Big Screen Basics - How to use and hosting settings

This has to be my favorite Oculus app. Its free and its a great way to watch movies, sports or any content you want to share with others. You basically mirror what your pc is displaying. I have to say watching a live sporting event through Big Screen is great. Think of it as a sports bar with some of your friends and some folks that came in off the street.

I swear I've had nothing but bad luck with hosting bigscreen. Worked for a few months then constant issues. Finally got decent internet. 20 mbps upload and i still can't stream without some lag for those in my room. I've gone between the resolutions and bitrate with no change. Im at a loss.

Big screen running ok, I can access my desktop normally, but when I launch a game (gta5 for example) it opens another screen in front of Bigscreen which is showing my desktop and it becomes duplicate screen. I don’t know how to close this second screen that pop up and stay only with the theater screen of the Bigscreen environment.

Can i host crunchyroll with a friend just strictly through the quest 3, I'm able to watch crunchyroll anime only with the quest without a pc but my friend cant see what I'm displaying on the screen

This gives you a second virtual screen? Oh wow, I wish I would of known this. I am currently using Immersed for a second virtual screen. What is your opinion or comparison between Bigscreen and Immersed? Or is the second screen just a copy of the same screen?

I will need to look into immersed not tried it. Big screen allows you to display a mirror of your pc screen. If you are NOT hosting you can see the screen the hoster is showing and make a second screen for your desktop.

OK immersed looks much more geared to work spaces. Giving you multiple work windows. I not tried it but bigscreen is more focused on watching content with other people. It don't allow others to see multiple screens unless you have them all open on your desktop

Alright so I followed all these steps, but when I share my desktop I can't hear the audio in the Quest 2 headset. I still hear the audio coming from my laptop. How do I set it up so that I can hear the audio from the headset only?

You need to look at which audio source you laptop is using. Some ppl have to change it. Also remote desktop or big screen had a optional audio driver to install.

Is bigscreen program running on pc, make sure you are on same network. The pc program shows when oculus looks into bigscreen and when you are hosting.

What if i want to have the screen always move with the movement of my head? Example: I start watching a movie and decide to lie down on the cauch. In that case the movie has to be shown on the seiling, not where the movie was. What if i want to get something to drink go to the toilet but keep on watching the movie? (i know what people are going to say now. "How unhygienic!". IT'S AN EXAPLE !!!). The serouning has to be passthrough to see where you walk but the bigscreen must go with your movement. So i want to make the room turn off but the screen has to move with the movement of my head, even if i lie down. Just the bigscreen, noting else floting in the air.

If you use a default screen (tv or movie theater) location your can turn your head or walk or lay down with no issues. If you create a second screen location it moves with your head

@@DaButcher No it does not. The screen always stays in a fixed position. So if i turn my head to the right the screen moves to the left and if i look up the screen moves down, as a normal tv also does. Passtruegh lets Bigscreen disapear completely. It does not let the screen stay. I want to see only the screen (and the program window) without the envirement (like a theatre) and move the screen with my movement. That should not be so difficult?

Bluetooth headset connected to Meta Quest 3 Bigscreen hearing audio glitches, static noise. Tried with different set of Bluetooth headsets same result. When using wired headsets and speaker from Meta Quest 3 audio works fine. Has anyone encounter this problem? Please help TIA!

Is your pc strong enough, your upload fast enough or you got stiff running in back ground on pc? Do you hear the choppy on the pc or just in big screen? I have only had a few jumps when using air link.

Thanks for your video. Can you advise how to "kick" or mute someone from a room that you've hosted? I hosted one recently and a few kids came in and were interupting the video. I'm relatively new to BigScreen and haven't figured it out yet. Thanks.

You simply click on room and you will see a list of people in the room. You can mute or kick people from that menu. Once you kick a person, they can't return until you recreate a room. We use that often. Also if you want to limit kids. Set the room to NSFW.

Make sure you turn on SHARE SCREEN . Another issue I have seen lately when ppl can't see my screen. I close bigsreen on oculus and the bigscreenvr program on my pc. Then relaunch pc bigscreenvr then inside my oculus.

No way to add ppl to your room.. you can add them as a friend and you will see they on bigscreen.. well sometimes it shows it ..lol It does claim its BETA so not all things work great.

New to this whole thing so ty so much for the video. Is it still correct that the only way to share screen is through your pc? Is it possible to share the apps that seem to come with bigscreen such as disney plus and prime? Seems strange that there should have to be that extra step. You still need to use a pc to basically be the host of whatever service you want to stream.

Haven't tried this sharing yet although have had bigssreen on my headsets for years I prefer virtual desktop for watching movies especially 3D content the environments VD offers are really cool love the auditorium and manhattan apartments

3d is ok on it but not a huge fan of 3d.. we have watched some 2d movies on there. Last Saturday I had a 4 screen stream, Bellator, BKF, PFC and Toughman out of WV. We saw some good fights and cracked a lot of good jokes at some of them.

Hi.. do i have to downgrade to windows 10 in able for me to host the bigscreen? I have a new laptop but its pre installed windows 11,. I cant even airlink my oculus to the laptop, is it because im using windows 11? Please lemme know THANKS IN ADVANCE

I think windows 11 does not work with hosting on bigscreen. One of my friends bought a new laptop and could not host. This may a problem they fix in the future but I know he traded the laptop for one with win10.

You can't add a second monitor when you are hosting 1 already. If someone else was hosting you could show your work desktop on a second screen in bigscreen.

Hey dabutcher. Please help. When stream from my laptop to my oculus for movies just for myself to watch, it’s very glitchy and laggy. The sound as well. My laptop is fast and so is my internet. Please help.

@@mongo818 what is speed of your wifi?? I use wifi 6 and runs smooth. Also the video card on pc/laptop is important. Poor device can hurt streaming quality

@@DaButcher first of all thanks for replying. I am using wifi 6 as well. Not exactly sure how to check my video card but my display adapter is using Intel(R)UHD graphics. Not sure if that’s it or not. I have not tried hosting a room or sharing my desktop. I usually just stream movies from my laptop to my oculus for myself to watch. But it’s very laggy most of the times. Maybe I’m missing something??

@@mongo818 if I had to guess I would guess the cpu and gpu is to weak on laptop. You could also run the minimum programs on your laptop to lighten the load on your laptop. You could also join my telegram rooms to get more help. Yt is hard to talk back n forth.

Once u open a room you can't change the number of people. You have to choose the room and reopen to change the amount of people in the room

Well instead of streaming from your PC or your laptop is it possible to play the videos that are already uploaded to the headset and then play them that way would people that you invite into your private room see those?

I guess you could watch videos uploaded to your headset by yourself. Remote desktop sites the same thing. But the big plus to bigscreen is watching movies, shows or live events with others. We use it like a sports bar of sports bar. These live streams need a pc or laptop to be playing the stream.

@@Perry_Fan I don't think so. Bigsxreen pc program has to be running to host a room that others can see. The pc transcodes and uploads it so other ppl can see it.

Is the bigscreen program running on your pc? On the pc program, do you see both boxes in GREEN (one sites you on bigscreen the other shows you hosting)? In big screen, make sure you check the box SHARE MY SCREEN

Make sure on your pc you set audio to bigscreen on pc control panel. Also make sure you have big screen program running on your pc as well as oculus
