Just a heads up, making Yoshi unable to eat the dolphins wasn't a censorship issue. They changed it because if you nommed too many dolphins, you could end up with none to use a platform and softlock yourself. They fixed this for the GBA release, so tuna got put back on the menu.

while the comments about lin being 13 are justified i think the protests were more about the multiple kinds of censorship that was going on at the time and when you add on that the character was supposed to be 15 according to some translations which was changed to justify it in the west? it was not a good look overall, on either side, but i think i will agree with the Anti-Censors on the main point "if its in the game natively why go through all the extra effort and cost just to remove it for 'global standards' especially if that will piss off your fans?"

@@random-boi2000 Lin Lee from Xenoblade, around 13 minutes or so in the video to hear some of the controversy. a lot of it though was, as i said, the big N pushing so much censorship at the time and in only the western versions when it isn't something that (in the original contexts, not the localizer ones) isn't that big a deal. after years of Nintendo's nonsense it was just the straw that broke the camels back ultimately. (edit just to say see "Fire Emblem "..." controversy, C&D of Pokemon Comics/Flash Artists and the active scrubbing of entire game modes from titles at the time if you want to know the other things that were building the protests.)

In Link's Awakening is a second case of censorship: in the original Link finds a bikini top to return to a mermaid. It got censored to a necklace. The reference that the mermaid is pissed off and swims away when Link dives close to her are still in the game, though...

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this already, but in Super Smash Bros Melee, they didn't just change a trophy. The seal enemies from Ice Climbers were actual enemies in the Melee adventure mode (and even could be found inside crates in regular matches). So yes, those had to be changed into the yeti-like Topi creatures as well.

I felt so disturbed and disgusted when people were threatening Nintendo of Japan over that 13-year-old outfit. I'm sure some legitimately just don't want censorship at all and some just think it's ridiculous to get rid of an outfit for any character at all especially since they're allowing undies for the other characters, but the fact is the girl is 13 years old for crying out loud She shouldn't have even had that outfit in the first place. There actually was some censorship with Duck Hunt, but it wasn't within the game, it was with the hardware. See, at least here in the U.S., there was a law passed that stated fake guns needed to look fake. Most commonly, companies that still wanted their toy guns to mostly look real would just put an orange tip at the end of the barrel (I believe this applies to discontinued real guns as well). Nintendo simply changed their gray Zapper into an orange Zapper. Problem solved. I guess you did kinda show that, but just in case someone was wondering why some of the old Zappers are gray, and others are orange, now you know.

Xc2 had almost no censorship. Only one heat to heart was censored but it is still pretty suggestive and the Japanese version is much more blatant. Xc3 didn't even need to be censored on the first place which is why there isn't any. Xcx is probably the most censored game I've ever seen. Lin in particular because she's a 13 year old and something ironic about Lin is she's 4 ft tall and she's a tank. There was also one male or it fit censored for whatever reason and an image somewhere censored. I'm still waiting on a remake or x2. I rhoe the release gears or saga on switch at some point

On the subject of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, I'm surprised you didn't mention the controversy surrounding Vivian, who was a transgender female in the Japanese version but was changed to a cis female in the American version. Her sister would even insult her by calling her a man in the Japanese version, whereas in the American version she would just call her ugly. Also, with the dolphins in SMW, I feel like it was changed more due to the fact that the dolphins aren't enemies, so it can kinda be seen as the player attacking passive, innocent creatures unlike the other creatures who are enemies actively trying to attack Mario.
