"Need for speed" jelly time! That 4-1/2" barrel is yielding near or at .357 Sig velocities using this stuff. A few more of those and that Taurus might slap your finger back to Brazil. Would I use this ammo? Yeah, I definitely wouldn't hesitate if that's what I had at any given time. Would I use it over Hooligan Shredding Terminators or the Old Dot that time forgot? No. Would I use it over a Hornady 115 grain XTP loading? Absolutely yes. Thanks for the video!

My son in law tells me our local PD (he’s a cop) just switched to Speer Got Dot 124 grain +p+ from the Winchester T series they were using. Maybe the reason Underwood can’t get the Gold Dots anymore is Speer may be targeting law enforcement contracts. Whatever the reason I sure hope they can get them again soon. The Gold Dots at +p+ velocities is a match made in heaven. Another simply great video sir. I’m always looking forward to the next one. 👍🏻

Max Speer Gold Dots have long been the #1 choice of Law Enforcement be it in 9mm, .40 caliber, .45 GAP, .45 ACP, or 357 Sig. So they aren't necessarily "targeting law enforcement contracts" because they already have the market cornered. And although Speer does make a 9mm +P+ round its in 115 grain, not 124. Most departments, including the nations's largest the NYPD use the Speer Gold Dot in 124 grain +P. So there's a good chance your son in law's department switched to the 124 grain +P as well.

@@Gsmooth10455 He’s always been a gun guy and is currently teaching firearms training at the academy. As a side note, at one point Underwood loaded a 124 +p+ gold dot. I know, I’ve got some in my ammo locker. Underwood’s good stuff. Quality. You did leave out one loading of the Gold Dot for the NYPD, the 125 grain 38 special. Approved for backup and the few older officers that still opted to carry revolvers. In any caliber it’s what’s in my guns. I’m done here.

Just think the one out of the P80 was as big as the one out of the GX4 before it kept trucking and then peeled back further making it smaller. Brutally effective!

Federal makes a similar +P+ 9mm load, the 9BPLE. Not generally available to civilians, but they can be found on Gun Broker at times.

Nice test today Tools. I wonder if you'd get the trigger slap with a similar gun from a different manufacture. Like you said this isn't range ammo, but I've always encouraged others to fire what they plan on carrying so they know how it will feel and shoot. Have a great weekend Tools. I carry the GD versions in my 92FS, or Federal's +P HSTs. Both are stellar performers, but the HSTs are available in 50 round boxes, not 20 (which I consider an insult). They are real smokers! The velocity is taking that bullet right up to its breakup speed. If the bullets weren't bonded, they'd end up looking like Hornadys. Thanks for the vid.

Never really understood what people meant by trigger slap until I got a springfield xd-s 45. Run a box through that thing and your fingertip is numb for an hour. Still has a home firmly above my right butt cheek, can't argue with the way it shoots, the accuracy, and the beefy weight of a 45acp. Another great test, Tools.

When I first built my AR9, I just had a stock carbine buffer and spring in it. The trigger slap was horrendous. It would hit so hard that it would act like a forced reset and give you unintended 3 and 4 round bursts. Finally ended up snapping a trigger pin it was slamming the hammer back into reset so hard. It now has a heavy 9mm buffer and an extra power recoil spring.😆

The XDS 45 is a classic BEAST!!! Probably likely the GOAT 🐐 of 45acp carry pistols I have 2 of the OG XDSs...(1st gen) I carry a XDS 45 EVERYDAY with a couple of 5 round mags on my off side and I'm VERY VERY comfortable!!!! ✌I have glocks..sigs..HKs & FNs...those XDs are the same comparable build quality as my HKs...great pistols!!

These are my carry load in my G19 Gen5. Three mags on my belt are HST 124 gr +P and one of Sig Sauer 9mm NATO 124 gr +P in case barricade penetration is needed. Your test makes me feel good about the first 16 rounds.

@@whatsup24_7 It’s actually crazy, I used this load for regular training ammo in my USP9 at one point. You would be surprised how affordable it is to load clone ammo of it. Nosler 115gr JHP is cheap in bulk and Underwood likes to use simple Winchester Autocomp powder.

I also like the Hornady custom 180 grain in 10mm but I only use Hornady custom in 10mm

That projectile is not designed well for 1400 FPS. I mean it still works, but it's sub-optimal. If I was using a full size pistol I would want the same expansion that the shorter barrel produced.

I carry these, they are in my personal opinion one of the best options for shorter barrels theyll still hit like a standard out of a full size which is what I want. Out of full size pistols they are almost overpowered and sometimes OVER expand, and dont penetrate as much. I recommend these out of your shorter barrel pistols if you want the most performance per shot, but they have a noticeable stout recoil and report as well.

Holy Teledo that's cranking out of a 3". The book on my 3.2" says No to +P+ ammo. But last weekend I went to the range with some stock Fionnci Range Dynamics 115 grains FMJ rated at 1200 ft/sec and wow was that hot. Not even +P rated. I might find a box of their JHPs after that performance.

