Warming up with your team helps settle nerves (for me at least). I ran distance but that time before the race when I was with a few other teammates helped ease my nerves and mind. We could talk about the race, strategy, how we felt or just talked about anything. Not everything has to be done alone. With track I get that it’s an individual sport but warming up with my team made the stress of race days more enjoyable.

@Roach9373 One minute per heat can add up to over an hour over the course of the whole meet. And no, distance runners don’t take up that much time. We normally runners actually do our warmups several minutes BEFORE the race, not as we’re walking to our lanes. Also, the 3200 is usually towards the end of the meets, so all the sprinters and jumpers can go home if they want so they don’t have to watch a boring 12 minute race.
@shoppingfeind097 ай бұрын
@Roach9373no bro do you do track? If you’re in blocks correctly I’d should hurt and you should be shaking. You don’t want to be like that even for less than a minute before the race. The faster you’re out of blocks the better. Also, as someone who runs multiple events ( 100,4x1, 200, and 4x4), having the distance events in between makes track so much better. Having the 1600 in between the 100 and 4x1 gives me AT LEAST 5 minutes (usually more, around 10-20) and the 3200 between the 200 and 4x4 gives me at least 10 minutes of recovery time but usually around 25.

When you take an unreasonable amount of time to get ready for block starts your A. Only hurting your performance, studies have shown a light short stretch to be best. B. Hurting all the other runners starts, every second they spend in the blocks while your slapping your legs and jumping around will slow their start. Sure it's “your” block start, but it's not “your” race; try to be a little accommodating to others. My block warm up was super short, so my coach told me to do mine, and then just stare down whoever takes the longest and wait till they get in their blocks. Kind of ridiculous that I have to do that for my start, because you/your coach can't be bothered to do research and optimize your start.
