FINALLY! Ultimate Guide to Troubleshooting any Sony LED TV with a blink code. KD-60X690E 6 Blinks.

Step by Step detailed troubleshooting procedure to start eliminating boards on any Sony TV that has a Blink Code Error. We have a Sony LED TV model Kd-60x690e with no picture and the standby light at the bottom turns from green to a red blinking light that blinks 6 times and cycles through a 6 times blink error code with a 3-5 second pause in between cycles.
This is a detailed troubleshooting procedure that works on any Sony LCD television. The key here is that Sony televisions do a self-check at plug in, so when the TV then is attempted to be powered on; the standby light actually turns green and tries to power up for about 15 seconds until the TV realizes
there is a problem and then shuts down giving a blinking error code on the front of the television. During the Green light stage you have an opportunity to check critical common voltages like LED+ and LED- voltage's, Back Light ON, 12 Volt rails, BL ERR, etc. If a voltage is missing, fluctuating, or way off; then you can pretty much pin point which board the error is coming from. It doesn't matter if you have 6 blinks, 4 blinks, 2 blinks, etc. You still have approximately the same amount of time to make checks before the standby light starts flashing red again.

At 23:30 is where you missed the clue: The B+ was running at 160+ volts. You read 63 volts on the return (B-) you should have been reading almost ground or about .7 volts above ground on B-. You read 63 volts since each diode has a forward drop even in an open circuit which is what you had. The B- is typically pulled down via transistor or FET and the B+ then adjusted to reach the proper current. Some TVs pulse width modulate the B+ to achieve this - some feeedback bias the base on the B+ power. But in you case you should have been reading about .7 volts above ground on the B- instead it was floating to the B+ minus all the forward LED drops. Nevertheless this was an awesome breakdown and THANK YOU. Subscribed!!!

Hi great video and good info. but my question is have you done a Sony with back light LD board which has more LED wires than just 2 wires for the entire tv? I have a Sony 65X950G got Sony and android logo but then 4 blink red. I just want to confirm it is not any other boards other than the LED before taking it apart. any way to confirm or double check if it is the mainboard or LED board. I don't think the power supply board is the issue as I get all the 3.3v and 12v and I press power I get the Tcon 12v thanks

Hi thanks for the video. I replaced my power supply on the kd60x690e 6 months ago and it worked great and then seems to have fried again. I have another power supply board to install and was wondering if maybe I did something wrong when I originally replaced it. Is there any tips to avoid this or is it just poor quality parts?

If it has the 6 blinks then its probably faulty led strips. Watch part 2.

That set has one big series string led circuit and when one goes out all goes out. The led tester supplies a much higher voltage but limited current that temporarily arc welds a carbon track across any open junction and creates a temporary complete circuit that won't last. I do this with my old sencore capacitor leakage tester it can supply from 3 to 600 volts leakage test voltage😁. Very good trouble shooting big man👍. I'm an old TV repairman that managed to survive. Now if I can get SONY replacement main boards to accept their software. I have an account with SONY and I get the software from the right place but some main boards will not accept the software no matter what I do grrr. I wish they supply boards with software already in because if you have for example a bad panel or T-con it can possibly prevent software from going in the new main board and you can't tell if its the new board or if you have two problems along with a bad main board. Sometimes it goes in sometimes not then you have to go into the service mode and transfer the data from the T-con to the new main board. I hate SONY. They're the best PERFORMING TV but a pain in the butt for a repairman. Their warranty service policies suck and REQUIRE too much from an underpaid repair tech and they don't pay enough money for what they require me to do. I can do what they want but its too much.I hope they go out of business soon If they do I will celebrate

Big dog, I have A Sony XBR75 X 910C, I have the 4 blink error code. What is the cost to replace LED strips considering I can find new replacements? This TV has great picture and 3D so I believe repairing is worth it. Thanks much Andy

Great Video as always - thanks! I have a similar Sony model KD49X7000D which does not have the blinking red light issue but has developed very noticeable purple blotches over sections of the screen. These seem to have spread over the past 18 months. The screen itself turns on fine. I think the actual LED strips need replacing. Does that sound like I'm on the right track? Thanks again.

Isn a much easier and simpler way to check led's without any voltmeter or led tester is to place tv down safely on screen, remove cover, plug in and turn tv on, look for steel case vent holes and see if led's are on. If lights are bright, it's not led strips, if off amd code blinking 6 times then you can assume it needs led's . Then check supply voltage at led supply and see if led's come on if they do, then check voltage at power board. If no voltage at power board then you got a burnt power supply. I do agree you should also be connecting voltmeter in series at led pig tail connector, and voltage at led's. Always double check because you could potentially have multiple failures

I've had mine since September of 2018. Only issue is that sometimes it won't display a picture when I turn it on with the Sync up with my PS5. Easy solution is to turn the TV off either by the remote or by unplugging it and plug it back in. As when I say it won't display is that it turns and the screen is on but no picture and I'm not able to use the remote sometimes which is why I unplug it. I'm not gonna get rid of it unless need be but for now I'm keeping it. I honestly don't care about tech that much but it was the size and features like 4K, UltraHDR and Smart LED which this TV has. The only issue I have is that you can't find it anywhere because of that planned obsolescence of retailers and online shopping. Let alone I've tried before even on KZbin to even find more about it while looking for the best picture quality for gaming and whatever else. Which I believe I have had gotten by different videos using a different Sony TV and I haven't touched it besides getting the right amount of color and brightness out.

After my attempts to find a solution. This one had a sneaky little problem with the wires that connects to the led. They are pulled so tight that connections become lose.

Sony is crap, they are famous for their disabling software on their tv’s. Even though there is an issue the tv can still function albeit with maybe a dimmer picture, dark area or android software issue or voltage drop on power but Sony makes sure the TV locks up to blank screen, rendering it useless intentionally until serviced or new tv purchased. My 2nd Bravia lasted only 2 1/2 years and the first only 3. My old LGs, both are going strong at over 8 years. Never buy Sony TV they scam you. Can you imagine if a vehicle manufacturer did this? Car disables itself if the tail lights go out or the AC cut out? The BL_err bypass hack on the TV’s prove they can still function.
