Ed is king of dishing out what he can't take. He's the first to talk about the physical issues of others, but don't dare talk about his neck because "it's a medical disorder!" Meanwhile he doesn't stop to think if the physical appearances or conditions of other people are 'medical disorders' or not. Straight up he's a terrible person and honestly deserves every insult he gets, because he doesn't have the tact to hold his own comments back.

You're right. I was in an abusive relationship with a narcissist and this is exactly how he treated me. I also find it disgusting how he said they were done and he ordered her to go to bed. Very dismissive. It makes the age gap between the two kinda gross and weird, like he's her dad. And she was abandoned by her father so she's probably been looking for someone to replace him her whole life. I think Ed needs a better therapist and I think Liz needs a therapist herself.

Considering Ed's marriage failed because of his own cheating, I think it's valid to wonder if Ed's insecurity comes from his own inability to be faithful. Yes this is what I tell everyone any time someone tells me they're being accused of cheating. Bruh. You're the one being cheated on. Why accuse you? Because they're thinking, "Wait, I'm secretly having sex with someone else, and they don't know, so that means they could be having sex with someone else, and I don't know! How dare they!" Is2g that's what they think. So, recognize the signs, accusations of you cheating are an admission that they're cheating, or at least have cheated in the past, and tbh once a cheater, always a cheater. Why? It's a deep personality flaw and there isn't really a cure for that. Beyond serious commitment to self-improvement and years of dedication. Not something most are willing to do just to improve themselves.

One thing I do disagree with: Liz wasn’t raising her voice because she was trying to gain control of the conversation, it was because she was sick of being talked over and ignored. My father was very similar to Ed, constantly pointing out my flaws but when I would bring up his he would deny it or tell me I took things the wrong way. I often reacted very similarly to Liz when my father and I would get into heated conversations, and he was the ONLY one I ever would react that way with. It wasn’t until I finally moved out when our relationship got better. Not because we talked things through, but because it became easier to avoid those types of conversations. Ed has destroyed Liz, and she has gotten to a point where she is just a shell of who she once was. That’s not to say Liz hasn’t done anything wrong, but Ed is an extremely manipulative man who will never see or accept his wrongs. Liz needs to run, and Ed needs to spend some time working on himself and not on finding a wife.

@@flowersandcheesecake1710 I'm so glad I'm not the only one noticing a little trend here with Leo's takes. I've also noticed it in one of the Badvice podcast episodes with another woman. I think he tries so hard to have a balanced view of all parties and show empathy to both that he kinda... forgets to critically think about all the data and ends up not empathising fully with them sometimes. I get he's mostly doing silly fun content but when Liz says 'You've done this horrible abusive thing to me' and Leo goes 'omg look at her hand movements haha' it's such a missed opportunity to talk about abuse and how it starts off and escalates until you can barely have any emotional control and are always on edge. It's not immaturity, it's trauma responses. They've made it clear she has trauma from previous abusive relationships and is trying to heal, so whether this trauma is from Ed or someone else originally, it's obviously a factor here that gets ignored for neck jokes. :/

Liz has her own problems but I do think that Ed provokes her (ie: dropping "positive" hints that she should lose weight then acting like she's such a monster for calling him fat). He basically authors the destruction of all of his relationships by choosing people who'll be dependent on him, further isolating them, and then trying to break them with passive insults and gaslighting. I hope Liz takes her daughter and leaves for good this time. Literally trying to trap women into staying and making him feel better about his shortcomings by making them feel small.

This relationship is so toxic! I'm not saying Liz is entirely innocent, but having been in a relationship where my boyfriend controlled where I went, talked shit about my friends and family, constantly made comments about my body, and would ask me questions then keep asking because he wanted to know the "truth" - it fucks with your head. Ed is controlling, manipulative, and mean. He's not only a hypocrite, but his behaviour borders on emotionally abusive. I don't bandy around the word gaslighting because, due to previously mentioned relationship, I've been gaslit, but it really seems to apply to him. Of course he was calm during the fight - he instigated and deliberately wound her up so he could look like the bigger person. This is a miserable little man and I hope Liz leaves him, gets therapy, and learns to love and her respect herself again.

