@@ijustwanttonap Madison is one of the best college towns in the country and Camp Randall is one of the best stadium experiences in college football. This whole weather thing is overrated because people travel across climates for NFL football all the game including to Green Bay when it's actually freezing outside. ACC solution is to have the Big 10 giving conditional membership to 4 ACC teams, SEC gives conditional membership to 4 ACC teams, and the Big 12 conditional membership to 2 to 4 ACC teams. The condition for entry is the dissolution of the ACC. This would entice enough schools to vote the ACC out of existence and should get them out of the grant of rights.

I think it highly likely that Florida State and Clemson will jump to the Big Ten. Clearly both schools would be a better fit for the SEC but it seems that the SEC has closed the door for a while on expansion. Don't know about Virginia but as a North Carolina grad, I don't think we won't to leave the ACC. UNC is in a different position. We are not a football school. And we are perfectly content to go 8--4 for the next hundred years. Not too long ago Carolina reduced capacity in their stadium from 64,000 to 50,000. Why? Because 50k is about right. What we care about is beating Duke in basketball. That's it. We might join the Big Ten eventually, but we'll take our time. And if we do move, Duke is coming with us!

It's not an either/or. UVA and UNC are in huge growing media markets and are major academic institutions. UNC's football program is at least trying to be competitive similar to Nebraska, Wisconsin, Illinois, and MSU. UVA is no worse than Rutgers and Northwestern in my opinion. What you get in the market, recruiting ground, basketball, and academics more than makeup for what they lose on the football field. Plus the mid-level teams in the B1G do need easier games. Teams like Maryland and Iowa still need a path to 6 or 7 wins a year.

The USC/UCLA move confirmed that the gap had reach critical mass, starting the unmistakable transition to a P2 (or much less likely P3) world.

I think plan is to hold. Here is the deal, if ACC implodes and B1G already had 20, it harder to get ACC schools. The amount per school they can offer will be lower than SEC. So then B1G could lose Florida schools and be locked out of recruiting in that top and growing state. B1G loses FSU, Miami, UNC, Virginia and maybe Clemson. Certainly their big prize ND (which would pair great with Stanford). So i think it pauses. Next stop is 20 eventually. 24 is the largest possible before this could splinter apart again.

Radical idea #2: The Big offers the entire ACC to join the B1G except Syracuse, wake Forest, and Pitt. The rest of the conference knows it has a landing spot. So, they vote to dissolve the conference. Everyone can join any other conference they want with no financial penalties. If all 10 the B1G offered join the big, that leaves 4 spots available to bring the B1G to 32 schools. 4 eight team divisions. Figure Norte Dame, Stanford, A Texas school, and another at large school.

This realignment is about contraction via consolidation. The second round of relegation: a) The BIG8 relegated the SWC remainders to the G5, and the ACC (mostly) did the same to the old BIGEAST. The P5 world was born. b) Over time, the PAC, B1G and SEC (mostly) relegated the BIG12 remainders down to a new Tier 2. c) The B1G and BIG12 relegated the PAC remainders down to the Tier 3/G5. d) The ACC is the last holdout for this process.

Syracuse is comparable to BC in football and better than many B1G schools in basketball; Pitt is a credible team in both football and basketball -- and they once had a natural annual football rivalry with Penn State; and Wake Forest has great basketball rivalries with all 3 other North Carolina schools who will be welcomed into the B1G under your plan -- and also has a better basketball team than several B1G schools. Accordingly, I don't understand the exclusions you propose.

We’ll see come Tuesday (the 15th) if your prediction about ACC schools leaving by 2024 is correct. If FSU doesn’t have a plan to leave - which I don’t think they have a feasible one - the Clemson and Miami are also staying out for the next 2 years (at least). Let’s say the private equity (JP Morgan Chase) bit is correct. If FSU goes, I don’t see another 6 schools that can afford to leave as well - meaning the ACC is intact. Plus that’s not even factoring in the GOR. The SEC may say that they aren’t expanding but no way they’ll let FSU or Clemson go to the BIG10. UM May see a future as an AAU member and the BIG10 may like that media market. We’ll see but I’m not bullish on that either. Last, the ACC may grab Stanford and Cal before the BIG10 does. The BIG10 already got the LA market - whatever that is worth. I’d say in terms of fan engagement and prestige (alumni donation too), Stanford is an almost equal pickup to that of USC.

