I'm a jazz fan, but I'm open to different forms of Jazz. I like Electro-Swing, for example. And I think there's nothing wrong with writing anything down to save/preserve something. There are so many wonderful things in history we don't have full/good records of bc people just didn't record it/write it down. But, I'll be honest, if you ask me what jazz I usually listen to, it IS the original jazz tunes. But that doesn't mean I can't enjoy other forms of it as well.

To be fair, what you said about metal was kinda true but most metal heads are genuinely chill and absolutely love it when someone starts to get into metal. Unfortunately, some idiots (gatekeepers-the people you were describing) want to keep the genre as exclusive as possible even though everyone else is just trying to have a good time. And even though your not a metal head, you chose two killer albums to represent metal.

We're a "metal" band but genre is such a funny thing. Genre's are helpful descriptors but also sometimes limiting because people expect something out of it. If you are doom then the riffs better be fuzzy or slow. If you are thrash then it better be fast etc. That's why we just made our own genre up and called it "Groovy Sexy Viking Funk Amish Doom Rock" and just let our music do the talking. With a genre like that we can do our own thing.

As a metal fan, I hate elitism. In the modern metal scene, bands like Sleep Token, Bad Omens, Bring Me The Horizon, and many more are quite popular, and people are called posers for liking them rather than bands like Cut My Neck or Dead Toddler Syndrome or something. There are a lot of chill people in the metal scene depending on the sub genre, and in my favorite genres, mainly modern metalcore, it is easy enough to find out the assholes and just avoid them because the chill people also happen to make the best music.

Metalhead here, I'd like to take this chance to explain metal to people who may be interested or want to get into it, In terms of genres and how to identify them you need to focus on the main sound, average heavy metal is very light and often has a huge focus in terms of rock so if you don't see any drastic changes within the music and it just sounds like harder rock it's most likely heavy metal, doom metal is very noticeable as it takes a focus onto being incredibly slow and atmospheric on a focus of sounding evil, thrash metal often has a focus on speed so if you listen to the music and it seems very fast and the singer is singing fast then it's most likely thrash, early death metal has huge inspirations to thrash but you can often tell it's death metal from it's punchier sound, when death metal had fully developed the best way to separate it from other metal genres is to focus on the tone and the singer cause often the singer in death metal will focus on making their voice sound low and there's often a lot more power chords from guitar and you can tell from how the guitar sounds that it focuses on punchyness in order to get that specific sound and the drums in death metal are often blast beats, grindcore is sort of a mix between metal and punkish and its often very fast but unlike thrash this genre has a lot more blast beats. Slam metal is where you'll mostly find those "illegible" band logos and is often just death metal but evolved as they focus on the heaviness of the sounds so you'll hear the vocalist do sounds that don't even sound human, you'll hear a lot of harmonica and palms muted from the guitar and while most of the drums are blasts beats there are slow parts, power metal is just fantasy and dragons basically, groove metal is very weird but as the name explains very groovy as there are often very unique riffs and they often focus on being on the beat more then any other genre, prog metal is very experimental as there are often changes in the time signature and the guitarists like to mess around a lot and make incredibly unique riffs, djent isn't a genre, metalcore is weird, during the early 2000s there was a lot of focus on harmony and a lot of people may mistake it for emo music, nowadays it sort of focuses on being a lot similar to pop while also using a lot of synths and simple guitar riffs. Deathcore is literally just metal core if it was a mix between death and slam, glam metal is very 80s, just think a lot of hairspray and rock'n'roll and you've basically gotten glamrock down, stoner metal is very similar to doom however it focuses on being very low and slow and can be described as stoning music but for metal, sludge is very in between thrash and death, it's like diet death in a way but still contains some of the heavyness of death but also mixed themes of doom metal, black metal is basically death metal if it was inverted except for the drum part, the singers in black often use a shreaking sound instead of the usual growls and the guitar tone feels very light and lacks a lot of punchyness while focusing on power chords for guitar riffs, nu metal is basically hip-hop mixed with metal or hard rock
@Reaper0-vl5gb
@Reaper0-vl5gb 22 күн бұрын
As for reading slam logos you often wanna try to make out shapes of letters within the logo that are distorted, and often there's a pattern to reading them for example the pattern for facelift deformation is word in the middle curving down up down, and word at the bottom curving up down up with the first letter of the second word being in front of the first letter of the first word

