I also got Ordinary Grace and Shadow of the Wind with my Christmas gift card!!! Both of them sound so good, and I definitely expect to enjoy them.

I’m so excited (and also a little nervous) to hear your thoughts on Ordinary Grace and We Begin at the End! I read both We Begin at the End and All the Colors of the Dark last year making Chris Whitaker an autobuy author for me.

That 7 1/2 Deaths book sounds interesting. Never heard of it before, so thanks for putting it on my radar. Looks like you have a good variety of books there. Happy reading, Tori.

I thought it sounded interesting too! I wanted a sort of Clue Game experience in a book, so that's what I'm hoping for.

I'm excited for you to start reading some GGK, Tori! I think he'll be one of your favorite authors of the year. His books were one of the bright spots for me in 2024. I haven't read The Sarantine Mosaic or Lions yet so maybe I'll sync one of those when you read them if I have room. Sorry, I didn't accidentally order a second volume of A Time of Dragons Vol 2, but if you need help getting a copy of that, let me know! - Cheers. 🤘🏼
@ToriTalks221 сағат бұрын
I have high hopes for GGK! Let me know if you want to buddy read Lions when I get that far, that would be fun. I can't believe you didn't accidentally order TWO books. XD No worries, I'll get a hold of it at some point. Right now I'm just enjoying having such a pretty book on my shelves. :)
@marcweber850922 сағат бұрын
Problem of every reader (myself included): you commit to reading the books on your shelf and then you do a massive book haul 😂
@ToriTalks221 сағат бұрын
Haha it's a problem! I'm actually doing pretty well with the purchasing so far though compared to the last couple of years. Excited to get through some of my collection this year!

@@ToriTalks2 Well at least you read double of what I do 😂 I'm looking forward to you reading the rest of Malazan finally for the first time!

@ me too! I’m so excited for that this year. I’m having a great time with Memories of Ice right now.

Awesome haul Tori! Glad you’re getting more into mysteries and thrillers. 😊

Shadow of the Wind is another one of those books with a very loose plot, but extra wonderful for us character readers! I suspect you're really going to love it. 7 1/2 Deaths of EC is definitely a mind trip of a book, and I absolutely loved it back when I first read it--I'm not sure if I would now, but as kind of an entry into mystery/thriller it is such a fun ride! You've got some great books in this haul, enjoy! ^-^

Wow, the Ascendant book is gorgeous! 😍 I was lucky enough to beta read Blood Brothers Beyond and I think you will love it!

Nice Haul! I read my first William Kent Krueger books last year and enjoyed it. I want to get into his series this year. I recently picked up The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan and A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L Jensen. New authors for me!
@PreacherReads22 сағат бұрын
7 1/2 Deaths is so good! You can tell it’s an early writing of his, it’s far from perfect and a little janky at times but man the story and the world and the unique nature of it covers all those issues. Ordinary Grace is an all timer. I also want to read some of his series this year!

Anna Karenina is amazing, and I’ve only heard the highest praise for Bartlett’s translation. (I read the Pevear & Volokhonsky in 2013, before Bartlett’s came out). I started Lions of Al-Rassan a couple weeks ago but some library books came in and I’m focused on them for now :) Happy reading!
@ToriTalks221 сағат бұрын
Happy reading to you too! I've also heard great things about that translation, so here's hoping it's a great read.

I've got The Lions of Al-Rassan and The Shadow of the Wind on my tbr this year! I've come across a good amount of people like me who'll be getting into GGK with that book.
@ToriTalks221 сағат бұрын
Nice! Yeah, I've heard from a lot of people that Lions is a great entry point to GGK's work. I hope you enjoy both of them!

I hope your friends write inscriptions on the books they send you Tori😊 That's the best part of getting bookish gifts imho

🧱 Gifen that I too have read Pickering’s “Heliotrope”, I knew precisely what you mean about that stone mosaics experience. So this much enhances my interest in your “Lord of Emperors” despite being utterly unfamiliar with GGK…
@ToriTalks220 сағат бұрын
That description of the mosaic still lives rent free in my mind! It was so beautiful. I'm curious about the Sarantine Mosaic too, we'll see how we feel about it!

The Shadow of the Wind, Ordinary Grace, and the 7.5 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle were all great reads for me last year! Hope you enjoy them too. Side note, We Were Soldiers Once is not fiction. My daughter bought me a beautiful special edition of The Secret Garden for Christmas 🥰 Have a great week!
@ToriTalks221 сағат бұрын
Oh thanks for the catch! I think I knew that but fiction was on my brain XD Either way, I'm really looking forward to it. I'm glad you enjoyed those three, that's great to hear. Enjoy that special edition, I bet it's beautiful!

Awesome book haul!! I’ve got a question, I’m trying to pickup the Malazan series in paperback like the size that you showed in the video. I’ve got Deadhouse Gates in the normal paperback with the flames on the cover then I found the bigger paperback with a different cover. Would you happen to know where I could purchase the bigger paperbacks from? I’ve looked on Amazon and I can’t find them there or anywhere else.
@mattkean112813 сағат бұрын
I just picked up I'm Afraid You've Got Dragons by Peter S. Beagle and Glorious Exploits by Ferdia Lennon. I made a list a while back of some westerns or antiwesterns I want to read someday in addition to True Grit: News of the World by Paulette Jiles Warlock by Oakley Hall West by Carys Davies The Outlander by Gil Adamson The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner Days Without End: A Novel by Sebastian Barry The Son by Philipp Meyer In the Distance by Hernan Diaz Little Big Man by Thomas Berger
@stevenstewart78219 сағат бұрын
True grit was adapted into a John Wayne movie
@ToriTalks214 сағат бұрын
Yes! I haven’t seen either of the adaptations yet.

So this might come out wrong, but as a reviewer what steps did you take for indie authors to send you their books to read/review? Do you specifically request copies or do they send them your way in case you’re interested? (I’m pretty new to BookTube and that part of things has always been a mystery to me, although God knows my to read list is long enough)
@loralubimaia278316 сағат бұрын
Just a preference don't hurt me but I had Ascendant on my tbr until I learned that the series has a gay sub plot and I'm just not into that.
@ToriTalks214 сағат бұрын
I don’t ever hurt people for having different preferences lol. Not every book will be for every person. 💜
