Is it Worth the Money? Kicker KXA2400.1 2400W Amp Review and Test

Today we are taking a closer look at the most powerful amplifier in Kicker's current lineup (as of September 2020), the KXA2400.1. This is a 2400W amplifier that may have slipped your radar. This amp is rated to deliver:
1200W at 4 ohms
2400W at 2 ohms
2400W at 1 ohm (plus/minus 10%)
The amp retails for $999 and although that may sound pricey, it's competitor the Rockford Fosgate T2500.1BDcp goes for $1599. Kicker engineers and designs their amps in house while final assembly is completed in China. These amps are a unique design and we'll find out how well they did during the tests. We will also dive deeper into the Bluetooth remote and it's functions. Is it really worth the money or should you look elsewhere? Let's watch together to find out...

I was looking into this amp a while back because I wanted an amp that would put out 2400w rms at both 1 and 2 ohms so I would get more output after impedance rise. I reached out to kicker and got the same results. Yes, it's a great amp but it wouldn't work for my needs and my subs so I asked if they had any amps that were capable of doing what I wanted and sure enough, they did. The CXA1200.1T and the CXA1800.1T both put out rms at 1 and 2 ohms so I ended up going with 2 1200.1Ts and I couldn't be happier! Unless of course they make them 1200w rms at 4 ohms as well in the next gen 😝 would love to hear your thoughts Big D

@@robertstafford7588 or you can wire a decent Korean half bridge to .5ohm (Wolfram & Apex) for $199-249 And it will see about 1.2-1.3ohm after rise. Give you rated power all day.

Kicker is such an awesome company. I bought a broken kx1200.1 from eBay to fix and sell. Some components where burnt so bad. I decided to contact Kicker by email and was shocked at their service. They went above and beyond to give me the parts number and also recommended to upgrade some known bad parts. I decided to keep the amp because they gave me great service and I like how the amp bumps. I think it's been over 5 years and the amp still works great.

Kicker amps when tested were underrated by the factory since the day they came out. I heard it hundreds of times the amps performed higher than rated. Good to see they haven’t changed their ways, and you always get what you pay for. MTX were always good also, and the notorious original mtx “red” amp was an awesome unit, and stable at 1 ohm back around 1990.

As far as kicker goes I will tell you their customer service is 💯 I had bough a 12” L7q class back in 2017 had and issue with it made a RMA request in 2018 and forgot to send it out the warranty was for 3 years on the warranty was expiring in 7 days when I got around to sending it out they replaced the 🔊 no questions ask and had it shipped to me within 5 days (even though they were sold out)I would recommend any one to buy from kicker with 100% confidence they stand behind their product and honer their warranty.

Back in 1993 my Grandma passed. I was super depressed and mom wanted to cheer me up. We went to Kicker in Stillwater because I wanted to see the factory. Never got to take a tour, but got a pic of myself outside the factory. Still, and always will be a huge Kicker fan. One day I will go back, I only live in Wichita ks. Still a dream of mine. Grandma always got me Car Audio and Electronics mags that I never wrinkled. Life, long, obsession.

The remote is amazing, I run a KXA800.5 and a KXA400.1 and the wireless remote controls both (sub channel only on the 800.5) beautifully. It fits perfectly in my center channel without rattling around and it works like a charm. My only gripe: you will know when it's time to change the battery, so keep a spare handy.

Another thing to note people... these Kicker KXA amps have a DSP chip controlling the crossover functions and bass EQ etc. This is very useful as you do not have the audio signal traveling through the potentiometers on the control panel. The potentiometers are likely only sending a signal telling the digital DSP chip its settings. I love this idea as it will result in the best audio quality for your input/crossover section without having super fancy polypropylene capacitors and burr brown op amps, all that stuff. And then the power output and efficiency is even cooler.. i bought a KXA1200 after seeing this. Its amazing!!

Still using my KXA1200 a year later. I love it more each day, looking to upgrade to KXA2400 - ive tried other amps and these damn things sound good... they just sound really good. Them cheap brazilian taramps get loud, but it doesnt have the dynamic punches like these kickers have.. something just built better with these.

