Hey Clive, this was a really entertaining review of a Lithuanian Dry Food Ration. They are affordable, relatively easy to get, and quite delicious! My favorite menu is #4 - Pork with groats. The chocolate is amazing, good coffee, and the biscuits are hardy with a nice caraway seed flavor. For a single meal, they contain approx 1,400-1,500 calories.. quite filling! 10 different menus. You mention the Flameless Ration Heater looking like it was going to blow up. I had this happen one time with a Lithuanian Ration.. didn't leave a small opening on a corner of the FRH. So it blew up.. and of all places at a gun show. That was exciting. Thanks for the shoutout! And I'd love to see you explore some more military rations! This was awesome.

Since it takes the video down , and since youtube is fucking stupid and does NOT give you strikes for abusing it . The same strikes system should work for the DMCA claim as well as the hit. But then pretty much any major publisher would get there account banned every 3 hours or so :P.
@SianaGearz7 жыл бұрын
Andrew, there's a huge error in your suggestion. When you're filed against, it's your channel that gets a strike. However when you file against someone... you don't have to use the same account as the one you post content from - you don't even have to be a KZbinr, you could be someone who publishes his videos elsewhere. Also since protecting your copyright, such as by filing a DMCA is your legal right, they can't restrict it by disabling your account or preventing you from sending further DMCA requests. Having established that you can't revoke DMCA rights, say you revoke video hosting privilege for someone who has been seen DMCA abusing... but then you have a near impossibility of reliably establishing which accounts actually belong to the same person or organisation or entity, with all the ambiguity that it entails.

I'd like to make a note for the reason the drink mix tastes "watered down," when being drunk during hiking or other long periods of exercise the high quantities of sodium and electrolytes, in particular in those drink mixes (gatorade, Powerade, and other instant "energy" powder mixes) can lead to vomiting, if mixed at "full strength" in the case of that packet 300 ml of water. Which when in the field or on a trail is never a good thing cause that leads to dehydration and other nasty things.

At least in the U.S. Military; MRE does mean, Meal Ready to Eat. Have eaten many, and the cases say "Meals Ready to Eat". The Flame-less Ration Heater, contains: powdered magnesium metal, alloyed with a small amount of iron, and table salt. Clive it also releases large amounts of Hydrogen! I was scared when you were lighting the match! U.S. Patent 5,611,329 uses a powdered magnesium-iron alloy, consisting of 95 % magnesium and 5 % iron by weight, and discloses a heater consisting of 7.5 grams of this alloy, and 0.5 grams of salt. Upon adding 30 milliliters of water, this mixture can heat a 230 gram meal packet by 100 °F in about 10 minutes, releasing approximately 50 kilojoules of heat energy at about 80 watts.

@Dazzwidd5 жыл бұрын
When you follow the instructions, you are actually shorting out a lithium battery pack to heat your meal
@lloydevans29005 жыл бұрын
If anyone wants to know about the chemical agent inside the heating packet, it's actually not far off a short-circuited battery. If you open one up, you'll find a mixture of salt (just normal table salt) with some metallic granules, which are an alloy of magnesium with a small amount of iron. Separate pieces of magnesium and iron would make an electrochemical cell with an open-circuit voltage of 1.9 volts, but since the two metals are alloyed together, each particle is essentially a short-circuited cell, regardless of size. When you soak the packet with water, the salt dissolves to make an electrolyte, activating all the tiny cells. A big block of the same alloy would react in the same way, just slower - so small granules increase the rate of reaction, allowing for rapid heat production. The net reaction is water oxidising magnesium, releasing hydrogen in the process. The gas release is why the packet expands before the water gets hot enough to boil, though of course it does eventually start releasing steam as well.

I had a heating bag from an mre rupture once. It wasn't a very exciting bang, but it did ruin most of my food when the water went everywhere.

When I was a lorry driver, I used to collect / deliver these types of ration packs. for UK and other nations Army's from a packing factory in Kent :) and one place i used to deliver to they had a mini museum of ration packs from different era's. it was quite interesting.

Seeing how hot that package was getting, "explosion containment" might have been a wise choice!

My grandfather emigrated to New Zealand after WW2, from Lithuania. From what little he told us of the war, I'll bet that MRE would have been one hell of a treat.

The plastic bag you used to heat the meal is called a FRH, or Flame-less Ration Heater. As for the long handled spoons from £land, I use them as teaspoons, because I have a tall mug.

Fun tip... put an open flame to the steam vented from the packet when open... if it's like the US ones... keep a slight distance... hand length is fine.

Not sure if buying MREs out Ebay is a good idea, but then again steve eats stuff 50-70 years old and he is still fine.
@brandonfireking76557 жыл бұрын
yeah the expanding from the steam is exactly why i never actually seal it back completely, also its wise to not inhale the steam if you're in an enclosed room. Not sure why, just a hint i was told by a recruiter with no explaination. The little 'stove' with heaters is pretty neat and not something i've seen in any US ones.

People say the packs release hydrogen so if they're right "no fire" might be a better advice.

So, who is used to watching ration reviews and when Clive put the FRH in the box and pointed it at himself, thought to themselves "You sir have 45seconds till you become extremely alarmed...." and then when it really gets going, Clives reaction. I friggin lost it!!! HAHAHAHAH!!! I laughed so friggin hard!!! This is awesome!! :-D I really needed this video tonight too.

in the really old packets you get cigarettes and amphetamine 😌
@m.k.81587 жыл бұрын
Actually, you would not find Amphetamines in a MRE, at least in most countries-more likely in a survival ration...

I believe BigClive is Manx? We never know for sure. It's sort of strange, the Isle of Man has around 85,000 people and 1 in 8 of those are in banking, mostly overseas banking. Who knows where BigClive has stashed his billions?

I'm sure you're well aware, Clive, but for those who aren't. You need to be careful when you smack your finger hard enough to cause a blood blister underneath, because there is a risk that the nail will eventually fall off. This DOESN'T hurt at all, apart from looking and feeling a bit gross. When the nail grows back, take care that it doesn't ingrow, clipping the edges of it if it looks like it may do. For me I didn't have that problem, I just watched the nail grow back over several weeks. An alternative to save the nail, is to heat the tip of a needle with a lighter, rest it on the nail over the blood, and let it melt its way through. You may have to repeat this process a few times but eventually it will break through and the blood will shoot out (no kidding). I'm told this is not a painful process, but I haven't tried it. This is only necessary if you want to save the nail. Otherwise wait for the nail to fall off, if it does, and for it to regrow. The skin under where the nail was will not be all that tender, only if the nail was ripped off, not if it fell off. Ok, I'm done dispensing off topic advice no one cares about. P.S. Clive's current injury is nowhere near big enough for the nail to fall off. If the whole thing, or a large part of it was black from blood, then expect the nail to start lifting as the... glue? that holds it on, fails due to the blood contamination, at which point it will fall off, and grow anew.
@bigclivedotcom7 жыл бұрын
I've had the full black nail experience in the past and made the mistake of "helping" the old nail off a bit too early and was rewarded with a jet of blood.
