Big Bear Eagles ~ The Great Fish Debacle; 3 Way Standoff Simba Jackie & Shadow!

Jackie flies in with a big fish (carp) and Simba grabs it and squees to be fed. She starts to feed him when Shadow flies in to the right branch and he is vocal!! He has his eye on the fish, Jackie has her eye on him and is whining and Simba is squeeing up a storm. He comes to the nest at 6:41 and flies over Jackie and takes the fish! Jackie is upset and Simba is squeeing - a 3 way standoff! Jackie takes the fish and Shadow reaches for it but she nips at him lol
Shadow goes to the front of the nest & sees a small piece of fish and eats it then he tries to get the fish from Jackie again....she nips at him! My fish! Simba is crying for the fish & Shadow understands he is not going to eat it and leaves to the left branch. Jackie calms down finally and Simba begs to be fed but she doesn't feed him. So what does Simba do now? Simba puts on his big boy pants and starts to self feed and stands on the fish and begins to pull successfully! He just didn't want to work to feed himself! When he was finished he came to the center of the nest and took a nap! Thank you for watching!

Shadow is a practical Dad. He sees a nice fish on the nest and nobody is touching it. That doesn’t make sense so he goes for it. Little did he know that he was stepping into Jackie’s teaching moments! The good ending is that Simba got the message and got into self feeding. That was very entertaining 😀 Lady Hawk.

I see Jackie's in GROW UP MODE with Simbas self feeding. Simba is SUPER SPOILED wanting to be FED, which Shadow(Great Dad) fell for, Jackie (Super Mom) not having it says "YOU LEAVE and YOU FEED YOURSELF" and THAT'S the plan

Looks like mama let daddy know who's fish that was. Simba being the smart little fellow that he is just remained calm until the coast was clear and then took over. In the mean time Shadow just kind of scooted to the side and I guess took off to get his own meal.

Simba is quite a character, these videos are from before my time finding Jackie and Shadow. YOu can really see a lot of Jackie in Simba, the screeching etc. He is a cutie. This was an epic fish battle for sure.

I really believe Shadow's intention was to feed Simba. Not that he would have taken a few bites for himself. All he knew was that Simba was crying for food so he just jumped in to do the job. He is such a wonderful Father, he just doesn't realize that it is time for Simba to start feeding himself. 🦅❤🦅

I just recently came upon this channel and my friend and I are totally enthralled. This is amazing. Question from city dwellers who know nothing about any form of wild-life that exists outside our local bar: Are mom and pop hoarding at the expense of baby because of a lack of fish? Is what we are watching normal behaviour among eagles? Also, when do eagles go bald? And is that a little baby eagle we see under the teenage eagle? Questions abound.

Lady Hawk I never received a response regarding why Jackie wasn’t comforting Cookie as he was dying. And instead she took off from the nest? He look like he was constantly looking around for her or his dad. And only Simba was at his side. I know it doesn’t matter now, but I was just very curious.

2:15 sort of picky about his food but mom says oh no we don't waste our food even the parts we don't especially like. Good training mom. 4:00 Simba still wants only choice cuts refusing to eat fins, scales & skin. Wonder who is going to win this one. Send him for PB & J if he doesn't like what we are having or else do w/o. Everyone wld like to have the chicken breast but there is only one on each chicken. And another thing SO MANY STICKS, Is this to make home uncomfortable? Smart Jackie if he self feeds he can pick the best parts first. As I recall Jackie wld eat the buzzard parts herself giving the choice parts to the chicks but smart Simba caught on right away.

Hi Susie , Cookie passed away on 5.27.19 after a few days of very cold temps, freezing rain and snow. He succumbed to hypothermia and died early in the morning. It was very sad to see him pass away. RIP sweet Cookie.

Don´t know exactly why but Simba doesn´t look like a perfectly normal and healthy eaglet to me. He is not as assertive as other eaglets in his age. His bites are tiny, he doesn´t stand on his feet too long and he doesn´t flap his wings often. I hope I´m wrong and this is just a wrong impression.

That appears to be the problem. Jackie wants Simba to learn how to self-feed. Shadow does not get that, as he continues to feed Simba himself.

This is so funny, and thanks so much for making a video of the 3-way power struggle! I saw this live and loved the part where Shadow was planning his jump over Jackie, she knew it and gave him the evil eye, and then BAM! Shadow does it anyway. Simba is getting better at self feeding and not being so picky, isn't he?

Hi Pamela - You are welcome! Yes Simba is getting better each day at self feeding and since he is now feeling better he is not very picky at all. In fact I think he had some intestinal upset for a couple of weeks that is why he did not eat much and was vomiting. Now he eats till full each day and is gaining a lot of strength!

@@ladyhawk, Stupid me, I didn't think Eagles would have that sort of thing. Both Eagles and Osprey, (probably all birds of prey), have some pretty strong stomach acids. I thought they could eat just about anything. I had noticed him vomiting and was terrified that he wasn't getting enough nourishment to fend off any sickness that was flying about. When he did start to eat I was relieved. So glad to see him doing better. Thanks for the video !! 🦅❤🦅

There is no need to go up to the nest and risk Simba jumping and possibly injuring himself. Eaglets die on nests frequently and they become part of the nest, sometimes they are consumed or even removed from the nest by the parent. Here Cookie's remains look like they will stay - they will eventually bury him with sticks.
