(Ryan shazier the steeler at 9:18 story about his spinal surgery which almost lead to being completely paralyzed.) Almost three years ago, Shazier could only hope to enjoy such a moment after he lowered his head to make a hit on Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Josh Malone, then fell to the turf. He was immobilized on a board by trainers before being taken to a hospital. A few days later, he underwent spinal stabilization surgery, at which point it was not certain that he would ever walk again. It wasn’t until the following February that Shazier began to regain movement in his legs. From there he began to notch inspiring milestones, including walking onto the field at Cincinnati’s Paul Brown Stadium, where he was injured 10 months earlier, and dancing with his new bride during his May 2019 wedding. By June of last year, the two-time Pro Bowl honoree was talking of a return to football, in a bid to “make the Hall of Fame.” On Wednesday, though, Shazier said via his Twitter account that he was “here to let the world know that today I am officially retiring from the game I love so much.” Almost three years ago, Shazier could only hope to enjoy such a moment after he lowered his head to make a hit on Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Josh Malone, then fell to the turf. It's pretty good. Might use a 5-second fadeout between clips audio fade also. Really nice the work you've done here, SBS.

I love football. At 73, it has been a life-long passion both as a player and watcher. But, I have no interest in watching this as we now know the ramifications of these kinds of hits. I am so happy we've progressed past this.

Lose the hard helmets, replace with soft helmets like are used for boxing. These hard helmets cause more injury than they avoid.
@brendoon68566 жыл бұрын
this might be one of the stupidest comments i've ever seen. softer helmets would lead to skull on skull collisions if hit hard enough.
@kestralblue15596 жыл бұрын
brendoon no for that very reason, players wouldn't lead with their head as they would not have the protection to do so. You don't see head to head tackles in other contact sports that lack helmets.
@SkinnyCow.6 жыл бұрын
heads are not used like battering rams in rugby because there are no helmets.
