Here is the process for resurfacing the spoil board on a Biesse Rover 24 with a 4' X 10' vacuum table. I use a 75mm surfacing tool. I will show you how to set the spoil board thickness and how to resurface it with one pass. In this video I show taking 2.5 mm off the spoil board.
In general I run bits only .002 below the bottom of material. Most times we can go months without having to resurface the spoil board. But in this case I had two issues. One is that I am training a person to write code and he set the tool depth too low. Also, I started cutting plastic (acrylic) with a 1/2" O-Flute bit and didn't have the tool holder set right.
Anyhow...it is a perfect opportunity to show you guys and gals how to resurface the spoil board!

Very useful videos, thank you. I have Biese Rover 27, and mostly of the time is working well but sometimes it shows some errors and they take me time to solve them. One of them is " Timeout stopped motor input (1, in 7 ). I think maybe this comes from the contactor behind because then I have to stop the machine and give a contactor a bit of touch with something. Thank you

I run into the "time out" errors when the spindle is performing a tool change but doesn't grab the second tool. We actually manually push up on the cradle bar to get it into position. I don't recommend it. We haven't had the problem since we replaced the spindle. And yes, contactors wear out. If there is one that continually gives you trouble, you might want to have an electrician replace it for you. Good luck!

Stupid question, but how do you measure the height of your surfacing tool? Our Biesse Rover A's tool touch off pad is too small to use and really close to the bed.
@thecrazycncguy7500
@thecrazycncguy7500 6 жыл бұрын
On the Rover 24 I measure each tool before I put it in the tool carousel. Our spindle uses an HSK 63 tool holder. With the tool tightly in the holder but out of the machine, I place it upside-down on a flat surface. I then measure from the teeth on the cutting tool to the bottom ridge on the HSK tool holder. I use a z-height / Electronic Height Gage like this one...www.amazon.com/dp/B007EMPCQ4/ref=sxbs_sxwds-stvp_2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=3341940462&pd_rd_wg=cYu6M&pf_rd_r=52BF0VM9CPV7TS0WRZ4R&pf_rd_s=desktop-sx-bottom-slot&pf_rd_t=301&pd_rd_i=B007EMPCQ4&pd_rd_w=gr4SV&pf_rd_i=z-height+caliper+measuring+tool&pd_rd_r=ecda6d02-7174-4ed7-b1a7-1a6b692fff46&ie=UTF8&qid=1516667133&sr=2

Then I manually set the tool height/length in the tool table. I hope this helps! As for setting the spoilboard thickness, I am unfamiliar with the Rover A. You'll have to look up Jig Thickness settings. Then reduce your jig thick ness by 1/4 mm and run the program. If the tool isn't cutting then repeat the reduction in Jig Thickness and rerun the program. Perform this cycle until the spoilboard is to your liking.

The Crazy CNC Guy hey yes it did! I don’t have one of those height tools so I’ve been using calipers and measuring in the same matter but I’ve been going off of the biggest measurement. I have been able to finally dial in the spoil board thickness to match what the machine thinks it is after surfacing. I might have to invest in that measuring tool for the future. Thank you very much. You would think bursar would have figured out a way to have an auto touch off for the surfacer like it does all other tools. My old omnitech could do it

What size is you Vacuum Pump? Also how fast (feed) do you usually run your spoilboard cutter
@thecrazycncguy7500
@thecrazycncguy7500 2 жыл бұрын
Our pump is under powered for the table - we should have two of them. It's a Becker 7hp with vanes. The fly-cutter runs 18,000 rpm at 800 ipm.

@@thecrazycncguy7500 funny since I asked the question I actually bought a second pump for our Rover j plast. It's a VTLF 225 so 7 hp. We still haven't been able to find 5x10 or 5x12 MDF for our spoil board material so we've been just brute-forcing it with low quality MDF. The second pump does make a big difference though.
