Your impact on my perspective regarding tool watches has been significant. Whenever the term "tool watch" is mentioned, your influence resonates deeply within me. I've come to the realization that, in my view, a true tool watch ought to be priced under $50 to embody its functional essence, distinguishing itself from being perceived merely as a piece of jewelry. So pleased to have you back

The most insightful watch prediction video😊

Great video, and it’s nice that you’re back. Don’t you think the graph should be turned around? The peak of big watches might have been around 10 years ago, and smaller watches are just making a return.

My prediction one : brands such as Lorier and Traska will grow, when enthusiasts realize an €8000 Omega/IWC/Breitling is a €3000 watch with €1000 distribution cost and €4000 ad and marketing budget My prediction two : Adrian Barker from BarkandJack will leave the watch space, as he has nothing more to say, and become a full time videographer because he is good at it My prediction three : the current GMT craze will end soon, as no one, except for professional travelers, needs a GMT watch and the additional maintenance costs no one has yet seen coming.

Very well said especially the first paragraph.

Great video as usual, I agree with the predictions, with the exception that I think the design trend will be primarily inspired by the 1980s, which I feel like we are already starting to see.

Great vid Pete, love your graphs. Bring back the 70's man. More dress watches with style, wunderbar. Pete, I know your not a dress watch guy, however if you were to buy now what 3 dress watches or styles do you like? Regards, Starlight

hey chris, today I like: Chopard LUC 1860 (though I'd refer it a little bigger, 38-39 instead of 36.5) Patek 5224R and money no object..... Bulgari Serpenti made for me and my 8in wrist.

So, as the gender binary breaks down, gender expression, along with pronouns, becomes more fluid, the effect trickles down to watches. People started saying a couple of years ago, "all watches are unisex," but I think it was Jenni Elle who said, just saying it doesn't make it true. Now that the aspiration will come to fruition. The trend to dress watches is just a corollary. Tool watches are inherently gendered masculine, big, rugged, utilitarian. I think tool watches were always cosplay, jewelry for men, but covertly, by pretending they were tools and not just for show. Dress watches just make the jewelry aspect explicit.

agree - Jenni, Cara a bunch of people made that pronouncement a year or so back but I didnt really believe it then. Now we are starting to see historically feminine cues in otherwise masculine coded watches I think we are closing in.
@WeibenWang9 ай бұрын
As I remember it, somebody like Jack Forster said all watches are unisex, and Jenni said, well no, not really, just go to any brand's website and there are clearly manly watches and girly watches, and there weren't may place for women to go who didn't want girly, but also didn't want oversized men's watches. Now maybe unisex is becoming a real thing, and not just something men say to look egalitarian.

I've never understood the smartwatch. Dont you have to have your phone in your pocket? What's the appeal?
@PeteMcConvill9 ай бұрын
for me its the sensors - the watch as a wearable rather than a carriable can record and transmit info my phone cant - its a peripheral of my EDC computing, not a replacement.
@rickfowler37109 ай бұрын
What do you mean by sensors? Sorry I'm not familiar with the functions of a smart watch. Practically, how does it improve the functionality of a phone apart from being easier to glance at? and what is the info it can "record and transmit" that your phone cannot?@@PeteMcConvill

UV so will give warnings of dangerous sun conditions - super important in Oz, the obvious heartrate, steps, O2 sat, ecg anomolies - all the exercise stuff stuff as well plus all the sleep stuff; deep sleep, REM, HRV. Given Im middleaged with (now) a cardiac history these are important - in fact it was noticing a change in my HR over time I recorded while wearing my garmin that lead to a doctors appointment which lead to some tests and finding I had multiple 95%+ cardiac blockages and now have 5 stents . Also means I can stash the phone in a back, bike jersey pocket, etc nice and out of the way but still control spotify, screen calls, pay at shops.
@rickfowler37109 ай бұрын
Interesting. I can see why that would be of interest to some. I don't know about it becoming a larger trend though. If you have a need for these functions then you probably already own one at this point. Maybe you're right though. Good to see you back Pete@@PeteMcConvill

When an old fart like me is double wristing (left hand watch, right hand device) then it's not a trend. It's passe and perhaps too dull to even be normal😄 Limited production targeted at (known or VIP) customers through boutiques is something that Omega, as an example, have been doing for a while now. Express interest, get on a list and be patient. Your watch will show up eventually.
@richardbartlett69329 ай бұрын
I instantly dismiss any watch irrespective of who what where under 40mm.
@borassictime9189 ай бұрын
Then again is it a valid assumption that the popularity of oversized (larger) watches WILL return to the exclusion of smaller watches (if you really think a 39mm watch is ‘small’ 🤔)? In other words fashion trends do not necessarily cycle, neither are the folks at Fratello a representative sample of watch buyers. ☺️ You’ll be waiting a long time for stone-washed high-waste jeans to make a comeback. I have a couple of kipper ties unlikely to see use ever again 😂😂😂 It might be equally valid to suppose that mechanical watch sales in total will fall so heavily to post-quartz-crisis levels that only the most popular and niche will survive, which may be supported by your point #6. What if ‘this brand’ totally stalls, not least because the price of big brand watches are SO high - I’m not convinced big brands can simply copy the microbrand model because the price points and fixed/variable costs are so different. One thing I’m certain about; I will NEVER wear a diamond-encrusted watch, nor ‘double-wrist’ ANYTHING! 😆😂🤣
@PeteMcConvill9 ай бұрын
throwing fashion broader is difficult because its not an either/or but for watch sizing its (almost) either one (big) or the other (small). although in truth it is a little more complex because there's nothing stopping a brand making two, three or even four sizes.
