This is the scene that made me fall in love with this show. The way that this conversation calmly but direly escalates into quiet hostility is incredible. Ed calling Nathan's subtle disrespect out was amazing.

Ed is the type of person I would be very afraid of messing with. Those people who let things slide and slide, turn the other cheek to BS, let things roll off their shoulders mean well ALL of it is really building in their chest ready to jump into your chest...Hard

''even'' 50% of childcare? Dude, that's not some ''modern standards'' or being ''sensitive'', it's NORMAL, most fathers actually want to take active part in raising children, that's not so ''out of touch'' to expect that!

Nathan is literally every guy who thinks he's "cool" with zero proof. Probably reads BS psychology tabloids and feels smart afterward's. Nathan, and Maddie dont realize there is no apologizing to Ed at this point.

I could relate so much to that. I was a martial artist since about 4 years old and I knew if I wanted to I could’ve easily beaten up the bullies, but the “mature” thing was to walk away. I regret that and have that same feeling of hope one day someone will go a little too far and I can “redeem” myself.

Let me tell you a story. Years ago I was in the Navy on an aircraft carrier and this guy in my division decided to step up to me. He said some pretty fucked up shit, things that would make anyone without a grip on their temper throw something or scream at them. At the time, I decided to just let it go because come to find out, he was getting kicked out for getting in another alcohol related incident with the cops and I had 1 year left, I didn't want to chance any possibility of getting kicked out and losing my GI Bill to some lowlife scum. Then I deeply regretted not punching him, and I easily could've, he decided to put his finger on my chest. I as well was grappling and kickboxing and the chances of me claiming self-defense would've stuck. It sucked knowing that it was a lesson he should've been taught. But look here man, the fact that you didn't retaliate with violence (regardless of them deserving it or not) says a lot about your character and it takes a large amount of resolve to control, something that can be seen as coveted nowadays. Some people have someone or something fuck with them so bad that it affects their lives on the daily. But they don't matter, they'll go on to live a karma-prone lifestyle and you'll just continue to evolve into the man you need to be. Props to you and keep your good character, do what's good for you.

We who were taught and lived by the “turn the other cheek” rule, all come to have some regret. Partly due to questioning the source but partly due to a degree of frustration. If it any consolation, you did the right thing. Violence, even if you come out on the winning side, leaves you empty. Let the past go. Many admirer your strength to walk away. Stay strong.

Ed issued a veiled threat to Nathan. Nathan is trying to alpha male Ed and Ed wasn't having it. Nathan is that bully from Ed's childhood who will one day go one step too far and regret that he ever screwed around with Ed.

@maragathm5 жыл бұрын
agreed i didn't understand why ED was being so sensitive. and talking down is insulting but he was not being bullied. Nathan and ED are both children, anytime one person says something the other has to misunderstand it.
@zaxbitterzen21783 жыл бұрын
@@maragathm Cuz Nathan cheated on his wife, and Nathan is quite obviously talking down to Ed, and Ed knows it. Imagine trying to have a "civil" conversation with your bully, but every word out of their mouth is some macho tangent clearly trying to be dominant. You'd be right proper irritated AF wouldn't you? Especially having a background in being bullied yourself you know the tells.
@clashofqueen933 жыл бұрын
I thought it sounded to Ed as if Nathan was saying that if he goes to Maddy instead he could get Maddy back. Since prior to this scene Maddy was always talking about Nathan and if you remember that scene where Ed asked Maddy if Nathan was the one that she never got over. So Ed in his mind due to Maddy perceiving, that Maddy would go to Nathan.
@pandaluna3 жыл бұрын
I came here because I was confused about this too. I think Nathan is saying it would be indelicate to go to Maddie because she's so hot-headed compared to Ed. I can see how Ed would find that insulting to Maddy's honor so to speak, but how is it a threat?
@BatmanHQYT2 жыл бұрын
It's a threat because he's implying he could always go and tell Maddy, which would cause more hell for Ed than just discussing it privately.
