17:29 It was easier to just move the node in the left further, so the river bank wouldn't change the course of the river, rather than moving the river. 18:21 If you don't set the left lane to anything, cars won't use it. 18:40 You may as well change them from asymmetrical to good old two way roads. Awesome job! loving the city so far.

Great video Biffa. Have a look at the first roundabout built over the highway. You applied traffic manager before adding the 4 lane roads (6:26) and The ‘Hugothere’ lines don’t allow any highway traffic to turn into the farm area. That’s why there were issues with services, they can’t get in. Really enjoying the series.

*EDIT: If you move ahead in the video, that road ends up outputting into a roundabout with a single lane. (: I noticed this, too... specifically, it's the one-way output road for the Cargo Train Terminal in the farm area-- The right lane turns right, but the left lane has all lane arrows turned off. That might have been on purpose, though, to force the leaving trucks into one exit lane.

Love the new farm area…but, how about a nice oval-a-bout instead of the barbell-a-bout by the cargo terminal?
@kaltaron12843 жыл бұрын
I think that would need more space overall and possibly mess up the cargo terminal more than it's worth. What's more important IMHO, would be to check where the cargo terminal connects to and maybe change some of the train junctions. Some of them are just splits and not 3-way junctions so that may make use of the cargo termincal difficult.

Hydro for more power, that river/stream is too tempting unless it's not worth it. but surely there'd enough head if the river/stream was levelled into the mountain. And that four lane road in the last shot could do with some realigning to make it the main road to the highway and the original town center. Those power lines are redundant too if you're short on space while installing more factories. Maybe a warehouse district around the factories too unless the maintenance on duplicates is not enough to worry about all the jiggery-pokery
@jefffinkbonner95513 жыл бұрын
yeah otherwise that huge 4-lane road just dead ends, which just makes it seem excessive. It could definitely be optimized into a full thoroughfare

At 9:23 you can see that your roundabout "exit" dips down then goes back up - may as well keep it nice and flat as it leaves the circle and goes over the railway - seems silly to go down then back up when you can just have it stay raised.

Watching this while having a Saturday breakfast is prime time! Notes: 1) in the back of the new farm zone is an unused triangle between the railroad and the mountains. Perfect spot to move the train station, free up more farmland, and take some pressure off the “main” roundabout. Put it on a 1way loop and add a couple warehouses and you’re gold. 2) The new housing road in the farm needs a faster access to the main city. Just because people live in the sticks doesn’t mean they want to drive thru them all the time. A bridge from the nearest side of the loop and truck restrictions should keep major commercial traffic out.

Biffa, love the new area and what you've done with the old, but one thing that has been griping at me since you put down the original farm area is that main road that was disjointed and you never fixed. Right now it's doing some capillary action: going in, dispersing in between all those new factories, and then combining back in together. Wouldn't it be better to designate a main road and keep traffic that isn't destined for those factories out?

Biffa, you could (should) *still* connect your large industry arterial road - the one that used to "stop" at the farm - to the first neighbourhood you built along the water. Both roads have the same width, and it would make your traffic so much better! Now you have your emergency services clustered up there. Move them over slightly, and then people no longer feel they have to take the highway, but can go straight from home to work!
@SFCspoonman3 жыл бұрын
One thing you can do to improve traffic is to set spawn/despawn points for your warehouses/farms/businesses a little bit further off the road so traffic can pass when loading/unloading cargo. Then apply that to all of the same type buildings.

The small fields are more efficient. I try to set up the processing plants down stream from the fields to reduce traffic and try to avoid storage as the buildings have some storage already. So I put 2 small fields, a flour mill, and a bakery on one small road. For the big factories that take in multiple products like paper, steel, plastic... I put right next to train stations.

About your farm area, I like to use the roads with the solid median. Reason is that it stops trafic from cutting each other. They have to go around and it tend to move much better. Also, I think you should allow two turning lanes when getting to the round about (you deleted the left lane turning left, just put it back to turn right, would help a bit with the backing of traffic there. Awesome job on the far area tho. Oh yeah almost forgot... I like putting services (especially police and garbage) behind the main industry building in a cul-de-sac. That way they have no choice in passing in front of the main building both when heading out but also when coming back in. For some reason the game likes ignoring main industry buildings, but with this trick, they have no choice... ;-)

@looniebinn3 жыл бұрын
30:23 I would add a 1 lane 1 way road from the dirt road by all the crops to that main road. (the dirt road further from the roundabout) Forcing them all through that roundabout has been causing a lot of traffic to back up, when most of those trucks simply want to get to that main road. Just a suggestion!
@davidtrescuri6283 жыл бұрын
Oh man, I love and hate the new farm. Love it because in game turns it's going to work well AND it makes sense for it to have been moved. I hate it though because it's so industrialised. I usually split my farm and forestry areas to keep the more industrial buildings (factories, warehouses, paper and flour mills) closer to my actual industrial areas. I just think it makes those areas feel more real and also frees up fertile land/forest for resource gathering. Personal preference aside, you did a great job, as always. I see a missed opportunity though: The barracks should have been placed around the loop beyond the farm house. Include them in a small little village build so as the city envelopes the area around the farm there's a quiet little place nestled between the farm, the mountains and the river. The village could also have been home to services for the farm.
@davidnoiles22213 жыл бұрын
On the one way roads that only turn right in the farming zone I'd recommend if it gets extremely busy putting in a timed traffic light that allows constant traffic flow off of the round about but also moderates the amount of traffic flow into the round about.

12:35 - As soon as you mentioned the housing being where ti will my hopes for little river island park that I suggested on another video soared. 18:20 - If there's nowhere to turn on those roads are they not as well as being one lane roads? 30:00 - You don't seem to have a ton of traffic coming in at the junction so you could maybe squeeze some more fields to make crops up on the main road coming in next tot he rubbish collection.
