When I go crabbing I always bring a fishing pole and my castnet. I throw a handline or two near where I am fishing and use that to tell how active the crabs are. Not unusual for me to come home with a couple dozen crabs, some shrimp and a few slot reds and specks. That is enough seafood to hold me for a few weeks then I go back and do it again. That to me is the most fun I can have with my clothes on.

Hey Tony! Thanks for posting this great crabbing video. It puts a smile on my face when I wake up after the weekend and see you've shared a crabbing trip with us. I'm really happy you got all those nice big ones. I especially appreciate that you give us close ups of the crabs. That's what I love to see, especially the ones that feisty enough to snap at you. You've got to admit they have a lot of spirit for such little creatures. What a beautiful day. The sky was so blue. Here in the PNW we have been having beautiful skies too but morning temps around 28 lately. But it warms up by afternoon. I'm getting anxious to go to the beach again and catch some Dungeness and maybe some red rock crabbies too. Have a wonderful week, Tony!

I am over in Northwest Florida and in January and February have caught crabs from bridges that span deeper water from eight to fourteen feet . They are the best tasting crabs of the year. Coldest water temp I have measured while crabbing was 54 degrees, crabs were sluggish but still hungry enough to go after the chicken. I still catch some in shallow, muddy areas in winter, but most move out between eight to fourteen ft. Thats where you find the mother lode.

Hey do you know if legally I could use those same baskets with a buoy instead of a crab trap?

@@CrabbingWithTony yeah not overnight, but maybe go on a run and leave 10 every 100 feett.. And by the time u put the last one, the first one might have crabs? I was just wondering about the legality of it.
