Kenyans want their economy to grow and develop so as to create jobs and enable them to afford services and infrastructure without borrowing. We are drowning in debt, and that has made life very difficult. If the elevated relationship with the US will bring Western investments that will create jobs, then that's what Kenyans want. We are currently exporting unemployed young Kenyans to work abroad, including to barbaric places in the middle east where they get treated like slaves.

The fact is certain nations (primarily democratic) are turning away from Chinas BRI. Loans acquired through the BRI typically carry 2-3x the interest of WB/IMF loans. China was too aggressive.. It got far, politically, but not far enough. As a result both China and these nations have accrued so much debt, yet that very debt hasn’t helped in the Yuans dominance as a global currency. If anything, it’s backfired tremendously all the while domestic Chinese debt has ballooned even higher than what the national government has waisted in the past decade.
