Great video! just wanna point out a few things 10:26 few hundred meters you mean :P whole stratis is like 4x5 km 10:35 btw, think the corporal tasked with arresting them is Kerry, who we play as during the main campaign xD 11:32 nope, over the next few HOURS, I didn't realise this either first time I played, but all of the events in "Survive" chapter from mckinnon's death to the attempt at taking Agia Marina happen within morning of July 7th and evening of July 8th, 2035 :P (if you check captions at start of each mission, drawdown 2035 is July 7th, 2035 at 05:50 and tipping point is July 8th 2035 19:10) that explains why the AAF still are in such disarray, otherwise it would be really hard to gain ground on them I think Something I love about the briefings and map is it allows you to really know what you need to do and plan your op if you pay attention, lots of people never really read the thing or look at the map and plan their movement then get lost half way, this also gives an extra importance to when plan goes to sht and you need to quickly form a new one while under fire (check Apex DLC campaign, must have that one, also, best played in coop) Another detail related to gunplay, bore offset is a thing in the game, bullets do come out from your barrel and not from your eyes, so when aiming at close quarters, you have to aim from a few cm to a whole head above the target in order to hit it (from red dot backups on top of magnifiers like the RCO in game), this also means you need to mind wether your weapon is over an obstacle or not, since while your sights might have a clear picture, your barrel might be facing a sandbag or something, also applies to right hand corners, you are really encouraged to sidestep left to peek those since you get a shoulder swap, which allows you to expose as little as possible while still able to return fire (arma 3 has an adjustable stance system, has total of 9 vertical stances and 3 horizontal variations for each main stance, check dslyecxi's guide on movement if you want more info, but this allows you to really change the ammount of body you expose during a firefight depending on the ammount of cover and concealement you got, somehow though not many people use this then wonder why were they shot behind cover not realising their whole torso was exposed) by default you adjust vertically with LCtrl + W / D and horizontally with Lctrl + A / D, can still lean from all the variations except from prone, where leaning has the roll effect, high prone you can't lean or roll, low prone you can't move at all except aim around 16:48 not greenbacks! brown hex cammo with alien looking helmets are CSAT (Canton protocol Strategic Alliance Treaty, a direct coutnerpart to NATO but from Eastern countries, mainly Iran and China) Dafuq, during "Signal Lost" you're supposed to be the prey, sneak past most of the enemy forces and link up with James, not massacre them all LMAO, but hey, whatever works haha Another detail that makes "adapt" great (also available in "survive" but not nearly as impactful or relevant) is that you can take a quad / offroad and explore the island on what's called "patrol", with sidequests and stuff, you can fill your vehicle with resources you find and can later equip your team better (in the briefing page, team, equipment) I spent a while doing those, found snipers, rangefinders and suppressors, which came real handy for the "breaking even" (think that's the one) mission, the one about assaulting an outpost for supplies, also plate carriers and medkits, which significantly increased my team's survival rate since they usually run on bare t-shirts or kevlar vests, not suited for milspec calibers Commanding AI is quite awkward and hard, but when done correctly it just works, can assign different teams to carry different tasks so you don't have to individually select each unit every time, for instance, in the ambush mission, you can do a nice L shape assigning machine gunner and a rifle man to stay on front, rest with you on flank, can also command from map, or that road cross at 24:22, can assign kouris and varga to team green, rest to team red, then command red to cross while green halts, then command red to halt and green to move / regroup and cross with you, think there's a mod to set up voice commands so you can do that more naturally without having to go through menus too if you wanna give that a go (NVM, just saw you found out about different teams later on the vid, typing as I watch xD) Think your team members also get better the more missions they survive? unsure on this one, but think that's the logic behind their ranks, skill and precision should increase the more you bring them back home, I do know that asides of the overall difficulty sliders each unit either friendly or hostile has its own slider that, along their gear, drastically changes how they behave (not the same to engage greenbacks than CSAT Spec Ops, even on same difficulty) Honestly, Arma 3 campaign gets a lot of hate, but I think it was a severely underrated great experience

