I was there…met John….introduced him to the mother of my eldest boy, who was in her 8th Month, with the words: he will be named “John” in your honour…..my love for John McLaughlin made me pursue the career of a guitarist, which I still am today. Much Love to John Ji….

And i'm so glad that even my absolute guitar hero can play a wrong chord 30.45 a minor instead of a major chord. This makes perfection human❤❤

Grand Master John Mclaughlin. And the usual genius musical cohorts bringing us technical passionate creative spontaneous wonder.
What a great time in McLaughlin's musical journey. I love this trio and the music they made. I've also collected many Trilok Gurtu releases.

OMG I saw this trio live too, before Dominique Di Piazza went to become a monk; best bass player ever I had seen live up to that point in time. [Edited to say thank you Bibi for sharing such treasure with the man + woman of culture in this world 😂 ]

I met him at NAMM in 2007 I think. He was representing some bass manufacturer. We chatted for a while and he told me how he went into mink hood ….he was out of it by the. The following year I met him at NAMM and he didn’t want to talk to me. Had similar experience with Allan holdsworth. By the way I’m met Kai Elkhart at a jazz club in Los Angeles and we chatted for a bit. Very nice person- I didn’t meet him again so I don’t know 😜

A lesson to be learned here - it’s always best to start on acoustic to see if you can get grips with it then if you make any progress you can then splash out and get an electric.