I absolutely agree.. I spent years with men like that. The only thing I disagree with is, it doesn't "borderline on emotional abuse" it IS emotional abuse. These are the exact same behavior patterns that were followed by physical abuse.. every single time. I don't claim that it'll always end like that, but it's a pretty good indicator for what you are to this person, a punching bag.. Figuratively and/or literally To me, this is the equivalent to getting hit every day until at some point you defend yourself, getting guilt tripped into thinking you were the abusive one and taking it again. Every time giving up more control over yourself and ending up being not more than a shadow of your former self. Making it next to impossible to escape this situation. It really comes off as she's a woman so he automatically sides against her. He didn't show him telling her to take the ring off right then, so she did and left it on the producers phone. He didn't show before she confronted him about being fat that Ed didn't say "you're fat" but DID make a more subtle dig at her weight, and that he does it often. He decided not to show that he tells her she needs to look like she did when she was skinner and had an ED. Maybe it's all subconscious bias on his part, but it's really starting to bother me in the more recent videos. He's excusing flat out abuse as a "Everyone on both sides" thing. She's reacting to constant abuse. And the fact that she can't walk away and be alone when he wants to push something, but when she wants to talk Ed shuts Liz down. I have been in a narcissistic relationship; and it will turn you into someone you have NEVER been before. I am very calm and rational when I speak; and I think things through before they are ever spoken aloud, but that man had me screaming at the top of my lungs. Within a year, I didn’t recognize the person I had become (this being in my mid 40’s). I wasn’t some young buck that didn’t know any better. Ed is using all of the classic moves… 1. Starts a fight by “asking her a question”. He didn’t ask, he straight up accused her. 2. Blames her negative reaction on her being drunk and immature. 3. Tells his best friend (Rich)he’s basically dead to him if he can’t support them, then blames Liz for his friends not being there 4. Tells Liz to take off the ring and that they are done, then tells her she’s the devil for removing the ring 5. Not shown here, but he has admitted to fat shaming Liz; and has gone so far as to tell her he’s more attracted to her friend (that he took photos of) 6. When she brings up a valid point, he either goes completely off topic or just says he’s done talking 7. He took her earlier point of “I’d rather be a lesbian than be in this kind of relationship”, twisted it in his mind; and is now using it against her. 8. He is trying to socially distance her from ALL friends and family that can see through his BS. I could go on and on. You can not change narcissistic, manipulative people. She needs to run as fast and as far away as possible. He will have her so mind f…ed that she won’t know what reality is anymore.

He calls her fat, doesn't let liz leave the house unless its to go to the gym, she's not allowed to have friends, Ed accuses her of a multitude of unjustified shit, he flirts with other women in front of liz, the list goes on. He's a shitty person, he just is. He's a shitty person who's isolating liz and breaking down her self esteem so she doesn't leave him. He doesn't want her to have confidence he wants her to think she can't do any better. If I was in liz's position I would have called him much worse.

In defence of Liz throwing away the 13k ring: when she met Ed she was in a far lower socioeconomic class, she's regularly controlled by Ed using the limited money and free time she has, and an engagement ring symbolises tying two lives together and not much else. Throwing it away, expelling it from her sight and body, was Liz saying 'no more' and I love this for her. No one's credibility is worth an amount as lowly at 13k.

I think the only reason Ed was able to stay calm during the discussion was because he basically provoked Liz throughout the show, so he knew that her eventual blow up would happen and could therefore respond "maturely". It's like a bully picking on someone non-stop till they snap at them.
@JaCiBaYbEe
@JaCiBaYbEe Жыл бұрын
He's only "calm" because it's another part of the abuse tactics from him. Once they trigger the victim to the point of anger and exploding, like Liz was, then they get calm. While also making remarks they know will continue to trigger their victim. You can't take his side, you can't take either side. They're both extremely unhealthy for each other and need to learn to let go and move forward with their lives individually.

