They're so intimidating but so silly and endearing at the same time. Same with the vultures!! Black vultures and turkey vultures are some of my favorites to bird watch, they have some interesting little personalities and relationships.

Fun lil story: I was sitting alone in my garage one rainy night, playing the guitar and all the sudden I started hearing the most crazy shrieking noises coming from the sky. It sounded like vampires or demons were circling me but I couldn’t see anything and it was terrifying but also so hypnotic. I looked it up after and I’m pretty sure that it must have been a barn owl or two. Never knew they sounded like that, it was seriously cool!

9:30 Bro its so sad that carrion feeding birds get a bad wrap they're so dang cool Edit: im pretty sure that the reason why carrion feeding birds in india are endangered is cuz there is a religion called Zoroastrianism and the Zoroastrians had these buildings where they would put their dead on the top of these building and the birds would eat them as a last good deed (for the dead person) and the indian government made the use of these buildings illegal (my info is based on fragmented memory of my obbsesive interest in Zoroastrianism so plz do ur own research and feel free to correct me)
@poorsocialskills3 ай бұрын
Bro religion is so goddamn interesting istg (no pun intended)

I think it is also due to a drug (diclofenac) used on cattle that was dangerous in the birds. While it has been banned in India, it is still used due to low cost. It is also still used in some European countries.
@poorsocialskills3 ай бұрын
@@stevenbarr7125 ah I didn't know about that makes sense tho
@jmanius13 ай бұрын
It's mainly the drug that is used on cattle. Lots of Indians prefer having vultures around as they take care of dead cattle carcasses (which ironically is also the reason why the drug has reduced their numbers so drastically)
@Yuhhuh13 ай бұрын
These are known as "Sky burials" and are actually the most eco-friendly way to choose to be buried. The vultures and monks that practiced this tradition formed a sort of symbiotic relationship, the birds could always expect a meal when they saw the funeral, and would efficiently return their remains back to the earth. Most other forms of burials introduce huge amounts of greenhouse gases, especially cremation which is incredibly wasteful and releases a ton of CO2. Seems incredibly foolish to ban a practice that imo is a net positive for both the climate and the environment

In regards the barn owl called Banshee. I was kayaking nearby where I live in west cork, Ireland, where there is bioluminescence. Locals believe that a barn owl would dive into the water for food and come up covered in the bioluminescence and screech before or after. Hence the banshee was born.
