I don't especially like Liz, but she's absolutely in the right for cussing him out and running. Her friend, who happened to be a lesbian, who is IN A RELATIONSHIP, touched her. Just... touched her arm. And Ed assumes she's cheating with a woman, and gaslights the holy shit out of her. How else is she supposed to respond? You can't respond rationally to Big Ed, he'll never apologize and he cannot imagine himself being wrong.

Yeah, I'm not on board for shaming someone for an emotional trauma response from an emotional abu ser like Ed. She needs to get as far away from this dude that targets younger, emotionally vulnerable women to stroke his own ego.

I heavily agree. On your engagement night, if your partner asks if you're in a relationship with someone you just kicked out of the event, he Can go f*ck himself. Of all the ways to ask about the situation, that's literally like a natural 20 in fricking crazy

Ed has a pattern of this. I remember when they were on the single life and Liz ran into an ex at a club. She was upset about seeing her ex and when she went to Ed for support he accused her of trying to meet the ex there. Bro, what? She is at your house in tears from literally seeing him there. What I saw when she got angry and ran off was someone thinking "omg this shit again?"

👆This!!! Right here! Leo should understand that by the end of the day Liz is still the victim and Ed is the abuser. I get that he was trying to be reasonable, but by the way he's talking about her comes across as victim blaming and I had to stop watching the video because of it.

@@Crithosceleg so much this. I always say that people who haven't experienced narcissistic abuse have no idea how awful people can be.. .Liz is doing what's called reactive abuse...also her repeating the problem Ed had with the woman is not admitting he's correct. She's just saying what he thought. I've seen a couple KZbinrs misunderstand her and idk why it's not clear what she meant. Could it be that they're young and don't have the experience to understand the nuances? Idk I found it troubling.

Leo, Liz isn't being childish for running away from Ed. She's at her breaking point and is understandably upset. They are at their engagement party but what does he do? assume that's she's cheating on him. While being grossly homophobic. Oh no her friends who happens to be a lesbian talked to her and touched her. Ed acting calm is a tactic abusers use to make their victims look like they are the ones in the wrong or over reacting.

Not to mention how he starts off the conversation on the phone to Liz. He starts off by telling her she ruined this, she ruined that. He projects his insecurities by telling her how she’s done all this and that, when he’s actually saying everything he’s doing. Blaming her for him cutting off contact with his mom and best friend. He’s toxic to the core🧪

Ehhh, I mean ... it's an understandable response but still a choice that's only going to make things worse for herself and the relationship. In that way, it's childish. While leaving, she should have said something like, "We'll talk about this later, I just can't believe you'd bring it up tonight. I'm not talking about it now, you sleep on your own and we will talk when I'm ready because this is a relationship and you don't own me." Yeah, she's clearly behaving like a person who's been abused and is trapped in a shit relationship, but as someone who also has been in that situation: i acted extremely childishly throughout, even though I no longer blame myself for behaving like I did. Just because something is understandable, doesn't mean it isn't childish. In truth, neither of them should be in this relationship. It's either being held together by the TV show, or this is literally all an act to make the TV show and then they will break up at the wedding so they can go their separate ways with a big paycheck.

I feel like this is coming across as blaming a victim of emotional abuse for finally hitting a snapping point after enduring for literally months of being abused. It's uncomfortable to be honest how Liz is being blamed for being "emotional" and talked badly about when Ed has been nothing short of nasty from the very beginning. Isolating her, manipulating her, fat-shaming her - a boiling point is beyond understandable for what she's suffered. And that reaction is what the abuser wants - to then point to the victim and say "Look, I told you, they're crazy and out of control."

Yeah. I had to stop watching the video after Leo had the audacity to say that Liz was "being childish" and "should've calmed down and talk" for running away from Ed after assuming that she's cheating on him AT THEIR OWN ENGAGEMENT PARTY and telling him to shut up while he's clearly gaslighting her. Big Ed is not the kind of person to reason with no matter who it is and it's so frustrating that Leo sat there and thought that Liz should be more reasonable to her abuser.

I am so glad people are pointing this out. It feels like Liz often gets unfairly blamed when she doesn't really deserve it. And in this situation she had every right to react how she did. You all said it best. This was kind of upsetting to watch.
@jenniferberger2005

I completely agree with you. There is this idea that an emotional response automatically is less valid than a logical response. Just because big Ed is sitting there calmly talking to a camera person after accusing Liz of cheating with a woman, at their own engagement party, that does not mean he is being logical. Just because Liz is crying and walking away as she explains her frustrations doesn't mean those frustrations aren't coming from a logical place. It makes me sad that so many people think this because often times abusers will push their victims past a boiling point and when the person reacts in anger, or frustrations people say oh the way you reacted this way so you're wrong too. He was wrong to abuse you, but you were wrong In how you reacted to your abuse. Like what? We should as a society stop telling people their in the wrong when they are reacting to their abusers and actually support victims for once, but that would require us collectively to address the misogyny in our society as a whole so slim chance there.
@Oliviaandtrina

I commented something similar without even seeing yours. As a previous victim, you know it when you see it. It's a PERFECT example of reactive abuse. And the timing is soo calculated. Sets her off, on camera, in front of everyone, at a huge event. Perfectly timed to make it seem like she's the crazy one, she's the issue, and "oh poor Ed has to put up with that?" Screw him dude. Fr. The victim blaming is unreal. I know that for someone who hasn't seen or experienced it, it's hard to understand. But still. That's all I can see here.