@@BickleyLTO yeah, there's some lore videos around, but put shortly (recommend playing the DLCs including Tac-ops), NATO has been declining for the last few decades, with China-Iran led CSAT has been growing strength. Almost 10 years before the events on the main campaign, Altis falls into a sort of military dictatorship after a coup by Akhanteros (the same guy that confronts you when you try to arrest a soldier abusing a POW on the prologue), who rules with an iron fist, slamming every opposition, this evolves into a civil war, very brutal with massive loss of life, after the war, signs of a new revolting by guerrillas is starting to show up, which prompts international community to intervene, deploying US led NATO Peacekeepers (Taskforce Aegis), however, over time AAF and NATO grow distrust for each other, and eventually NATO decides to pull out from there, AAF shifting towards CSAT for aid, you can see this on the prologue, during and after the convoy mission peace talks between FIA and AAF were going to be taken at Altis MoD, with FIA supposedly breaking it by attempting an attack at the AAF, during the whole Conway-Akhanteros conflict you can see a few CSAT soldiers on the background, by the time campaign happens, only a small team of primarily non combat troops remain on ground, decommissioning NATO assets on Altis and Stratis Btw, something I forgot, while it's not as obvious as other games, supression does take a toll on enemy AI, they will try to find cover when fired upon, but most importantly, their accuracy will be severely degraded, the more volume and higher the caliber the bigger the effect, so it's good to always put a few rounds into the general direction of the incoming fire even if you don't really know where they are, many times forces them to move which makes them more visible, and at the very least reduces your chances of getting hit

If you ever get the chance to play with friends, try the ACE3 mod, either the normal one or Cobalt ACE + its associated mods. You won't regret it. Also, few notes as I watch (will edit as i watch): Kerry is the guy who drove you in the prologue. 16:44 those aren't AAF, those are CSAT-- a coalition between China and Iran. The ones in the East Wind campaign are Iranian.

One of the best videos covering the base SP campaign. I bought this game on sale for 8$ (!!!) a couple of years ago never suspecting that it would become my most played game in my life. Other games give you highly scripted Hollywood scenarios. Arma 3 gives you big dynamic worlds where you're never sure what's going to happen. Once you're done with this campaign: o Old Man from the Apex expansion is good o Forgotten Few 2 and Antistasi from the workshop will also give you very realistic gameplay with lots of opportunity to plan ops and use long term strategy. All of those are very solo friendly and take a ton of hours to finish.

By far my favorite military game. So far i have only played parts of East Wind and Old Man campaigns - and i love both those stories. The amount of mods for this game is INSANE (the "Dynamic Recon Ops" mods are probably my favorite)..! There are however a few things that make it less "simy", like: * The ability to bandage up after taking a shot to the leg, and then keep moving like nothing ever happened. I guess it makes it less frustrating to play, but it also means you dont really need to use the same tactics as you would IRL - and from what ive heard, Arma 3 was designed to train military personell. * To justify risking ones life, the risk to reward ratio should be proportional to the importance of everything else you could do in your entire life. Trying to minimize risk is important both for the current and future missions - as well as any personal reasons one has to live. As good as the missions are, they often seem to rush through enemy territory without using the same careful tactics that i would expect from highly trained military personell. Ive not been to the military, but to me it seems like a good idea to stop for a minute and scout the area when you find a good vantage point. * No jumping or climbing - so forget about getting over an obstacle that is anywhere near to chest height (there is a mod that allows you to climb over walls, but ive never tried this, and im not sure how good that works for climbing up on a boulder and stuff like that)

Great video! I hope to see the rest of the campaign. After this, you could probably play the Operation Flashpoint 1 / Arma: Cold War Crisis main campaign, which i find to be the best in the Arma series, as well as the first one (it would be interesting for you to see the comparison with its origins). Unless you want to play the rest of the mini-campaigns from DLCs that Arma 3 has to offer, which expand on the same conflict. About this main campaign in Arma 3, i gotta say i had a lot of problems with the AI and glitches from some missions. I used an AI mod and also had to find solutions for these glitches, in google, the Arma wiki, or in KZbin. For example, the last mission in the first chapter (the Stratis chapter) cannot be finished if your squad leader dies, because the scripts break. I had to replay the mission several times and use a lot of grenade launcher to make sure my leader doesn't die. If somebody has an issue with any mission, you can ask me, if i found a solution. 16:46 A little thing to notice, that took me a long time to understand: The "Greenbacks" would be the AAF, as you said in the prologue (marked in Green in the map), but at some point in the campaign, there's another faction that supports the AAF, which is the CSAT; kind of an enemy NATO, lead by China (marked in Red on the map). Those are the ones that you're looking at right there (with a different, brownish uniform). Basically, CSAT is the powerful force that gives all the big toys to the AAF, to use against NATO. On the opposite side, NATO and the FIA (the rebels) are both marked in Blue on the map. Just a little clarification that helped me. An interesting fact is that Conway, the protagonist of the prologue, that leads Alfa squad in the main campaign, can die at any point during any mission, permanently; not appearing ever again. (Although, little EARLY spoiler, it never shows again after the first chapter on Stratis, anyways).
@BickleyLTO

That's some great ideas - yeah later on I have more of a grasp on what CSAT is in relation to the AAF Not gonna lie it was pretty confusing in the beginning trying to keep up with everything going on
