Samee. My natural hair refuseddd to grow past neck length, and I couldn’t differentiate between my split ends and normal strands. I thought it’d be a good idea to just relax it but now I hate it even more. I’m planning on just stretching my relaxer for 2 months and then just chopping off everythingggg besides the new growth. Like tbh I’m excited to start new.

I see a lot of comments talking about protein treatments & etc.... That's a good idea but once you compromise the bond in the hair shaft that makes the hair curly then there's nothing you can do to get that curl back damage is what it sounds like damage & unfortunately for hair once it's dead its dead there's no coming back I'm in no means saying shave your head just have real expectations also don't over do it with the protein treatments it'll just make your hair brittle. With that being said relaxed hair can flourish just cause your hair is chemically treated doesn't mean it's damaged let's uplift these ladies also. Ps heat is not the enemy lack of knowledge is

I have 4c hair and I had some almost straight pieces of heat damage I never did protein treatments but after about 1.5-2 years of taking care of my hair those straight pieces reverted to like a 3c/4a curl pattern granted that wasn’t my curl pattern but it did get curly and also my hair wasn’t damaged from years of heat it was just the one time I fried it

I’m sure if it was heat damaged hair it probably broke off within 1-2 years so it most likely wasn’t the same damaged hair. Damaged hair breaks but your hair constantly grows so it may seem like the same hair but it’s not.

I remember doing this to my hair last year and I don’t regret it at. Even tho I went through my awkward length stage, it was sooo worth it. One thing I had to learn is that hair growth products DONT make you hair grow any faster than it already does it just helps retain length. Really nothing helps your hair grow fast it’s just about taking care of those ends so they don’t break. Keep up with the journey! Even try no heat for like year the results will be amazing.

I just did the big chip today … 5 inches… sometimes you just got to do it. I had grown my hair for the past 3 years and decided I wanted to start straightening it, it took me only a few months to damage my hair so bad that my split ends had split ends. Heat is the worse thing for our hair!!!

Girlll😩! My hair was just like thissss😩. I got depressed. I tried to grow it out 2 months I cutter my hair my self just like this. But there were more heat damaged an I hate it sooo much. An the front of my hair ws the part that damaged the mosttttt I got even more depressed 😭. So I tried to grow it out more till months after I made my mom carry me to a professional hair stylist. And they cut all off my hair😩. It’s was so short an now I’m 1 year and a month from my big my chop😌. My hair really grew a lot but I still have a little more of heat damage. I’m just gonna grow it out more an then cut it again🙂

I’m so so happy for you. I love seeing people go natural. Majority of your hair looks good and this is only the start! Those front pieces can easily be disguised by doing a twist out or using curling rods and once your hair grows more, you can go back in and trim them. Wishing you the best on your natural hair journey

See my problem is my hair stays curly even w the damage. So I have no idea WHERE the cut is going to be or where the length is going to end. My hair is already way shorter than yours. I think I killed my hair and ruined the scalp by over dyeing my hair a few months back. With my thin hair and super round face, I will look like a boy if I cut it too short…..

What I don't understand is my mom use to hot comb my hair when I was a little girl. There was no heat damage whatsoever. At 31 I straighten my hair with a flat iron and it damages my hair. I'm going to transition my hair for several months before cutting it. I don't want too short of a big chop.

omg i wish i saw this video when i chopped my damaged hair off! i had been straightening my hair for years, since like elementary school and by the time i got into 8th/9th grade the heat damage was unreal. i had been trying to transition and get some of my curls back over the past few months but it was just so frustrating having to do that everyday and i was literally addicted to straightening my hair so i finally got rid of most of the damage. i still have a few pieces in the front that are kinda wavy instead of my tight curls but i know with time my hair will be where i want it!

I transitioned to curly hair kinda slowly. I would cut off what I could to still let the cut look nice. My bangs were so straight and heat damaged. I didn't wanna just fully cut them off, so i ended up just doing a curly perm to some of the front pieces so it would match the rest. It worked for me.
