I'm surprised Beverly even cared about Leonard getting married cuz it never seemed like they had a real mother son relationship. she viewed him more as an experiment during most of his life. it's crazy to me that Penny actually had a bonding moment with her before Leonard did. She just doesn't like when the consequences of her coldness reflect badly on her. Penny is emotionally healthy & as such, wants a connection with her mother-in-law. Because she loves Leonard and she wants to have a relationship with his mother. I'm sure you've heard the saying, "when you marry someone, you also marrying their family." Penny considers Beverly her family now and she wants Beverly to reciprocate. I think it speaks volumes about the kind of person Penny is because there's so many wives out there who do not have a good relationship with their mother-in-laws. The fact that Penny wants to try to connect with Beverly goes to show how good of a wife she is to Leonard.

It's called being respectful and being matured. As that may affect your children growing up. This is also a gesture of how much you love the person as not only you love the person you would be with but also with their baggages both good and bad. This is also beneficial on hard times as your in laws could help or if something was to happen to you tragically they can take care of you or your kids. Broken family majority of them struggles more vs you having a support so you have more time to bond vs wasting all the effort trying to be so successful. They can also be your caretaker for pets or during your schooling.

The reason Penny wanted to get close to Beverly, was because she’s slowly becoming like her. She treats Leonard like SHIT. She got rid of his stuff without asking, and also manipulated him CONSTANTLY in the last four seasons. The main problem with the show, is that Chuck Lorre never bothers to write SITUATIONAL COMEDY, and relies too much on stupid jokes that AREN’T funny. The last four seasons were tainted with TAAHM humor; that’s why Leonard and Penny were BASICALLY Alan and Lyndsey.

The title is wrong in the context of this particular scene, but it's funny how, overall, it's true that Penny had a 10x better relationship with Sheldon's mother than Leonard's mom. Remember the episode when Penny took Sheldon to Disneyland? It was only season 3, and already then, in this episode, it was said that Sheldon's mom calls Penny when the issue is Sheldon. Also, I think that the fact that Penny was a down-to-earth small-town girl from Nebraska, and Mary was from Medford - a small town in Texas, helped with their connection. Although Mary & Penny had their obvious differences, when it came to lifestyle or approach to sex, they were still closer to each other than Penny and Beverly. Beverly was a cold intellectual, she was the opposite of Penny, they never had a good relationship, except for some short-lived moments like here. It's funny to think that if Penny and Sheldon were together, and married, Penny would like her mother-in-law.

The thing about these people, brilliant geniuses that know too much to a fault, is that they operate on the most logical sense of any decision making. They'll easily make the hardest choicest any human has to make if the pros outweigh the cons. It doesn't mean they won't feel hurt about their decisions, and sometimes they may have a hard time expressing it, but they aren't immune to basic human emotions. The title really makes me think that it's either AI that's writing the title or somehow they hired the extremely rare person who has never watched the show. We all know that it's Leonard's mom but the dual g only mentioned Sheldon and Howard with the most focus on Amy and Sheldon's relationship.
