I feel like some of these "unanswered" questions are pretty well answered by both the series itself *and* the thematic and narrative through lines in "Prey". - Just like every other Predator movie, the ship is in orbit waiting for the Pred to return. It's probably still in orbit for now. - Naru wasn't looking to take anything from the Predator except his head. Just like her brother killing the Mountain Lion and *only* taking it's head, that's part of their hunt ritual. She was following it, having marked the Predator as her prey. So she only brought back the head from the hunt. - No Predator movie has ever considered non-film entries as part of their continuity. So this is, as far as the movies are concerned, the 2nd time the flintlock has appeared. Since the Predators are known to collect their dead, they probably get the flintlock at some point after this movie. - The timeline is easy: Predators arrive thousands of years ago and use humans to incubate the Xenomorphs. Shit goes sideways and they abandon that project. Then, throughout history, they've occasionally used Earth as a hunting ground after. We see that "AvP" is canon in "The Predator", due to they government having the Alien Tail Spear. - Similarly, we *know* young hunters don't carry plasma casters right away. The young, unblooded predators in "AvP" had to *earn* their casters. Likewise, the way the Predator in "Prey" acts and the obvious parallel the film wants to draw between him and Naru, informs the audience that their journeys are likely similar. The Predator in "Prey" is young, unblooded, impatient, and cocky. And like Naru, probably trying to fulfill his ritualistic hunt without the full support of his tribe, hence why his equipment was so much less advanced and he seemed so much more eager to rush through his prey. Naru learned from her hunt and he did not, so he become the prey and lost. - The Predator's mask was less advanced, likely, due to the above reason. But even so, we've seen in "Predators" that there are variations of the mask, some of which that do not hid the mandibles. So, it's not that much of a stretch.

I remember reading somewhere that that the director acknowledges that the predator looks slightly different than the standard ones we are use to. Kind of like how in Predators, the main one is noticeably bigger and different shaped. I think the director said he thought of these as more feral predators that are not part or the main society. This would explain his appearance and lack of technology, or different technology. And in all reality, you could be right too. He could just be a unblooded hunter.

I think a more likely reason is that the Predator doesn't want the hunt to be too easy. His helmet is a caster in a way, it utilizes the same targeting system. He was going to hunt Comanche, who he understood to use spears and arrows. He definitely could have brought straight up lasers to the fight--this is a species capable of interstellar travel. He brought what was essentially a hyper advanced crossbow, and it was linked to his helmet's targeting system. It made the hunt more 'fair' and thus more meaningful. As an example of this, the Predator went body with that bear more than he needed too. He wanted the challenge of killing it with his hands and claws. He could have sniped it but he didn't. I think the scene where he inspects the bullet casing supports this as well. He handled it in a very interested manner. He didn't really seem kitted out for hunting people with guns. As bad ass as that forest fight scene was, the Predator was shook a couple times. Him using the gauntlet bombs felt like a desperation tactic to me. It's a big part of the reason Naru can even best him. A whole bunch of Comanche, fur trappers, her brother, and her dog wore him down and they did it because his equipment wasn't where it needed to be. I attribute this to bad intel on the Predator's part and not him being unblooded. I think the helmet/gauntlet launcher is his caster. His helmet reaaaaly looks like the front chunk of a Xenomorph skull. I may be wrong, but on my first viewing I assumed he was blooded.

She didn't set out to collect his head. She noticed the Predator was doing it. Her Brother didn't just take the Lions head. He took the whole animal... Predators have to earn the Right to have the Plasma Cannons and Armband Nuke. By killing a Xenomorph first. Showing you don't need energy weapons... They prefer to use edge weapons up close. Hence the marking of their face. Showing the weapon they used to kill one. How the chick in AVP got the Spear from the Elder Predator. He seen it on her face. It's their reward without giving away advanced weapons to humans. The ship does not remain in orbit if they die. It returns to the home planet. As everything that happens is recorded in the mask..So the others come looking to see what killed one...

did you not watch the end credits where it shows the story played out over paintings at the end it shows naru giving the head and gun to her elders but as well as three predator ships flying in with the storm behind them if these are honorable predators they are coming to take back the predator body and technology and more than likely peace with the comanche tribe and will trade which will shows how grey back (the elder predator from the end of part 2) receives the pistol from naru

There's also different predator clans/races. Note that its not just different armor and weapons, the face underneath is quite different to the predators seen in first two movies. It is also has a leaner physique. Therefore these differences may be tied more to which clan it came from than time differences and rites of passage

The spear actually harkens back to the original novelization of Predator, which appears to have been written before the Predator redesign into what we actually saw. Its main weapon was a powered spear.

