My plan was to move abroad after retirement too. Sadly the 90 day rule means we can no longer sell up here and move. And owning a property abroad as well as here is unaffordable

Many years ago I bought a Triumph T509 Speed Triple because my girlfriend said she no longer wanted to ride pillion. Of course, as soon as I bought the bike she decided she DID want to ride pillion again, but found the standard seat to be like a mediaeval torture device. There's nothing you can't fix with a few chunks of foam, some vinyl, glue, and a heavy duty industrial stapler! Be good to see the old man back on the channel; apart from anything else, he makes me feel young! Huge thanks and best wishes to you both

Hi Darcy, the Fat Boy is beautiful! borrowed my mates some time ago which had stage 2 screamin eagle and V&H radius pipes, that thing would set car alarms off when you rode past. Sounded awsome though. As for the Guzzi V7 my son had one and it was a lovely, lovely, bike. It would be less than half the price of a new Fat Boy and infinately more chuckable ( not a word, I know). Sorry the YOUNG man's plans fell through but great to see him back . Hope to see you out on the lanes sometime. Best wishes, Paul.

I bought an Enfield 350 Classic a couple of months ago on the back of his review last year, going for the red chrome as opposed to the bronze he had. I have had 2 fat boys a 2010 and 2018. To me they ruined it by putting the massive tyres on as it does not handle as well as the old one. The looks are great but it doesn’t handle and doesn’t stop very well. The other problem is when you spend the best part of 25k you expect the finished article. But with HD that is where it starts you can easily spend another 10k on customisation and you get caught up in the whole image.

That Continental GT vs V7 comparison would be great to see! Those were the bikes I was really torn between for my first one. I ended up buying something completely different because I found a good deal, but I'm still interested to see how those two stack up to each other. The idea of upgrading the Softail also sounds fun, there's a million new bike day videos out there anyways, and selling it would mean taking that depreciation hit.

Get that Low Rider ST. It checks all the boxes and there's no faffing about with "needed" fixes. Or, if you really want to keep your bike, a 2 into 1, cam, and very slightly longer shock go a long way into improving power and handling. But as someone else said, you won't get any return from mods. As much as you like the Guzzi, your reaction the Harley in the distance says you're not going to enjoy the change. Not as much as you would like.

Maybe you should think about getting an older Harley (or other brand), perhaps even vintage (as in carburetor). It's an entirely different riding experience than what you are probably used to . . . and I think a much more gratifying one. But if speed and power is all you really care about, then perhaps not. Sorry to hear about the old man's plans all falling through. He seemed really excited about it. It's unfortunate.

So, the Softail is: expensive, and not as grunty as you want. I personally think you probably want it to be more like a LRS or LRST, so I would advise you to go try a 2006 or later Yamaha Warrior 1700, which has nearly identical geometry to the HD, more suspension travel, radial, R1-derived brakes, and a lighter frame. Arguably one of the best muscle/performance cruisers, which is why I think HD cribbed a bunch of geometry and specs from it. If the HD doesn't feel dramatically better, then you may have your next bike and have a great vehicle to compare to newer cruisers while making awesome content. You could also do what many tall people who want an inexpensive Evo-powered bike that handles well, and get a Buell. They are quite cheap in the UK. I also think you would love the overall packaging of the 2008 Roadster which gave you a big-tank Sportster with good handling, and proper brakes. I also think you would be well-suited to a Victory Octane which was the more-aggressive version of the Indian Scout. Put the factory tall-seat on one and have a blast. Or maybe go try a new V9 Guzzi and see if that tickles your fancy for way less than the cost of an HD. Maybe the BMW R12 with a seat that has been to a local seat-shop for some taller foam is where you want to hang your hat. Maybe try out a 2006 or 2007 VRSCR Street Rod. HD likes to pretend that these big liquid-cooled Revolution V-twins don't exist but they handle spectacularly, and make a great foundation for a build while being affordable.

I mostly agree with this. If you have to spend a bunch on the bike for you to love then it's probably not the bike for you. And as you pointed out it's lost money you will never see again. If you can't stay passionate about your bike then it's time to look for something that provides it. As a brand Guzzi does that for me. Always has.

I think this is not the best H-D for your particular geography; but, as far as owning it anyway, they’re fine and they get better and better with age of both owner and bike. Keeping one a very long time is very cool and a very different sort of reward. That H-D’s can run half a lifetime for sure is one of the best aspects of the rewards they provide owners. But, interestingly, Guzzi’s are “lifetime” sorts of bikes as well actually. Moto Guzzi ownership can also be the invariant as others come and go or just the one you need and that’s it. A Guzzi V7 850 Stone special and a RE 650 are not very similar - at all - but all comparisons of all motorcycles are fun, so why not. Still, it must be said, RE 650 and M-G 850 is a raisin and pineapples comparo, seriously. I have had a lot of motorcycles, 32 to be precise, as have many here. Currently I have a newer generation Moto Guzzi, bought new and now 5 yr old, and it is like having a really good dog. Wonderful.

Good to hear about the Ol man. I've been around for a little bit, I think you guys had sometime like 20K subscribers. I'm looking to get my first bike as I passed the CBT not long ago and I've been looking for a bike for 3K or below. Unfortunately it seems second hand bikes where I am aren't particularly cheap, though I know 125s seem to hold value well. I was thinking between two options the MT-125 or the CB125F. I've taken a look around at MTs but they don't seem to be as many of them, probably because they cost 5K new as opposed to 3K for the CBF. I was wondering if you knew much about the CBF's? I was struggling to find a decent looking zero issues CB125F for anything around 2K or less and for this reason all the better options were around 2.7-2.8K at which point for a few hundred more I might as well get one new. Unfortunately someone shot my party down by telling me that a lot of the new Honda bikes, more specifically the 125s aren't made in Japan or Europe for that reason. Apparently a lot of them are made in China now. A friend said his was stamped Italy but someone else I spoke to said theirs was made in China. I spoke to my nearest Honda dealer who went off to check but apparently it "didn't have a label", so I'm guessing he wanted to avoid admitting it? I spoke to another Honda dealer and he said some of the bikes they have are made in Vietnam. I'm kinda worried about buying a Chinese made motorcycle as I was told to avoid them all by any means. I know my brothers friend got a LexMoto and had nothing but issues. Wondering if you could give me some insight? Would very much be appreciated. Also, funnily enough the first Honda dealer I spoke to also shot my idea of getting a Royal Enfield down. I never mentioned the brand BTW. He said that they weren't very good because they're made in India and he said that getting parts of the bikes are a pain and take a long time as well as apparently they're renowned for having issues. I remember him mentioning vibrations as one of the problems.

The bad reputation of Chinese bikes really comes from the knock off copies and cheap lookalikes. I very much doubt a company as reputable as Honda would stand for inferior manufacturing, so I would say that it is likely to be as good as any Honda made elsewhere 👍🏼

It always depends on how much you want spend, I'm sure the Motoguzzi is a nice bike but ill take a wild stab at this that you will get bored with it comparably speaking, cam your bike with a proper tune and two into one exhaust, it will still putt around, sound great and it will rip, but there is a sea of cams out there, choose one for your type of riding and area that you predominately ride, that's the advantage of owning a Harley

Then he would be just like everyone else in the UK. I suspect Darcy wants to be different. No slam on Triumph cuz they are a good bike but they are a dime a dozen in your neck of the woods. If he wants to go British Strong he should buy the Norton.
