Big News - Magma Intrusion under Reykjanes and Earthquakes All Around Iceland

Күн бұрын

A magma intrusion has been detected under the Reykjanes peninsula so the big question must be if we are moving closer eruption no3. This was however announced just this afternoon, the magma is still rather deep down and this might turn into nothing. But this could also be the beginning of a new phase that ens up with an eruption before the summer is over. However, this was originally supposed to be a general update due to all the earthquakes around Iceland, and I suspect that I will need to make another update before the week is over.

Drones have made such a vast difference to being able to see Iceland in all her glory. They give us a wonderful "birds' eye view" that we never really had to such a detailed degree before, and, no doubt, the drone manufacturers have made a huge fortune ever since the 'touristic eruptions' in Iceland! So they should give you special discounts because they get free advertising from your exquisite videos. Thanks so much for all your efforts that make it possible for me to enjoy this precious, beautiful island, since I can no longer travel anywhere. Greetings from South Africa.

The prospect that multiple volcanoes might go off at the same time is rather daunting. Does Iceland have any plans for mass evacuations in case something like that happens?
@Meybroz
@Meybroz Жыл бұрын
The emergency rescue services (not sure their exact name in English) have run multiple scenarios, but as far as I know, they do not account for simultaneous eruptions. My guess is that such a plan is as it's said in Iceland: "þetta reddast!" - it'll work itself out, more or less.
@brucetidwell7715
@brucetidwell7715 Жыл бұрын
@@Meybroz It's seems like one of the most problematic things about an evacuation in Iceland is, "where would people go?" In other parts of the world there are many towns and cities to absorb the flow of refugees and many hotels, etc. for them to stay in. It's still disruptive and traumatic, but possible. In Iceland, even tent cities would be almost uninhabitable when winter comes.
@Ricodj1309
@Ricodj1309 Жыл бұрын
Iceland isn't really that densely populated outside of Reykjavik and from my experience most of the people know what to do in case of danger. As for Reykjavik itself. There are actually areas where building isn't allowed as in the case of a eruption near the capital those areas would form the most likely route for lava to take. Which would actually be a interesting topic for a video.

This is all so exciting Gilfi! So many that could possibly go up in a huge way., meaning that many of them could be dangerous eruptions, unlike Fagradasfial, which was a close spectator sport that brought people from everywhere to come and view a real erupting volcano! 🌟

You may want to make a new video, as Fagradsj-something is experiencing large EQ swarm at right now, mostly at 3-5km depth. IIRC, it's experiencing around ~150 to ~200 EQs since it started like few hours ago. Plus, I think that RUV article has confirmed that there is new uplift going on since April 2023, it has uplifted like 2 to 2.5 centimeters.

Tbh, Gylfi, þ is probably the easiest to get used to pronunciationwise since it's just the th in English thin. The difficult part is that many seem to think that þ is a form of p(!?), so that's why in the show Vikings, Þórunn is called Porun. It's the same with ð where many thing that it's a variation of the letter o rather than the letter ð. So I sometimes see Fuglafjørður in the Faroes spelled as Fuglafjorour, and well, I can't do anything but shake my head. Takk fyri dagføringina um Katlu, Hovsjøkul, Vatnajøkul og Fagradalsfjall. Altíð áhugavert at hoyra nýggj tíðindi úr Íslandi um, hvussu gosfjøllini skikka sær.
