🐵 *NOTE TO VIEWERS* 🐵 One way to support Kyle, and the Vervet Monkey Foundation, is to support this channel! You can do this by.. 🐒Watching ads(or just letting them play, while you go get a drink), if an ad is over a minute long, please be sure to watch at least 30 seconds! Clicking on an occasional ad also helps! 🐒Heading into their off-season, we can also show our support (while getting your baby Vervet fix)by going back and watching older videos. Each and every full video watched, helps, and the more we watch, the better, they do! 🐒Help the channel grow, and earn valuable funds to help prepare for the next season of babies, by *LIKING* and *SHARING* every chance you get. They are on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. 🐒Lastly, if you have some spare time, try re-watching some videos, you've already seen, or sharing them with a child. It's a great way to entertain a budding Primatologist, when taking a short break from summer fun.

Kyle, I would like to know if the babies outgrow their Moms and go off on their own, or do they all just always stay together? Also when the new baby season starts do these same Moms get new babies or do you have to round up new Moms?

For some reason, I think the past orphan monkeys like Mokey must have extra compassion when they become a foster mom. It's like a dog who was rescued from a shelter and turns out to be the best hearted dog. Thanks Kyle for another video that enriches my heart 🤗

Yeah, I've always been curious how many other primates this sort of process would work with. I think the fact that their social structure is a matriarchy really helps that fact. It creates an environment of nurture and compassion towards any individual who can join the family and help build the troop and status of an individual. Selfish yet altruistic motivation, much like many of our human actions.

Also, it would be great to see the area where the sanctuary sits... the surrounding terrain, geography, history/maps of the area, culture of the inhabitants, what they think of the sanctuary... Just my 2cents. 😆 Thank you for filming this and doing this. Hugs to you and I'll stay tuned for Thursdays 😊👍 🍃🌹🍃

I get the feeling that Kobe is going to be _quite_ the interesting and dominant male, when he grows up! Kudos to that lovely couple for their compassion in picking up Dumbo from the side of the road and bringing him to you. Glad to see all the babies getting successfully integrated to their troops too. Really... _really_ ...going to miss this series! I find myself simultaneously wishing for more, yet the "foster mom" in me also always wishes that there would be no need..I'm sure you know what I mean by that. Perhaps, after taking some well-deserved time to breathe a little and relax after all your hard work, you could do some episodes about the people there? The nuts-n-bolts of the place? And, off course, always more on the bandit troops. Absolutely love you guys! 🐒❤️❤️

As usual I loved every second! And as usual, I have lots to say! Based on first impressions, Dumbo may very well take the lead on my favorites list, over Mo. As much as I know you all deserve some much needed "down time" to prepare for the next baby season, and may even get a chance to go home, or on vacation, I can say, I was almost in tears when you announced nearing the end of the season. Thankfully, theres lots of videos to re-watch!

Hi, having been lucky enough to spend 3 weeks at the VMF, I’m loving these video reminders of what a special time it was. My suggestion for a “non-baby season video” is one on what other work volunteers do while there, both the long term and short stay volunteers. Some of it was hard work but really rewarding and I loved it all (well, maybe not uprooting lantana bushes 😩). Everything the volunteers do there helps you provide all the services you do, it’s not just all minding the babies. I really enjoyed my walks around Top Section filling up the water bowls and giving grass to the non-troop monkeys, got to know all their personalities and it was energising walking around the lovely property. Keep up the great work ❤️🐒

Awww!! I’m going to miss my fix for a while. Once again Amazing work Kyle and I still haven’t forgot my promise about fundraising for this most needed organization! I do have one question however, Has any of the foster mom’s ever given up on the babies, after taking them under their wing so to speak?❣️🇨🇦
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
:) Thank you. Yes and no. I wouldn't say the moms give up on babies but things change, sometimes moms trade, sometimes a baby wants a different mom or outgrows a mom, all sorts of things happen, but its never a big deal because once the monkeys are out in the troop the troop is their family, so they find their place with or without the same mom who brought them into the troop.

To anyone who hasn't donated, I encourage you to do so. I sent $20 last month through paypal, and again this month. That isn't a lot of money, but those small donations add up. I was nervous about paypal, but there weren't extra fees or any complications, they have greatly improved their services. This video has been great, and I do look forward to the next baby season, but you could easily do a video on a different baby each week, and I know your viewers would enjoy watching them grow and trying to continue to be able to recognize them, ha ha. I'd personally love to know more about the staff and volunteers, and what it's like to travel there. I watch the weather on my phone of my town, and your location, as well, and it's neat to see the differences in humidity and temperature. As for questions, I had one that I didn't see answered yet, when you bring in a new baby, does a staff member sleep in the baby cabin overnight with them?
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! Yes staff members either sleep in the baby cabin with the baby (babies in a small sleep crate with blankets) or they take the baby to their own cabin.