I still say that NOONE is leaving the ACC until 8 teams have a better landing spot OR 2030, whichever comes first. 12:19 I had to put a second comment to this because it’s so dumb. Can you imagine being a Nebraska fan after enduring 6 years of Scott Frost & whoever, then getting this new coach and saying to someone in the know, hey, what have you heard about the new coach? Well, I hear he’s a big supporter of the huddle. I swear to God I would punch him in the face if that’s the “inside scoop” he brought me.

The SEC needs losses actually. Schools like Duke, and Virginia would be exactly what teams like Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, Ole Miss , Auburn and Mississippi State need to pad their records. #2, great basketball and multi sports schools. #3 they will take incentive money for 10 years. Full membership money after that.

a) The P2 will have parity rules that aren't feasible in the current P5. b) Very unlikely that any school with invites from both the SEC & B1G will accept a partial base share. c) Makes no sense to depreciate a program that is worthy of the P2 when the goal is to be the best P2

The conference has no realistic chance of catching up to the SEC without even more bold moves. SEC has too much talent. B1G has to get into the talent or buy it from a distance. I see a day when there are only 3 Power Conferences (B1G, SEC, Big XII) consisting of 20 to 22 members each: First, I wouldn't mind having the B1G add 4 more members (Stanford, Cal, Notre Dame, Virginia) Then the SEC increase to 20 members by adding Florida State, Clemson, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech... Then the Big XII increase to 22 members by adding Miami, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, Louisville, Pitt, and Syracuse... Then the 3 remaining small private schools of the ACC (Boston College, Wake Forest, and Duke) get picked up by the Big East... so, combined with the existing Big East football schools (UConn & Villanova) the Big East can start sponsoring football once again, especially if the B.E. also adds a few more small private schools such as Tulane (New Orleans), SMU (Dallas), and Rice (Houston) Finally, have the Mountain West Conference pick up Oregon State & Washington State.

I hope they dont bother to get Clemson, FSU, or Miami. Let the SEC have them. They don't need them!!! They dont need them!!! Go get Cal and Standford, and you can force Notredame to join. You have almost all of their main rivals except Navy. You could simply say to Notre Dame if they do not join, USC, Standford, Michigan State, Michigan, Purdue, Indiana, and even Penn State will never play you. Notredame me fans care about those rivalries. There only traditional rivals not in the Big 10 would be Boston College and Navy. Not playing USC especially would make the fan base crazy. But Michigan State, Standford, and Michigan are serious rivalries as well. Purdue and Indiana are in their state. Penn State was once a rival as well. That would force Notredame to join the Big 10. And when Notredame decides to join, bring in Boston College with them. They would have the huge Boston Market, good academics, and another traditional Notredame rival, who is also a rival for Rutgers, Penn State, and Maryland. Finally, that Big 10 would stretch from the west to the East Coast. Yes, target the ACC, but why Clemson, Miami, and FSU????? None are a good fit. Going Northeast to get Syracuse and Boston College and forcing Notredames hand makes more sense. Play chess, not checkers! Chess players think moves ahead, while checkers players simply react. Not to mention, the Big 10 doesn't need Notredame. They would be an attractive addition and a perfect fit. However, the Big 10 has existed all these years without them. If they want to be stubborn, in fact stupid and not join, FUCKEM!!! Stop giving Notredame so much power and attention. The Big 10 has HUGE BRANDS. The Big 10 HOLDS ALL THE CARDS, not Notredame. Those wussies at the top are letting Notredame bitch slap them. I bet if they add Standford and tell Notredame that they aren't interested, Notredame would start chasing them. Just like a woman chases the man that doesn't chase her.