The predators probably got the gun back from Naru because they came back and took her with them to hunt. Predators have been shown to team up with humans in the past, or even take humans in as honorary predators, namely Machiko Noguchi (who I’m guessing may have inspired Naru). Naru’s story in Prey is about her proving herself worthy to be a hunter to her tribe and peers. This story intersects perfectly with what Yautja culture, and the rites of passage of un-blooded and young bloods. The predators probably saw her drop their boy, and were like I like your moves to which Naru probably said I like your style” and went off to prove herself a Hunter on a much grander scale… then she died in a hunt or something and the predators kept her gun to honor her, and gave it to Danny Glover as a gift. What better gift for a guy that kills a predator than the gun that belonged a primitive human that also killed a predator.

For the technology aspect of the Predators hunting equipment, it can be explained by this predator being an unblooded Predator and not having access to the more advanced weaponry. I would like to see a future movie thats based more on the Predator homeworld or them hunting something other than humans and then eventually coming to Earth but thats just me

Predator lore has always said that tribes of the defeated Yautja only return to mark the victor as honorable combatants and retrieve their dead/equipment. If that is still canon, they probably just traded with Naru.

@Looper So the Predator in Prey is called Feral, this speaks to how he hunts more than what he is. You've probably watched the movie, you saw how he moved, how he killed, and what he looked like. He's one of three sub-races of the Yautja species that have been shown, Feral, Super Predator, and Predator for simplicity in naming. Each have different tactics, different rules, and don't necessarily get along. Earth is a hunting ground, like many locations throughout the galaxy, in Predators the Super Predators and Predators abduct prey and drop them on a world where they can hunt at their leisure with new prey getting dropped in every few days. Predator 1, Schaefer kills the Jungle Hunter, in Predator 2, Schaefer's brother (yeah that's the novel connection but the movie made the change) killed the City Hunter. The Novels, Comics, and Movies are their own cannon, and some movies are retconned out like The Predator was ignored for this movie, as was Predators, and references to Predator and Predator 2 remain, Billy is Comanche and carries a medicine bag talisman, and is an tracker and hunter just like his ancestors, and the pistol is a direct connection for Predator 2 and Prey. AVP and AVP Requiem, are connected directly to Predator 1, 2, and The Predator by the spear Lex had, as well is the organization hunting the Predators as well as some loose ties to comics and novels. Four groups of cannon, Prey is a prequel to Predator and Predator 2 directly, you can ignore the rest of the movies if you prefer, pretty sure some want to forget about The Predator and Predators anyway. The Feral Predator was not an Unblooded Hunter, he was deadly, and capable killer before he arrived. Just like both the Jungle Hunter in '87, and the City Hunter in '90. The differences is his Prey did not have technology that would be even remotely rivaling that of a Plasma Caster (Shoulder Cannon for those who haven't read the novels, comics, or wikipedia.) Bows and Arrows, flint lock pistols and rifles, blades etc.. He went in to hunt the deadliest of creatures in the Americas and did just that, first a rattle snake, then a wolf, then a bear, then the humans became his Prey, until Naru started hunting him back. The Feral Predator was probably young, but not inexperienced, the way he moved was confident, deadly, but the problem he faced was he was arrogant thinking the weak little humans couldn't harm him. That was his downfall, he was out smarted by a human, just like what Schaefer and Harrigan did in the first two movies. Same as in the books, and in the comics (most of the time.) The Yautja are sports hunters as a way to keep in touch with their primal side, their natural side, they are definately descended from a predator (carnivorous or omnivorous) species, as their teeth and claws are sharp, but they are intelligent and adaptive. They adapt to their prey, their prey's tactics, the environment in which they hunt, and they do so for Honor, Glory, and the Joy of the kill. The Yaujta that get portrayed in film, comics, and books usually lose, and none of them have been totally inexperienced fighters, even the Unblooded of AvP were capable fighters with deadly equipment when compared to humans, but their prey were the xenomorphs and not the humans, the blooding ritual requires them to kill a xenomorph and mark their biomask (helmet) and forehead with their clan sigil before returning, failure to do so would require them to detonate the bomb on their gauntlet and die with honor. Also to note, the comics also have ties to Terminator, which has itself ties to Robocop comics, so really it isn't to unreasonable for you to enjoy all four series as one cannon if you leave out certain comics, novels, and films if you really wanted to have a head cannon where in Yautja inadvertently advanced human civilization enough to create robocop, terminators, synthetics, and spread across the stars only to hunt us with even more advanced technology than we have because we became more dangerous than ever. TLDR Feral predator isn't unblooded, just arrogant, the plasma caster would be entirely overkill in this hunt, and not all the lore is cannon to every film, book, or comic. There are two different film cannons, Prey does not include The Predator (shane black directed) in its cannon, but does include Predator 1 & 2. It also already has the potential to get a sequel, and I hope it gets it because the film was interesting and I'd enjoy seeing a sequal, as well as Yautja hunting samurai (which has a short story/novel already) or a movie where in you follow the Yautja not a human. I don't disagree with the questions being asked by the video at all, just saying there are plenty of answers in the various cannons to explain the decisions. Some require reading comics, others novels, others watching films you might not really enjoy... I however enjoy all the films, books, and comics about the Yautja species and their successes and failures at hunting humans because I saw the first film as a kid (I was four or five and a super fan of Arnold at the time, just like Godzilla I got obsessed with them and by the time I was a teen had read and seen everything I could find tied to them.)

