It’s a true shame that ‘Heart and Soul’ missed out on the opportunity of being released as the band’s second single. The song has a unique sound and is gifted with lyrics of astonishing poetic beauty. This rare version further embellishes these features. Thank you for sharing this as I'd been trying to find this for years. My favourite Big Country song ever. I was 6 when 1st heard this way back in 1983 & it blew my mind. I'd never heard anything like this in my short life & I'd already been brought up on a heavy diet of Quo, Sabbath, Skynyrd by this point. When I finally got the red CD version of The Crossing I was so pissed off that it wasn't the full version I knew of this amazing track. I really wish it was easier to get hold of as the singles collection vol 1 ain't cheap.

If it helps, there is one other CD this full version has appeared on, the 1997 Big Country Master Series release. Have a search, they’re out there and not very expensive. Thanks for commenting, I love this song too, one of my all time BC tracks.

For years, I thought this was the one and only version until I started hearing the shorter ones. It was the version contained on the Canadian six track Wonderland EP, and it was the first I ever heard. Which other releases have this version? The version of All Fall Together from the same EP is also the definitive version for me, better than all the ones commonly found on compilations or on KZbin.

Tom Hiya mate, this full version was on the Red sleeve limited edition UK 12” of IABC as well as the Japanese Wonderland mini LP and the singles collection box set volume 1, so not many releases at all. Every other compilation included the edit, hence the necessity for this upload because a lot of fans may have been unaware of its existence.

@@BC1000Stars I may have the Japanese Wonderland mini LP too -- need to check that out. Do you know if the other mix of "All Fall Together" is available on CD? The only ones on KZbin are the one from Rarities.

Tom having recently researched All Fall Together (an upcoming thread on the Through A Big Country FB group) I can tell you there are two distinct versions of the song, although other differences can be mistaken for mastering quality. The version on RN&R is the same as the one recently put on the Steeltown 30th CD, all the other versions out there (Sometimes A Great Notion compilation, the mini LPs etc) are a different version, and the one listed as the “demo” version. I'll tag you in the thread when I manage to get it posted. 🙂

Short answer to your question, the compilation 'Sometimes A Great Notion' (CD and LP) has the mix you’re after. Maybe I need to upload this version to the channel.

BC1000stars Okay, then I'm definitely thinking of the mini LP version. I'm surprised it would be classified as a demo version, however, as the vocals sound identical to me. It's the mix that's different. Maybe that doesn't count as a different version as much as a different mix. Once you upload it, I will know if it's the one in my head. It must be.
