I bought a CFMoto 450MT about 3 weeks ago in Australia for a capable off-road ADV. It has been absolutley fantastic. Make my 1050XT V-Strom feel like the Titanic!
@sspmoto7 ай бұрын
To answer the question - it's a little frustrating there aren't many or great choices for small Adv bikes. CF Moto's 450MT is almost like a unicorn in terms of the segment it's in. As far as a small twin goes it's the Honda 500x for about your only other choice? - but you have to put a shit ton of extra money into it to make it truly off road worthy (spoked wheels, better suspension, protection etc). If the MT has all that I would have to consider it (just l considered the Himalayan bought it and I love it so far although it needs just a little more power and perhaps another gear). I just added a RE Himalayan 411 to my quiver and it's great along with some of the other small single ADV bikes (KTM 390 etc). I'm changing out my big ADV bikes for smaller bikes because small is more fun off-road - just like mentioned riding a slow bike fast really is more fun - we don't need 150hp and 20+ k motorcycles to have fun IMO. The downside of the singles are on road so it would be so nice to have a parallel twin like the 450 MT. (I consider a parallel twin a different segment than a one cylinder thumper even if the displacement is roughly the same just my 2 cents) 36:03

I currently still have an AT and a KTM1190 (trying to decide which one to sell because I don't need both even though I love them both - on road!)

It depends a lot on what kind of off pavement stuff you want to do, but my 2022 Honda CB500x with a Rally Raid level 1 rear shock and their skidplate (plus SW Mototech crash guards, barkbusters, etc) gets the job done on pretty much any two lane dirt road as well as on less technical single tracks. I've banged the RR skidplate a bunch of times - it takes a beating! So, although ground clearance isn't great, if you pick good lines and slow down in the nasty stuff it's very capable. At 440 lbs wet, it's not light but it carries its weight pretty low so it's pretty easy to pick up too. I really love the CB500X as an all-rounder, but unfortunately as a tall rider it's a little cramped so it won't be my forever bike. If you are 6' tall or less, weigh less than 200 lbs, then it's a fantastic bike. Don't knock it until you try one!

Nearing the end of 2024 and my local dealer has CFMotos on sale. I got an 800NK for $6,100 (plus fees). $200 for a quick shifter kit is a bargain. I'll also add the steering stabilizer since the bike comes with the mounts from the factory. I've been on a metric cruiser for 4 years so the absence of a windscreen concerned me.... until I hit the freeway at 75mph. There is wind, but not an issue at all. In fact this 800NK is more stable at 80mph than my Honda Shadow Sabre 1100, despite the 225 pound loss. I'd do it again tomorrow.

When I went out to buy a new motorcycle I ended up buying a KTM 890 2022 for 2 reasons: it was a clearance because the 2023 model was coming in and I got an amazing price for the money I paid. As you said, a lot of bike for my buck. When I was considering buying the motorcycle, one of the first tests I did was with the 800 Mt or ibex 800. Loved the value for money. Unfortunately I decided to not go ahead with the CFMoto because it was a bit raw and unrefined. 1.5 years later, CFMoto launched 2 new ibex 800 versions, worked on the quality and refinement and added new features like android auto and car play... In my opinion it should at least qualify for a test ride to ensure that this is something that you do not want. I think CFMoto is going to give hell to all manufacturers due to their pricing point, options and incoming quality. Long story short: yes, I would consider buying a CFMoto. For the 5 year warranty offered in Romania and the price I pay, I would take one, use it like crazy for 5 years and they just send it to the recycling bin and get a new one.

I AM actually considering the CFMoto 450 MT (Ibex) here in the states. Been looking for something with adjustable suspension, tubeless tires, TFT, moderate seat height, moderate weight and a parallel twin for years and I have seen that many others have been looking for that as well. But, unfortunately, the main manufacturers continue to build bigger and heavier bikes, neglecting this segment. I don't need a 70+ BHP motorbike for touring and off road riding. 450-500cc is just right for me; I don't feel the need to get a higher displacement bike. As the saying goes, "I'd rather ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow". CFMoto is the first manufacturer to build the exact bike that I have been looking for. Am I disappointed that its a Chinese manufacturer, I'd say yes, but everything I've seen from CFMoto recently is better quality and has a good price point (I'm sure their pricing will go up after wider adoption). I am super close to putting the money down for the 450 MT as it checks all the boxes and looks good to boot. I know its a first year build, and its Chinese, but I will happily be a guinea pig on that bike, and I may pay for it in time, stress and money. That is a price I'm willing to pay to make the main Japanese manufacturers realize that they are completely ignoring this segment of the ADV world and they will lose money because of it. Great review btw, as usual!

Oil pump failed on mine. Wiped the bearings. Locked up at 40 mph. I called the next morning, they said bring it by. 3 weeks later they called back and said they replaced the engine and the starter because it got weak from me trying to start the engine whilst being locked up. Cost me $0. Didn’t ask how I was riding it or anything. Never tried to place fault on me. I’ll take that all day long

I tried the 450MT and I have to say that it's a bit slow, feels more like 30ish horsepower when you ride it. Never had the chance to spin it all the way or anything, but my general impression was that it's quite a bit slower than 450nk or 450ss. Maybe that was a conscious decision seeing how it's more of an off-road bike

I would say spot on review. I purchased a 800nk Advanced (std QS, steering damper, and larger 8" TFT) model in February and it just clocked 10k miles, cross shopping between the 8S, z900 and the duke 790. The CFmoto is certainly the best value for money with the standard features in the advanced model. It's also the most comfortable ergonomically and only second to the duke in fun to ride factor. Reliability and build quality is a mixed bag though, partly the fault of our local assembler/distributor. Test rode the 450MT "unicorn" recently as well and may consider picking that up later this year as well.