As someone who listens mostly to punk and loves it, yeah, it’s complicated, no, we’re not all jerks, and yes, there absolutely are still political messages (politics are a big part of punk culture, hence the political patches like anarchism symbols on punk clothing). If you want a modern example of political punk music One Nation by Pinkshift is great. (Pinkshift is great in general). I mostly say it’s complicated because there all a lot of sub-genres (pop punk, punk rock, folk punk, etc.), but, generally, punk music is just energetic, emotional, and a bit distasteful (not in a negative way, cause that’s the point). Again, I love punk, but the whole point of a lot of punk music is being explicit to address issues that people don’t want to address because it makes them uncomfortable (ex: first verse of Hated by Yungblud). Most punks I’ve seen aren’t jerks (if they understand the core values) because punk culture has a big emphasis on authenticity, respect, and integrity (at least from my viewpoint). Core values are anti-corporation, anti-capitalist, anti-conformity, (usually anti-gov), pro-rights and liberation, and just generally being yourself. Everyone has their own definition of being punk though cause there is a weird paradox about putting an anti-conformity group in a box (hence conforming it to a single notion). To put it in a box, it’s a bunch of people that thought ‘You know, I don’t care about what society says, I’m gonna dress how I think looks cool and talk about the things I think are important.’

As someone who loves country music among other genres, I think personally, PERSONALLY, that the best country was the 80s about earlier. My favorites are John Denver, Johnny Cash, and that era. As a country fan, country fans have been saying “I like the old stuff” since there barely was any old stuff. It’s practically a tradition at this point! There’s plenty of bad country music from the era of those classic country legends, it was just forgettable and thus soon forgotten. Not to muddy your point, but electric guitars have been a major feature in country music since the 50s. I recommend looking into Waylon Jennings, Buck Owens, and Gary Stewart for some great examples. Also, 70s country rock (Flying Burrito Brothers, Cowboy, Danny O’Keefe) seems like it might be your jam. Welcome to the rabbit hole, my friend, there’s some amazing art ahead of you.
@Aros4
@Aros4 21 күн бұрын
Probably because back then country had actual social commentary or narrative value like how 9 to 5 by Dolly was pretty critical of capitalism and workers exploitation and Johny Cash’s Folson Prison Blues was about bringing awareness to how bad our prison system is. Now a days Country has the same old lyrics and melody and tend to really lean into that conservative/republican aesthetic that gives it a bad name. At least thats my opinion

Oh yeah frenchcore is a genuine major subgenre of hardcore that just happened to start in france (& the netherlands), the big things that distinguish it from other hardcore subgenres is a fast speed (not as fast as speedcore) & weird/offbeat bass sounds afaik

I've never listened to Mac Miller before, but I'm planning to dive into his stuff in the next week or two in preparation for Balloonerism because I'm tryna keep up with the tide of new music this year in a way I haven't previously. I've got his album Circles high on my list and I'll definitely listen to Faces as well. I'm a little worried for the album because posthumous releases don't have the best track record, but I've heard unusually positive buzz around this so I'm keeping my hopes up.

@@WallJumpGames ballonerism is from the same era as faces, it will be nothing like anything 2015 and after. I really recommend going back and listening to his early stuff and on Into faces. It’ll give you the best idea of where he was at at the time without the fluff of everything that happened when he was with Ariana. Ballonerism is the most experimental album of his for sure. I hope you enjoy your first time listening to Mac! Most dope!

Also could talk about a subset of symphonic metal where they only do concept albums; you gotta listen to the whole album in order in order to really grasp the meaning an emotion of each song; randomly listening to a song from that album while on shuffle will not feel the same, usually the song doesn't really end, but slowly transitions into another one, but it's shuffle so you don't get closure (speaking from experience, i can be pedantic abt concept albums)

I really enjoy musicals, but I only enjoy them ON STAGE. Beetlejuice is one of, if not my favourite plays I've ever scene, but I would never listen to the music on it's own (anymore) because it's not designed for that context. I mean tbf a lot of musicals are kind of shit or corny, I'm not a musical hater but I do find it a bit annoying when people's taste in music boils down to musical songs because like, they should listen to the artists who feature on Warriors instead of Warriors. ALSO, I don't think Fall Out Boy and musicals are as far apart as you think, I can't put my finger on why but the overlap between those 2 is quite large in my experience.

