It has been a roller coaster ride of emotions today. At least twice, I have broken down and cried. During the past few weeks, my stomach has churned with anxiety, then dropped into a black pit of despair. Seeing this lifelong public servant gallantly hand off his seat of power to his natural successor gave me hope. However, nothing is certain yet. I am deeply saddened to have to say goodbye to the most successful president of my lifetime. Considering the stakes, I will of course support Kamala and the Democratic Party.

By the way Alan, Biden did in fact make this decision with you in mind. He considered his health, which in fact is actually declining. I won't reveal any diagnostics but it's safe to say he could have still fulfilled his duties as president, but honestly, he shouldn't have to. Not because of agism, but rather he should be able to enjoy his time with his family, pass the torch and take care of his health, and know with certainty that the nation is in safe hands. He never wanted to do this if he didn't have to from the start. People forget that. He considered the pressure, not necessarily because of fellow Democrats or donors that were fearful, but because of very specific polls about Americans feeling that he should drop out in general. He felt, there were enough consistency that in a sense it was a second primary. He did take the contrast between him exiting versus Trump staying into account. Since 50% of the public wants him to drop out as well. He did in fact talk with others close to him, those who he actually respects: family and colleagues. Biden did not drop out of fear, or internal pressure. They basically put together a pros and cons list which centered around the 13 keys. Many Democrats in the house were doing it out of fear as well as donors, but ultimately he decided to do this because he wanted to maintain the contest key, and forged a plan together. And that plan you can probably guess what it is? He knows this historical decision at such a time will overshadow Trump's assassination-attempt boost, reverse the age narrative, set Kamala up for the debate, pitting a prosecutor against a criminal, which he knows she can prosecute a lot more clearly and easily than he can. He may even deliver the incumbency key, and it's in the back of his mind, so yes they are completely prepared based on historical election success. I give it maybe 25-50,%. So he's more likely to finish his whole term, but I figured it was still worth mentioning. They have real data and real solid logical positions. AOC helped tip the balance as well, by giving him the opening and exposing the spineless selfish reactors who had absolutely no plan in place if he did drop out. Oh and FYI Pelosi and Obama were not spineless when they discussed the issue. They had already been thinking the same thing we were. Joe wasn't happy at first, but he cooled down and considered who it was coming from and the reasoning. He realized it wasn't about him and that it actually was a very smart political move. AOC doesn't realize it, but she also just made history, and nobody will likely remember why or even how. But in 8 to 16 years, her time will come. So celebrate! They are now in a stronger position because of this decision, rather than weaker which is what everybody feared. And all the people afraid of the polls, you have to remember, Kamala can only go up from here. She's just starting, and hasn't really even campaigned significantly which many people haven't taken into account.

I think this is a good move. If Kamala takes over, that means she will only have one more term to serve. Chances would be better, according to the keys if she was encumbent, but if there is no political infighting over this then the dems will have a good chance of winning still. I heard it was internal polling that showed Biden was losing steam. Also the big $$$$ donors stopped giving to Biden. He had a $90 million loss. They boycotted Biden. And as a reminder, it's 5 reichwing fascists sitting on SCOTUS in 2010 that made this boycott more powerful. They decided, "Corporations are ppl and $$$$ = speech." President Harris will need strong blue majorities now to make her time successful and we have lots of work to do. Fascists want us to fight each other. We need to stop.
