As a hockey fan and a double cancer survivor this is a joke. I’ve seen players get their fingers literally cut off by skates and sticks and not only finish the play but skate off the ice. This is just…embarrassing. I had my ankle literally split in half after tripping as a result of steroid induced osteoporosis and I moaned less than this. There’s a lot worse in the world that this. Kids in Gaza with their jaws blown off not even crying. Rolling around crying after spraining your ankle playing tennis. What a joke. In my wildest dreams the worse thing that’s happened to me is this. Disgraceful, over dramatic theatre.

That is a very tough way to end a match. As a Canadian, I hope she recovers as soon as possible. The way she reacted and that she had to taken off the court in a wheelchair was heartbreaking.

I could not believe this happened to her again. I was so thrilled that she was steadily building her game to the level it had been the year she won Indian Wells, Toronto, and USO. Simply devastating for her last night. I watched it happen. She had lost the first set after leading in the set. She had grabbed a break of serve at the top of the second set. Playing so well. ppl keep saying she’s just coming back from an injury, but wasn’t that injury 2+ yrs ago? She wasn’t seriously injured before; she just was burned-out & admitted lacking motivation to tour. That was odd for a 20-yr-old to already be tired of touring on WTA. I could see her not making an impact in tournaments again for 12 months or more; very possible w/ Bianca. I wouldn’t call her a fierce competitor

EVERY tennis player should use ankle strap protection. Zverev wouldn't have turned his ankle. Roger Federer wrapped his ankles before every match. Very common nowadays

I am very bummed I was right but I predicted that the deeper she went into the tournament, the more likely she will get injured. I am a bit injury prone myself and when you are afflicted with that condition it tends to happen the harder you push your body. She has been in some grueling matches and came out victorious. I really like her and think is great for the WTA. I was amazed when she won the U.S. Open years ago. I hope this injury doesn’t end her year but it looks pretty bad because she didn’t get injured falling or twisting. I predict a torn calf muscle or Achilles tendon. Hopefully, I am wrong,

It's so awful when you start racking up injuries in a sport like this. It often becomes a snowball because often times when you come back from one serious injury you end up compensating to protect it, because it's hard to mentally trust something is fully healed, and end up putting more pressure on another area, which leads to more injury.

I watched it over a few times at quarter speed and I can't really see where she rolled the ankle, she was just stepping off with her left foot to change direction. Something must have been ready to go wrong beforehand. I was watching the match when it happened, it was terrible to see and hear.

Bad foot-work may have contributed to the injury. I see this more and more as the sport gets faster and harder. Players of previous generations, in general, I think had better foot-work and perhaps were prone to less or less severe injuries. Also, I think, because of the game being faster and harder, the body takes even more of a pounding, so perhaps players need to keep their weight down even more than they used to.

@@dctrbrass Steffi Graf, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, etc., had great footwork and beautiful all-round racquet-stroke technique. By and large, I think most players, nowadays, don't have as good footwork and racquet-stroke technique as previous players. But, like I mentioned, that may very well be because of how faster and harder the game has become and this very likely contributes to more and more serious injuries.

I know this feeling... Its horrible... This happens when you have your ankle sprained before and the ligament is left stretched out so the brain can not determine the exact position of the foot correctly. This causes you to step just a little bit of balance and there you go, its twisted again... Happened to me many times and each time its getting worse than before...