I believe the question of if there are other Predators on earth at the same time is answered by the comics. Typically 3 yautja are sent on each hunt to prove themselves to their clan. Juvenile Predators must hunt alone at first, that's why we only see one. In "Prey", the 3 young yautja likely went to different places on earth. As the Predators mature and rack up more kills they gain advanced weapons and can hunt stronger prey. For example, in AVP there were 3 yautja as well, but all 3 went to the underground pyramid. Yautja clansmen must kill "lesser" prey before they're allowed to try for xenomorphs, and killing an alien queen is considered essential if you want to lead a clan one day. So our yautja in this movie is likely young and untried, hence the less advanced weaponry.

My main questions were 1) the predator was a bit amateurish compared to previous movies and i wonder it this was deliberate, the director said they wanted to include less advanced weapons because its set way before the first movies and it was basixally a "de-evolved" version maybe they wanted the predator to be less experienced hunting humans too or intelligent life forms, it was visible more often, taking shots face on and even being snuck up on a few times and why did it not understand how its own spear gun worked. A few other comments suggest it might be a young unblooded predator which sounds like a good theory. 2) what will happen to the predators body. I always though the self destruct feature in their wrist band was to prevent their technology falling into the hands of other species. We saw the severed head at the end but somewhere is the body with all the technology and if the predators don't come back for it. I can only assume that some else eventually finds it, pretty sure the military or government would love to get their hands on it.

As far as the "no plasma cannon", it would be entirely within character for a Predator to "handicap" themselves by leaving the big guns at home and going low-tech for a greater challenge.

1. The yautja have a mother ship that monitors hunts so the small ship went back to it either by auto-pilot or other yautja. 2. The tech was more than likely ignored by her and then later recovered by other yautja since they usually never leave their tech behind or traces of their existence. 3. Pistol is just a Easter egg or alt timeline 4. The yautja on being on earth date back to 2996 BC. Retconning how long they've been around isn't a thing since there's ZERO ways to spread information of their existence on a global scale 5. Different tribe, differnet yautja. Clear as day to me. 6. The yautja in the movie was clearly an unblooded on its 1st hunt seeing how it took unnecessary hits and didn't understand its dart caster's tracking. All of these are pretty explainable if you watched the credit or know even the smallest amount of yautja lore except the pistol, but hey who's to say the pistol doesn't end up with its original owner since the event of adolini happen 3 years after prey or there are multiple guns with adolini's name on.

