Never seen the footage of Carlton v Dogs where the fight in the crowd spilled onto the field. Saw some shocking crowd behaviour in the old days. Too much grog, crowded stand up venues, getting urinated on from the stands at Victoria Park, all in brawls at the sardine can at Windy Hill and usualy Saints fans were too busy punching on with each other to worry about the opposition. Thugs like Matthews on and off the field. Still remember the father that got king hit protecting his son in the middle of a brawl who died (in the 80s). It was a great era but glad theyve cleaned it up.

I remember the pie stall bursting into flames at Arden Street, if I recall rightly it probably sounded the deathknell for that venue as it was ramshackle and rundown. It only hosted another 13 matches after this one and the Roos moved to the MCG. The crowd fight at Princes Park, wonder if that was the Builders Labourers Federation or Painters & Dockers Union lads involved in that one? The Dockies caused a massive crowd stink-on at a VFA game at Geelong-West in 1979 where they even threatened the television commentators at one point!

Best football in those days. Good direct long kicking. With all the “rules” they have brought into modern football, all they have done is make the game more congested with more stoppages, more confusing, and no safer for players. In this old footage, no one is deliberately kicking the ball out of bounds; there’s no pushing in the back; players are not trapping ball under opponents to fool the umpire into a fee kick. Rucks actually contest the bounce instead of the dance they do these days. They should scrap all the new rules and go back to basics. With today’s score review technology the game would be terrific.

100% - every rule brought in since 1990 needs to be listed and assessed if it has brought any benefit to the game! I reckon 5% have added anything - the rest have ruined what was once a great game