Great video, as always! I’m sad to think that this season is almost over but I’m excited to see what’s to come in the future. :-) This week I am full of questions..... 1. How and where do the monkeys sleep when out in the troop? I always assumed that the babies and mamas snuggled together in a tree overnight but the fact that some babies are released without a dedicated foster mom made me wonder about my assumption. 2. How could you tell that Dumbo was concussed? He did seem a bit lethargic at first and I saw the black eye. I just was wondering what signs the babies give off of having brain trauma. 3. Conjo did not seem to want to be more than a foot away from Hazel and that (in addition to poor Timmy getting lost) made me wonder if you ever have babies who get too scared to go to the feeding cages once out in the troop? Are they somehow monitored for a few days to make sure that they are making trips to get their milk fix? Thanks for all that you do!
@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
1. All the monkeys sleep up in the trees together, even if they have no official mom they have friends and family. 2. Same way u test for a human concussion, cognitive assessment and pupils reaction to light and following objects. 3. Usually the babies aren’t too scared, they get thirsty and they want to go, it’s the moms who get over protective. But yes, we monitor the troop for about a week after each release to make sure the babies are doing fine.

Omigosh Kyle at first I thought you were saying there would be no new videos at all till next baby season. I darn near had heart failure ;). While I do enjoy the babies and their adoption stories, any other vervet stories are fun too. I suppose we could endure until the new season ;). Jk, am loving the bandit stories too. Laughed pretty hard at the juveniles breaking the pipes to get a drink of water. Although the idea of next year's babies being orphaned is very sad, at the same time, am looking forward to meeting the next batch of babies and seeing who will adopt them. Love and peace. Aww...Dumbo at beginning of video looked so sad. Next Vervet with big ears like that you could name Clark Gable.Did you know that in a film where Clark Gable was playing a WW I fighter pilot they had a problem. Gable was flying in an open cockpit Bi-Plane and whenever he turned his head left or right his huge ears would act like a rudder and pull the plane in the direction he was facing. They had to tape his ears back to stabilize the flight of the plane.

Every single time I see the adult females come in to see the babies like they're actively looking to adopt, I just get overwhelmed the vervets seem to understand this whole fostering environment you've set up for them, and to 'get' that these rooms are specifically here to house children for them to take home. Are the moms spayed, or is there some reason they reliably don't have children of their own?

I think an episode on what daily life is like for the volunteers and staff. I know there is an older video on this channel that kinda goes over those things but it is short. @VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
I don't think I'll be doing a series about the babies life in the troop. It would take forever because of the fact that the changes really take months and years to evolve and I'd have to be out there every day all day with more than one camera filming and following just to see what happens and really study the behaviors and things. Plus it would be near impossible to follow the lives of every baby in the troops, its just too many and I'm only one person. But I do plan on putting out some video updates about the babies from this past baby season.

Although I am a whole season off here, as I know you well into season 2 and I am just picking up back versions - and you were sort of asking what we would be interested in and I think that 'what happens between baby seasons might be an interesting topic. I know some sanctuaries actually don't really shut down and while they may no longer be knee deep in babies often between times does see other rehabs come in - such as much older monkeys that are no longer good house pets, those that need nursing after road accidents or illnesses - they may not be babies but they are going to need some techniques to get back to the wild and its not always the case that you can find the troupe they come from and have to integrate into ones you have. What about the bild/disabled troupe who surely have some amazing off baby season stories of achievements and coping. What else goes on? Rehabbing enclosures? Training? Outreach? not easy to meet the staff when everyone is busy with a baby or babies and trying to organize the setups of foster families, but maybe as baby pressure lessons it would be fun to find out who is behind so many of those laps we see babies growling about in. Other things that would be interesting would be to see what the world is like in your part of the world, what is the community all about and the towns and the people.

@VervetMonkey
@VervetMonkey 6 жыл бұрын
Seeker KC Well there really isn’t a posibility for persistence, we don’t let them into the intro enclosures with babies. There is no reason to. I’ve never heard of one wanting to foster a baby. It’s not in their instinct. They have other things to worry about and they don’t care about the babies until they’re old enough to be groomed by them or play with them.
