I studied mathematics at university, and because of that exposure to the subject I know that my knowledge of higher mathematical ideas is tiny! His argument boils down to: Utopia can only exist when we get rid of the heathens. I don't even agree that free will could possibly exist in heaven, and I find the proposition of heaven and hell as a concept to be utterly paradoxical. I once asked my mother if she would be contempt in heaven when she finds out I'm burning in hell, she simply said: "there is no suffering in hell". . . I just walked away after that. Reflecting back, I think she was just trying to sell the notion of paradise to me. But its rather repugnant when my exact point was the opposite.

Speaking as someone who is also on the spectrum, I think Robert is autistic. He's hyper-focused on his own points to the point that he's unable to engage in meaningful dialogue about them. All he can do is reject the current conversational thread when he realizes he's hit a contradiction, and go back to parroting himself as if that explains it perfectly. He also takes every thought experiment you try to walk him through extremely literally. i.e., "That's Earth," instead of answering the more abstract question that was actually asked. My own "autistic superpower" is generally in being able to communicate with anyone but I'm not sure if Robert isn't a lost cause, at least on this topic.

@@derkaiser1306 It's prettt clear Hitler was actually theist, not anti-theist (and from the looks of it, not exactly Christian either). He definitely spoke about being a Christian, whether or not he believed it is under debate (academics don't think so). But too many of the things he reportedly said in private amount to him believing in some sort of creator, even if it's not necessarily the God of the Bible.
@hyronvalkinson17494 жыл бұрын
@@derkaiser1306 From one source: Not surprisingly, Hitler was much preoccupied with Christianity and the Catholic and Protestant churches in Germany. Weikart takes to task scholars, most notably Richard Steigmann-Gall, who, in part based on Hitler's early conciliatory tone toward the churches, concluded that Hitler was "a sincere Christian, at least until 1937" (p. 71). Weikart instead contends that "the evidence is preponderant against Hitler embracing any form of Christianity for most of his adult life" (p. 105). Aside from his vicious private condemnation of the churches and "Christianity with its meekness and flabbiness," a careful reading of Hitler's speeches that are often cited as proof of his Christian faith reveal such a distorted conception of Christianity that few would recognize it as such. Hitler endorsed a kind of Kampfchristentum (Christianity of the sword) that cast Jesus as "a pugnacious antiSemite" in order to persuade Christians to join in his persecution of Jews.

The foundations of morality are extremely simple. The religious, I suspect deliberately, over complicate it to create a problem for their imaginary friend to solve
@byebry6 жыл бұрын
I think it's more accurate to say the religious oversimplify the execution of morality - at least on the surface. They reduce morality to rules, but we all know that's not how it works. Very few theists actually think "thou shalt not lie" is a commandment that should always be adhered to.
@dougware56496 жыл бұрын
Yes, although the over complication comes in via the interpretation of scripture in order to justify virtually any otherwise unwholesome act. For instance, while it isn't an actual verse, one repeated theme seems to be to "win the lost at all costs" - which justifies the lies you mentioned, as well as far worse. Without theism, we might still have some forms of "the ends justify the means" thinking, but I doubt it would be as prevalent in our society as it is now.