For the pistol I hope Naru gives it to Greyback after teaming up with him..greyback was the predator who teamed up with Raphael in the comic and the one who gave it to Harrigan in predator 2. This would play a big role in the predators code to give trophies to the humans and the willingness to team up with a human like in AvP.. since predators are known to live to hundreds of years and greyback was an elder in predator 2, we may infact see a younger greyback in the sequel to Prey.. but if they did team up I have no idea what they would fight and maybe it could be the Alien's and their first encounter on earth too since they must of got there some how also.

Yautja tech advances as they hunt and learn... The ships orbit. They either slaughtered the tribe after the credit cartoon, or they landed to retrieve their brothers head, and received the pistol in a trade of weapons and respect in the process. This predator seems to relish defeating foes with his view weapons as possible, and only uses high tech on the fur trappers, Naru, and her brother... Actual threats. Unless you count the animals, he uncloaks to face his enemy. When he cloaked on Naru's brother, it was considered\presented to be "cheating" or at the very least a cheap move. In fact, I think Naru calls him a cheater when he cloaks during the fight in the Comanche dub.

I think the Predator not using a plasma caster was a choice so it could fight on a more even field. I mean we've seen Predators choose to forgo a ranged weapon when challenged to combat with the challenger sporting a knife. To just shoot such a challenge from afar would probably make for poor sport. I doubt it's because they didnt have them yet, they can literally travel interstellar distances and have advanced cloaking. In terms of the flintlock, it could be that the gun was passed down through the tribe and/or later picked up by someone during the expansion of white settlers across america. This later figure was probably then either killed by a Predator... or more likely fought alongside this person and was given the pistol as a trophy akin to what happened in the comicbook, as I doubt a Predator would take weapons from conquered prey, we've never seen one do that. They usually take skulls as a trophy and leave weapons behind. I doubt other predators went back for Naru but it is possible that someone who took down one of their own would be considered worthy prey. The mask could just be a aestethic choice by the hunter. We see in some of the media out there that predators' masks differ a lot to the point where I don't think they roll off a asembly line. If it chose to carry less advanced weaponry I imagine it would also prefer a more tribal, less advanced mask/helmet. I loved the design in Prey btw, its amazing. One question I do have is why the Predator itself looks different then the Predators we've seen before (lorewise, other then just because the filmmakers taking some creative liberties). I love the look, its definitely more alien then just a guy in a suit but it's facial structure is different. I don't want to believe this is a nod to the genetic modification they mentioned in the absolutely garbage 2018 The Predator, so maybe it's just a variant we haven't seen before. Perhaps a different tribe altogether wich could be another explanation of it's choice of gear and weapons as a more tribal custom.

5:04 I don't agree that predator's armament in Prey is less advanced that in previous films. Laser guided arrows are more advanced than plasma. Notice that, all 3 dots are independent he can track and attack 3 targets almost immediately. Also arrows are more like missiles, they can change direction in flight. Plasma cannon can't do that. Net is more powerful, it can chop human with wood just like that. His camouflage works in the water. And the best gadget, wound welder, in P1/P2 predator had only painkiller injector and simply clamp, wound needed time to heal. But in Prey he can recover just instantly after using this laser device. This predator may looks simple and basic in first impression but when you check him closely is not.

First off, Raphael Andolini was a real person. He was trained as a physician, but later became a world-class gunsmith. The plate on the flintlock is his trademark, simple as that. Otherwise, it would be like saying that Colt was a Civil war general who perfected brass cartridge ammunition.

Per the comics, Raphael Andolini was a pirate captain and has an encounter with one of the predators (Golden Angel/Elder Predator) during a mutanny on an island with his crew over treasure and breaking pirate code after killing a priest in 1715. Andolini and the predator shortly battle but are quickly interrupted by Andolini's crew members and end up fighting the crew together. After being shot in the back by one of his crew members, Andolini gave the flintlock to the predator as a trophy.

