What is considered a big gear gate start? 46..47??

Anything bigger than your preferred race gear.

I use larger tires; this way I dont have to change my gear... For example, I put 24"X2.10" for trainning, and for racing I use 24"X1.75". Sproket 34, freewheel 15.

What is the difference if you were to convert that to teeth (for our audience) thank you! Also, how does it feel when you go back to the smaller tire?

@@BMXTraining 34X15 on a cruizier is like 44X16 on a 20". It feels like you said, lighter, but you need to adapt to the new gear, you need to move your legs faster. I change tires, this way I dont need to cut a chain and sprokets.

I've found as I've got older my legs dont spin anywhere near as fast!. So I'm up to 45 -16 on my 20. I'm pretty sure the speed is the same or better, so I need the big gear start info. Thanks man.

What size cranks you running my friend. I went to 180’s with44/16 gears. Curious what length you were running.

Coach G, I’m 35 and I’m looking for training tips too better my leg conditioning for these long race days/weekend’s . I had a 10 hour Saturday at winter Nationals last weekend. 2.5 hours between motos. By the main my legs felt weak, sore, tight and exhausted. Thanks NCB 👍🏻

Seriously, you should take a look at the faster lap challenge training plan over at BmxTraining.com (it’s under training plans).