I tossed them threw my m&p plus 3" , with hoag slide on grip sleeve . It cushions everything 😊. Which really made them feel the same as +p124 jhp underwood . At 1225 on box . 115 printed a tighter group . I hope I never have to shoot them without hearing protection . 4" or 3" barrels ! Can't wait to try some v crowns 👍

Great test, Brian! Finally, some 9mm loaded the way they should be loaded! To be perfectly honest, I'm a bit surprised the Noslers held together so well and I suspect the jacket and core might seperate if I shot them into my usual media, the zip lock bags filled with water. Still, I would carry these without hesitation! Too bad Speer can't manage to get even close to performance like this! Keep up the great work! Cheers, jc

These rounds are really bringing the heat. It seems to me that the 3” barrel gets the best performance out of it when you consider expansion/penetration/weight retention. They are going a bit too fast in the longer barrel, but the 3” seems just right. Did you get the 147 grain +p+ gold dot loads in the box?

This might be going to far into the past for most people, but these remind me of the philosophy behind the 1990s Corbon 115g +P (or maybe they were +P+, I'm not sure) rounds. Loaded very hot. They also had a 90 g and so did Triton with their Hi-Vel rounds. But, the Corbon rounds from back then lost a lot of material when they were run through modern gel tests. Anyway, the Underwood rounds look good for heavier tools (like home defense tools), but my carry tools are very light and I'll stick with regular pressure rounds for them.

Corbon still makes their 115g+p HP, it's not bonded so tends to fragment, which isn't bad if you ask me. They're great rounds.

@@MB-jg4tr 125grn 357mag semi jacket hollow point would "frag" like that. Massive energy dump, then the bullet sheds lead and penatrates another 10 inches or so. The rounds would compress blood vessels in the chest. This "spike in blood pressure will burst small capillaries in the brain. Basic concussion. Don't know why this has been buried. Well..... yes, I do: Bad press from ER doctors and department heads. It is very hard to repair a big shredded hole like that. The 357mag 125grn usually weighs about 90grns after it ends it's travel.

Just bought 2 boxes of the +p version of these. Says 1400 fps on the box. They had two 115 gr +p underwood. These were the uw112 the uw130 weren’t as fast. Absolutely love to see how these perform before purchasing! Thanks again Tools!

Was just looking at these rds today but I decided to Keep my money for the federal hst 50 rd boxes 124gr and the 147 gr 2 of each on the way to me might just have to try these out I never had any luck with nosler in pistol ammo but like you said underwood prolly pushes then fast enough to make the difference

Nice vid Brother. Underwood continues to “kill it”. I have 115 gr Extreme Defender. 135gr JHP, 155 gr JHP, 155gr FMJ, 200gr Hardcast for my 10mm. I’ll tell you what my man, that 155gr FMJ about knocks my shoulder out of socket. HURTS SO GOOD. Im gonna have to retire some of my Hornady 9mm and pick up some of this. No Brainer. Love me some Underwood ammo, but in my 10mm. EDC is 135 gr @ 1,600 fps. 768 lb/ft of muzzle energy. 200 gr 1,200 fps I believe it is, hardcast for woods carry. For my 9mm EDC, nothing but Federal HST 124 grain.

In my book, anything hitting 1200 FPS is essentially magnum pistol speed. I do worry about the wear and tear on guns with such hot ammo. I'm sure a constant diet would not be recommended. I could see parts busting in some older pistol designs pretty early. That stuff is literally the old hot Euro loaded submachine gun ammo intended for open bolt or maybe MP 5 platforms. Too much of a good thing maybe. Even standard NATO ball ammo is a bit warm for plinking in some pistol designs for a good long service life.

Underwood ammo is all I carry these days. Each version they produce for 9mm has performed great in my testing, even when shooting my micro 9mm's.

I remember us chatting about Underwood swapping out the Speer Gold dots for the Nosler ASPs and their proprietary hollows and how that might affect performance; I just checked, and their +p+ loadings are a little vague on what round they're using now. It says Nosler, but not ASP, and the rounds definitely don't look the same on their site as the ones you just showed (most notably no scored cuts on the jacket on the photos on their site). Pretty certain those aren't nosler. They were at one point but there is a reloading manufacturer that makes these projectiles. I want to say Barry's bullets but it's probably a different one. Look around you'll find it.

If love to chrono those out of a pcc see how much velocity it can pick up, almost pushing 500 ft-lbs out of a 9mm that's impressive. Underwood is some spicy stuff for sure! Was always curious about the nosler loadings I think they perform better than the Speer gold dots Underwood loads up. I have some of the Lehigh defense xtreme defenders from them, light for caliber but seem to perform well. Might have to see if I can find a place for these.

Great video and thankyou. That is very consistent ammo with very little deviation in velocity. I would imagine that this ammo would be very accurate as well. I know +P+ 9mm ammo is not recommended in most 9mm handguns but for everyday carry you know that these will get the job done.

@@ToolsandTargets understand. I’ve had HOT ammo result in primer flow back- which prevented Firing Pin from igniting subsequent rounds. Got in habit of checking for that, especially on “carry” ammo.

Thanks for these reviews! That’s a HOT little round. I like the +p+ ammo I miss the days of getting the federal 115 +p+ not a fancy hollow point but fast and hot, always did good by me. I still have a few boxes but never see em since the covid.