One thing we are kind of forgetting is how young she is compared to him, but he is not. Age gap relationship can work but only if this age gap is talked about and discussed in a fruitful and considerate manner. Big Ed repeadetly makes calls to authority based on his age, trying to explain things to lis she doesn't need explained. She also is portrayed as immature (which she is a bit) but always in contrast to him, who also is extremely immature and unaware of other people. They both aren't good for each other and need to work on themselves (no, Ed, having therapist doesn't suddenly makes you infallible)... Edit: omg, she has a curfew? Is she 16, not 29?

So, I've dealt with guys like Big Ed and all this "ring" stuff. Had he actually let Liz keep the ring, it simply would have been as a reminder for her to look at and long to be back with him over. He would have got upset if she sold the ring at all. And then he would have used it as a story to tell people how "she never gave him the ring back". And he'd have another sob story to tell the next woman he dates. 4 of my exes were weird about ring stuff. 3 constantly hinted around about marriage stuff and rings all the time, you know, the proverbial carrot on a stick with all that future faking bs (I didn't care though). And one of them presented me a $1 ring bc I agreed to date him, then he broke up with me, and next time I saw him, he kept talking about random rings in the hopes I would "remember", and want to get back with him, or at least give it back to him for the same reason my father wanted his wedding ring back. And then there's my father. He asked for the ring back so he could use it to propose to another woman after my mother divorced him. She had fulfilled that contract, so he wasn't getting that ring back and she threw it in the trash. So, he took his old wedding ring and wrapped twine around it to propose to the new woman. She rejected him and he ended up alone. Unless you've been in relationships with emotional manipulators, you just don't know the level they will sink to. And how difficult they will make it on you.

What about her, no no wait him” all he told me and till this day for 2 years next month, I respect still to this day. He said; “As long as you’re loyal to me, I’ll still love you and respect you being bisexual” We both respect our differences and similarities, even if they both tend to clash at times, but we still love and respect one another. So why is hard for Ed to believe that Liz could be saying the truth that she wasn’t with this woman, or that she’s lesbian, that’s how relationships work, you have and build trust.

Normally I would agree about someone raising their voice but having been in a relationship with someone a lot like Ed before, the phrase “women yell because they aren’t being heard, men yell because they aren’t being obeyed” applies. Yeah yeah, not all men, but with men like this: my ex would yell when I wasn’t following all of his instructions, I would yell back when he would repeatedly talk over me or tell me to shut up. Ed is using this as a tactic to say “oh you’re just an emotional woman!! You’re wrong!” Liz is being human. Yeah she shouldn’t call him fat, but he has such an over inflated ego for the little goblin he is and he has been bodyshaming her this whole relationship.

being calm while making completely ridiculous accusations is a gaslighting technique. People use the victims tendency to be emotional against them in these situations because their abuser was calm while trying to confront them. Nothing happened in the first place to warrant this behavior from ed, and liz's explosion is indicative that she's been going through this shit constantly with him. Always being accused of ulterior motives and then being TOLD how things ACTUALLY are by Ed. The dude is gaslighting her through and through in the entire discussion all because he's insecure. Liz may not have been the most calm and definitely said some things that are out of line, but whats more important is that she's standing up for herself against a man who's frankly abusing her.

Also, does anyone else see how abusive and manipulative Ed is? Liz says, he doesn’t let her hang out with her friends, she has a curfew. She can’t hang out with men because he gets jealous. But now he wants to isolate her from men and women. That’s why he’s preparing her by accusing her of being a lesbian. He’s isolating her. Also, he’s telling her to workout and drops “positive” hints. Basically, he says he’s not satisfied with her looks making her feel unattractive. That is devaluation. In addition, Liz has to walk on eggshells and even then it does not guarantee her any peace of mind. Liz, RUN. This relationship is emotionally abusive and it’s already getting worse. No person deserves to be treated like this by anyone. Edit: men like Ed and Ed himself are pieces of shit and the reason so many women struggle even in healthy relationships due to all the scars douchebags like that leave them with.