Can't wait to install my kxa2400.1 and kxa400.4 amps. Upgraded to a mean green alternator and got an nvx 10 farad capacitor since I don't have room for an extra battery unless I mount one in the bed. 84% effeciency will be much better than my current amp at 64% effeciency

Those KX amps have elite pedigree. That efficiency is thanks to a dc to dc boost converter. The Warhorse had that tech i believe. And since you're not changing current types, the heat sink doesn't need to be as big either. Couple that with excellent woofer cone control and you've got a winner every time. Absolutely love the KICKER amps!

Kicker has always made some really nice amplifiers. I'm glad to see they still do today. Awesome power and efficiency, especially at 1 ohm. Very nice! kicker kinda suprised me with this! I saw BigD recently test an Orion that put out wayyy over its rated RMS. To this day Kicker continues to be an innovator in the industry. Many commonplace features found in subs worldwide were being utilized by kicker decades ago. Bumped back plates, stitched surrounds, inverted dustcaps, one piece bottom plate/pole piece (i think that's their Uniplate patent), square woofer cones - all of em were used together to make Kicker one of THE top brands in car audio

Good to see they did their homework and actually optimized the output impedance for around 2Ohms for good efficiency at the lower 2 and 1Ohm loads. Most other ones seem to only do ok-ish at 4Ohms and go down from there.

Man, the "Made in China" thing is bugging me too! But, I will admit, Kicker does have a very unique design under the hood, and it is an expensive design. However, it'd be better if it wasn't made in a Communist country that considers USA it's enemy. Maybe Thailand, Taiwan or Vietnam. They don't point nukes at us. Nonetheless, an impressive amp and still built well.

My Kicker rep told me they're slowly pulling out of China due to the tariffs, but that it's something that can't be done overnight with a company of that size. We'll see what's up in another year or two.

@@Slip_The_Jab So is Rockford and about 2/3rd of JL. The key is that Kicker's and JL's designs are 100% theirs (unsure on Rockford) and they do state-side quality control. Big difference from bottom-tier brands that just move the boxes.

I would pay more for a high quality US made amp, even at the same rating. We need to start making our own stuff again. It’s better for Americans and the environment. The shipping back and forth from China is the largest polluter in the world.

Even if it were made here, there would still be shipping to and from China as that is where the majority of raw materials come from, plus, I'm certain they sell a fair number of products in China. It would not make any sense to ship the components over (and pay the tariffs) , make the amp here at higher labor rates and then ship the completed amps back (and pay the tariffs).

i think mmats are the only one making class d amps in the us. the rest are a and ab amps. d amore engineering has a 1500 watt 2 channel amp around $8k that pretty cheap compare to tru technology which only does custom made amps starting around $15k

I've never been around a TRU product, and I'm still a holdout on the class D even if they have come a long way. The owner of LP is the only owner I've personally spoken with, and man will he spend some time with a customer answering and explaining.

I have the KXA800.5, it does the job but I added a KXA400.1 and split my subs between them and it's perfect for me. I would be fine with 800W RMS on the 5th channel if it fit in a chassis the same size as the KXA2400.1.

Great amp of course it's a kicker it does exactly what it's supposed to do and more however the average Joe does not want to spend 1K on an amplifier. Not everybody is wattage hungry or Addicted To Bass. Are they going to sell more units now absolutely yes. Normally I find after Big D talks positive about a particular product the price goes up instantly on Amazon and other websites. That's the downside for knowing the truth🙈🙉🙊

I had mine on 2 L7 15s at 1 ohm and they took it like a champ! Really impressed me for some kickers I honestly thought they would blow but they never got warm or stinky

I'm not surprised by your test results. I have a KXA 800.5 in my car and I love it. The wireless remote is so much nicer than a wired one but the battery only lasted 6 months for me not 2 years like they claim so keep spares.

I've installed 4 of these now for friends I am absolutely satisfied with this amplifier an that's not easy to do. It's a great looking amp and it's a absolute beast when it comes to power output. It will run 2 kicker square 15s all day plus some. The bluetooth control for this amp is unreal it still blows my mind everytime I use it. First time I've ever seen one with a amp. I like the fact that when you set everything up theres a indicator light on the knob that when you turn up the indicator light will tell you when your going into a clipped signal. This is a game changer for installers. I install one set it up then I'm able to tell them do not go into the red. That keeps people from being in the trunk messing with stuff they shouldn't be. It will most likely save alot of subwoofers from death due to deciding they know what there doing lol. Highly recommend. Great sounding strong product. Kicker has always had the best customer service and always takes care of any issues even though I have only had 2 issues in 15 years if that tells you anything about the quality
