I went to the Embankment Northern Line platform today to get to Euston, going home from my weekend in London. Even in 2021 they're STILL playing this, and I think that is so sweet. I feel like I witnessed a piece of history. 😊

I think they did it to sound less demanding. To sound like and ask and not a order. 😅

The announcement sounded old fashioned so they thought it had to go unfortunately. They didn't realise how many people loved that blast from the past (which in my view doesn't sound exactly as per the original, for a start there was a faint chime before the announcement originally).

No, it's not ridiculous Margaret......My DH passed in 2002 and somehow his voice that was on my answering machine disappeared (one of the kids accidentally erased it) and I would love to take some of the tapes (audio) I have and make some CD's.....maybe some day.
@MrWolfSnack Жыл бұрын
Whenenever my answering machine gets full I take my MiniDV video camera and record all the messages I want to save, before erasing the machine. The messages are all recorded onto tape then and are safe.

Oswald's announcement is famous now with tourists and I was annoyed when it was removed and replaced by a more supposedly pleasant sounding but characterless voice ... and saying please at the end. The reinstated version is not quite how I remember it, I'd like the original to be used which had a faint chime before him saying `Mind the Gap' and his voice didn't go up in tone at the end IIRC. I hope the true original recording hasn't been lost ! Also I believe that Oswald or someone sounding very similar used to say `Stand clear of the doors please' after `Mind the gap' on occasion.