Tugg, I am so sorry to be one of those metal fans.. but limp bizkit is nu-metal😭🙏 Also, punk music was made due to political reasons and beliefs, and despite what's mainstream about the genre and community, it's still very much so heavily rooted in politics. There is still sadly a lot of nihilism and struggles within the communities ofc🥲 but overall, the main goal and reason of punk music and the punk way of thinking is still politics or heavily rooted in them. Mainly left politics as punk was created to rebell against oppression, bigotry, classicism, and other things. Despite how bad some of the pioneers of punk are ofc😭 and some of the fundamental cores about being punk is helping others, especially those in need as well, being an activist for the punk way of thinking and stuff as mentioned above, and respecting those around you. A really good movie I'd actually recommend watching is the original slc punk movie staring matthew lillard. It actually follows a similar mindset as to what you described. The goal of the movie, though, was to show how bad the nihilistic parts of the punk communities are and the tolls it can all take on a person. As well as a few other meanings like you don't have to dress up and party hard to be a punk, as being punk is a mindset and lifestyle. And the whole thing of "are you really a punk if you don't actually help and contribute to the main reason the punk subculture and stuff even exists?" And other stuff ofc. Really good movie, tbh. I really love it, personally. I do find it sad, however, as to what the punk community has really turned into and how bad the main view of punks is now again due to bad representation and ppl misunderstanding what a punk is. Or people calling themselves punk but not even following the core beliefs of what makes a punk a punk. Truly sucks tbh. But as long as you understand the core of what a punk is, it makes it a lot easier to understand punks as a whole as well and what defines an actual punk from the "posers" and just ppl using the image for the wrong reasons and stuff. No right winged person is a punk, for example, as it goes against every set of core beliefs and values the entire meaning of punk has. And yet you find many of those types of ppl calling themselves one which I blame on common misunderstanding and not enough educational knowledge on such a subculture. But that's just an example of what I mean ofc :> Oh! And btw while I'm talking on subcultures. Punk is not a subculture where ppl have to dress up to be a part of or not be a "poser"! Idk why some ppl think that. It's a music and political based subculture that's mainly rooted in the politics. Idk how what someone believes in translates into "Oh, but you don't look or dress punk though" THAT'S NOT WHAT IT'S ABOUT😭 But anyway, little music and subculture rant out of the way. Ty to anyone that took any time to actually read all this. I yap ik but I find these things interesting to talk about. And it's always important to share any knowledge you have whenever you have the chance and stuff ofc😌🙏

Also, besides that, bro, being a fan of such genres is a true testament of having to separate the art from the artist😭 most of my music taste is metal genres, punk genres, and so much rock genres. I basically grew up to be like dean winchester tbh if yk yk. But even in general music now it's hard to find any music artist that isn't completely shitty. I can only think of like 3 off the top of my head that have absolutely nothing bad or wrong regarding them and their careers and they aren't even full time musicians, they are actors that also make songs and sing😭🙏 love them though. Radio company, dick Jr and the volunteers, and Rob benedict are absolutely incredible fr. Absolute bbgs ngl, honestly. Edit: btw I mention artists in general, too, cause my main spotify playlist alone has over about 2200 or smth songs in it now so you can only imagine the amount of different artists and genres in there Also.. hot take, but country music really isn't that bad, but it HEAVILY depends on the song and artist. My gods, I go feral for dick Jr. and the volunteers, good time by alan jackson, dolly Parton, certain Luke bryan and brantley guilbert songs, certain big & rich songs, Toby Keith, and a few others. But a few actual just good country songs not by those artists in general are sleeping on the blacktop by colter wall, condemned by Zach bryan, life is a highway by rascal flatts, and the gambler by Kenny rogers. But there's also a version of Johnny Cash as well that's good too ofc cause it's Johnny Cash. Oh and don't even get me started on the cajun and creole country music out there. I go FERAL for the song callin baton rouge by Brooks jefferson tbh ngl

I am very disappointed with most rock music today, it has come to a point where I only listen to old stuff, and I mostly listen to punk type stuff, metal, and alternative. @@TSSFall no cause fr! And it sucks sm. But if you really want some punk music that isn't like that nowadays you should go to local shows and stuff for the most part if you have any punk communities and spaces in your area. Besides that, though, I personally just stick with the classics when it comes to punk, metal, and rock stuff, honestly. Newer stuff just isn't as good in my opinion. But I think that even for things like the pop genre (I miss 2000s and 2010s pop music too much tbh😔)
