So blessed to have come of age in the 80's. Everyone was so excited to just be alive and the music reflected it.
@alanstrom22212 жыл бұрын
That's right, we were very excited to be alive. The 80's is the best and greatest decade in the history of the Universe. The underlying subconscious factor was the constant fear of Nuclear War. "We'd better have a good time right now, because each minute could be our last " We had three evil monsters with their fingers hovering above the button. Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher and George H W Bush. Extreme Right-Wing monsters. So what we needed was great music and vibrant, colourful clothing to disguise our constant fear. The decade of excess and greed brought about the most sickening economic depression of the early 90's. This plunged the Western world into a decade of darkness. Grunge with it's flanno shirts and introspective lyrics creating deep sadness and Rap n Hip Hop with its racist and misogynistic lyrics. The World and the music has never recovered. Captains of Industry telling the public what they have to like. Manufactured, generic 'music' All the singers and artists sound the same. Sterilised and homogenised 'people' The complete opposite to PUNK n NEW WAVE. The Planet was at its Zenith then. Historians will look back at the mid-late 1970's and the 1980's as the pinnacle of human art n culture. I was born in 1961, I saw and heard it all.

I've only heard the opposite of that on many occasions. Even from Millennials. A truly remarkable decade for music. Bands that were overshadowed because of the sheer amount of musical talent would shine in todays barren landscape.

As a millennial, I can 100% cast iron guarantee that 'your music' was infinitely better. How do you think we all got our music tastes. The reason for all the contemporary shite is parents not passing on their love in the form of music to their children.

This song is based on the outlaw Harry Tracy. The first part of the song is about being on the run from the law. Harry Tracy killed 11 or more men and eventually committed suicide to avoid being done in by the authorities. "I never meant to kill a man" alludes to how Harry was playing cards with a man when a fight over cheating broke out, and the other man's gun discharged, and hit him, killing him. Harry protested his innocence in the silent film I watched on the topic called "Tracy The Outlaw". "Look away, look away From the lies in the stories that were told" alludes to the stories that were written in the press at the time that were untrue such as him raping, and killing his school house teacher as a child. "Look away, look away From the love that I hide way down deep in my soul" alludes to his wife who was the sister of fellow outlaw David Merrill. He escaped from prison to track her down. He knew he was an outlaw, and was never going to be allowed to live happy with his love. All of this of course was very relatable to Stuart Adamson. He didn't like touring life, or the business side of music. He also had to deal with press that was not often favorable to him. He wanted to be with his family, but knew that he could not. His first marriage ended in divorce, and surely he felt his music career was a big part of his family not being successful in this regard. He went missing on the day that his second wife filed for divorce. He ultimately chose to end his life the same way that Harry Tracy did - suicide :-(