I love Leo but I think he is too harsh on Liz compared to Ed sometimes. In this episode Liz was immature for sure, but almost all of it was in reaction to Ed being awful to her. She just got in an argument with someone and instead of consoling her and making her fell supported, he immediately accused her of something knowing she was already worked up and drunk. Him prying shouldn’t have happened at all, but ESPECIALLY at that moment. Her running away was the best case scenario honestly, KEEP RUNNING LIZ!! I liked Ken and Danes reaction much more, they were cheering Liz on for literally running away from Ed and it was hilarious

Ed has some serious Narcissistic tendencies and Liz reacting in that way is no surprise to me.. Since they would've had many conversations like these behind the scenes behind closed doors, so Liz is right for acting that way... But the thing is that she needs to leave Ed and work on her own healing and loving herself and being strong for her daughter... Because her soul is getting crushed being in the same pattern of relationships with men... So she needs to really take a step back or a solo vacation to really self reflect and figure out what she needs to do alone.. Not under the influence of someone who doesn't even love her....

This honestly hurts as someone who has lived with long term emotional/psychological abuse. I am so disappointed in this take of this situation. I'm so confused how Leo could've interpreted it the way he did. We know Big Ed is abusive. Straight up. Liz might not be the greatest person, but no one deserves to be treated the way he treats her. Even if you don't know much about psychological/emotional abuse this is so obviously baiting, gaslighting, demeaning behavior. How Liz reacted was from pain and frustration as well as being under the influence at her own engagement party! This was in response to SEVERE and repeated emotional abuse. Reactive abuse is not abuse. To even compare their reactions is ignoring Ed's long documented history of abusing women and the very real pain that this kind of abuse causes.

Personally I think Liz was in the right. Sure she might have come across as emotional, but it's clear to me it's not coming out of nowhere. This is the culmination of being gaslit, controlled, second guessed and talked down to over a long period of time. I feel like we're missing a lot of the context here but I'd still say she was justified in blowing up at Ed. He immediately starts doubting her fidelity after a friend touches her arm. I'm willing to bet that's something she has to deal with a lot. Unfortunately it's not at all uncommon for people to withstand months or even years of emotional abuse in a relationship, only to be put down more when those suppressed emotions come out. Don't blame Liz for reaching a breaking point, Ed brought her to it and I think that's clear based on the way he talks to her and emotionally manipulates her. I'm praying that she moves on, she truly deserves better.

Its something like any type of abuse that happen and we know what happens when we don't consult to our loved ones. We will drown. So yeah. I agree with you on that

Idk if I'm necessarily starting to feel sorry for Liz but I am trying to take into account the shit she's been through with past relationships from what I keep seeing in various comments sections as well as what was mentioned in this same episode where they held their engagement party. It's like very very easy to make the same mistakes when you've been through the sort of such Liz has (I can relate in my own way with my own life experiences). I also know at least one person who dating a bad person and then decided to date someone else who is exactly the same according to them as well like wtf 😳 and now they have kids with that person and I'm like couldn't be me but also I sort of get it 🤔. Man the manipulation of Liz by Big Ed is strong and the fact that she's been through this before but still loves Ed like it makes me mad and sad but then I also get it because manipulation idk man 🤷🏽‍♀️.
@shamstam
@shamstam Жыл бұрын
I totally get it, like its rlly such a messed up situation bc of what she's been through. Her boundaries are all over the place and she's probably scared of being left alone again so she's having a hard time communicating her needs and ed isnt being validating to anything she says. always blame shifting. I really hope she is able to prioritize herself and leave, but i dont expect it with how she's been handling things so far. And ed..... is just too old to change. I expect nothing from him. his ego is so big and so fragile and not a bone in his body wants to change anything. He will probably always see himself as some sort of authority, wanting things to go his way

I have a theory that TLC got the "fight" on tape, but it wasn't what Ed made it out to be, so they didn't show it to keep the drama going. The girlfriend of the gal that Liz supposedly fought with has posted on social media that it wasn't a fight, it was Liz misunderstanding a joke. They were already leaving, and Liz made a big show of telling them to leave.

(Random Rant) "Support is support and family is family" nah, if that family is harmful or harming themselves, I'm not gonna put myself in more harm for family. Nobody should have to go through that much, and if they're not gonna listen they'll have to learn alone or with less support until they realize the problem l. Family are still just people; if they're abusive or terrible, you run, your mental health shouldn't be ruined for them. That's not family. It's easy to say "support is support and family is family." When you have a good family, but others will literally go through so much unnessecary pain to the point they off themselves all because they want to be seen as the good daughter/son.

Tbh I don’t see a future for Ed & Liz unless it includes more gaslighting and constant fighting. In a sad way, they remind me of my parents (minus the age gap) where they can’t talk about anything without someone blowing up on other and walking away, now they don’t speak to each other anymore because they only stuck together for their kids. They resent each other to the point my dad gets set off by the mention of her, and if that doesn’t convince you my mother had (drunkenly) confessed to having a thought of unaliving him. I hope for the best for Liz in this situation, she doesn’t deserve the bullshit Ed has been giving her, yes she has some issues herself but 90% of them are Ed. If he doesn’t mature up and work on himself Liz needs to leave him for good, it might hurt her ego but at least she won’t have to deal with a man child.

All I see here is reactive abuse from Liz. I know that if you haven't been through an emotionally abusive relationship, it's hard to understand what's happening. It doesn't justify her behavior at all. But he has beat her down(not physically that we know) so much, abused her for so long, manipulated and gaslit her, and she's snapping back. And perfectly timed, in front of others, he tries to come off as a calm rational one and trying to make her seem like she's *soooo* crazy. Like "wow guys look how out of control she is! Is everyone seeing how drunk and crazy she is? See what I have to put up with? She's the problem". I feel for her, I really do. He's a terrible person, abusive asshole. She's not in the right for this, but she is a victim.