The reason why this predator doesn’t have the plasma cannon is because he is still a bloodling and has to earn his right to own a plasma cannon. In AvP we see predators having plasma cannon thousands of year prior to the film which confirms that they had plasma cannons since ancient times

I hope Naru ends up being the film universe of Manchiko the lady that ended up going with the predators and becoming a hunter among her predator clan.. since they are redoing the history and story, I'm hoping she ends up joining the predators that end up showing up and she feels the best way to protect her people is to become allies to the predators.. and either she dies of old age or during a battle and the predators kept the pistol as a remembrance of the first badass human lady that became part of their clan and became a predator of sorts.. giving her the Machiko Noguchi story line... maybe even have her train other humans capable of defeating a pred and having a secret organization to keep the yautja in check!!

Let's just say as far as the predators mask goes, kinda looks to me like it could be the skull of the amengi, the same race of alien that enslaved the predators for many year before the predators rose up and fought back, which is also the same race that the predators even got technology from. Isn't It Possible that since the humans in 1719 weren't very advance and that the Predator in the movie is just starting to Hunt? Since we know from earlier films that Predators have a sort of a Warrior mentality it's possible that this Predator hasn't really earned the more advance gear like the Plasma gun, A proper helmet or a Self destruct weapon ?

What if, the predator in the ship returns and finds that Naru got the predator head has a trophy (A sign that she won the fight). And they decide to take her to their own planet. And she brings the axe and the pistol, and that's how the predators got their hands on the pistol. And they gave the pistol later on as a way to say "this was from the first person that defeated a predator" or something. Comics got Machiko Noguchi, maybe movies get Naru. Would love to see a Machiko Noguchi but maybe Naru is the next best thing

i think of every predator in each movie as facing their age equivalent. in this one, a young girl fights maybe a very adolescent or "teenage" predator, who hasnt yet "earned" their mask and weapons. from the audio books it seems that the more experienced, the techier the weapons and more eloborate the mask. just my two cents

Besides the laser discs the Predators gear is quite adequate for the hunt in Prey. The kill might mark the end of the hunt, but its not the point. The hunt is about facing a dangerous foe on equal footing. Therefor may a plasma caster be more effective, but inadequate. And I conclude with the opinion, that he is an Unblooded, who has to earn his advanced gear.

I don't understand why people are caught up over the missing plasma cannon. I they have the technology to transverse time and space, then a little plasma cannon is stone age technology to the Predators. Seriously, Interdimensional and/or faster that light travel is many orders of magnitude more advanced that a little old plasma cannon. I think that that predator prefers to hunt with primitive weapons like many people like the challenge of hunting with muzzle loading rifles or archery. Heck, there are people that like the challenge of hunting with spears.

They showed in the ending credits in the story on the wall that the ships came back so most likely that's when they got the gun back to hunt again or give honor to the warrior that beat there warrior and also they always come back to retrieve the bodies of there fallen...it's safe to say that they have been comming back and forth for decades and and generations...and will continue to in the future that's what this movie was showing you ..and also that this species is a warrior base race so more then likely there race explore different planets fighting the warriors of that planet etc etc...very identical to the saiyan race in Dragon Ball...

Their clan usually came back to collect the dead & weaponry like they did at the end of predator 2 but I think you're right that it was to prevent facing their own tech later as well as respect. Imagine facing a prey easily that, next time, comes back at you with a multi plasma caster while you only had the one

Predators would want trophies from humans that killed a predator, doesn't make sense they'd come back for Naru, the flintlock gets traded to pirates who lose to the predator. In the comic I believe that's how it goes

Another reason why it my be lower is this felt like his first hunt or early hunt. As we see AVP they must earn the laser and it may be the same for a lot of the tech. They have it but he can not use it yet. If you remember AVP was test to and use the guns. This one may be just very low and no where near that level.

For the Flintlock pistol, I think I might have a small theory. We know that the Feral Predator isn't like the others, he kills for sport and for fun, not for what the actual Predators kill for. I wanna say after the main character kills the Feral, the other Predators take notice and begin to explore the main areas were they've encountered each other. While at the fur trapper campsite they must've found the Flintlock pistol and took it. This sounds like a long shot but its what I think honestly.