Good review as usual. I have been looking at the 800MT Explorer, I think what you call Ibex explorer in the US. So I was interested to watch this, even though not adventure bikes. It comes across how different setups and warranty can be in different countries. Only 2 years warranty, here in Mexico, it is only 1 year warranty, but if I understand it correctly, it is unlimed km. The bikes you have tested have 3 years warranty in Sweden, however if you go for any of the 700 or 800 adventure bikes from 2024 model, you get a whole whooping 5 years of warranty. Not bad. But then, the explorer model in many countries include panniers, in Sweden you have to pay extra for them. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Swede in Mexico

Bought a CFMoto 300nk just over a year ago. First bike, it's great. Only issue I had wasn't the bike, it was that the dealership I bought it from went out of business. Now nearest dealer is 90 miles away, but just found a local shop that is will to service it, which will come in handy when the warranty is up next year. I loved the rider app, and saw there's a "new" one today for the US market. For a 4200 MSRP bike, got so many features which is nice. If local dealer was still around would strongly to looking at 650nk, but now starting to think about a Z650.

I don't comment videos so often. But : - First of all, superb work of giving an objective point of view on exotic bikes from china - I live in france, I tried those 2 bikes, we have an "advanced" version of the 800NK, with shifter, steering dampener, multimedia dash (carplay), keyless startup (but you need the key to open the fuel tank "duh") and a revised handlebar - On the 800NK, the rain mode is about 50hp (by not opening the throttle all the way), the street has all power, the sport have all power + hard throttle response - I tried the 450NK and got the exact same feeling. Wonderfull motor, smooth, powerfull enough, really enjoyable (same hahaha, when accelerating). But suspensions are... well. verry hard/bouncy. But the sound is WOW for a small bike. - The 450NK is 45hp in europe, and the 800NK is 95hp (due to EU regulations on driving licences) - Finally, Big thumbs up for this amazing work. BTW, I don't knwo if you have the IBEX 800/800MT Explore edition, but you should definitely try this updated version. also, I have talked to Honda/Suzuki representatives, they don't seem to understand that CFMOTO is really performing here in france.

It will be interesting to see how the CFMoto bikes fair in the marketplace. We are starting to see an onslaught of Chinese bikes and so far KOVE and CFMoto seem to stand out. I checked out the IBEX 800 at a local dealer and it was pretty decent looking and felt normal sitting on it. But... I'm not sure I'd be interested in buying one. I do believe they will push the Japanese to start offering more features on their bikes, CC, tubeless wheels, etc that are coming standard on the CFMotos. IMO the Japanese have been very slow to add features people want and aren't that hard to add and from my personal buying I bought a Tuareg over a T7 primarily due to the feature set of the Tuareg and I don't regret my purchase decision one bit. But I am not their core target buyer so ??? I think you're right about the 270 cranks vs the old school 180 cranks, nobody likes 180 crank engines and some of the Japanese engines seem cast in cement on that and I don't get why, it's not hard to change but may require a new EPA cert which might be the core reason they haven't changed. I'll be looking forward to your IBEX 450 & IBEX 800 reviews.

I have several CFMoto motorcycle dealers not that far from home in Sydney (Australia) and CFMoto already has an OK dealer network generally when it comes to the farming related equipment space but not all of these currently have motorcycle capability. It may just be a matter of time that a number of these exiting outlets incorporate motorcycle sale/servicing as a part of or extension of the existing business. I was looking for a smaller adventure bike and the price of the 450MT and feedback from new owners and reviewers is and has been fantastic. The biggest gripes from folks seem to be delays in availably of genuine accessories and no cruise control and a twitchy throttle - apparently, well I heard but have not verified, CFMoto has released a software update in NZ to address this.

But recently, I'm seeing reports of issues with the bikes and CFMotos's failure to or inability to supply parts and address issues with the lack of customer service. I'm looking for a tough bike for long distance riding and while the Ibex looks good and is loaded with features, what's going to happen if the bike breaks in the middle of Wyoming, five days into a ten day ride? Will CFMoto be able to get parts to me quickly? Current, based on what I'm reading, the answer is no. With that, I've dropped the company from consideration. Maybe a brand to reconsider in the future.

Its an extremly hot topic in Russia, since we are sanctioned and chinese cars are all over us. I never, like never though i would buy a chinese car myself, I had mostly german ones (last one was Audi a5 coupe 2.0 turbo. After half a year time trying to find a good replacement we finally start to look at chinese cars, and they are not that impressive. But some one suggested me to try Geely Monjaro. We come to a dealer for a test ride and while waiting for manager my wife just sits inside the car for a bit. She comes out and sais - its a good car, you woldnt believe it. I am like - wait, what? I sit inside and its a good car. Like really a decent car, again, I had 6 y/o kinda sporty german coupe before that, i have some standarts. So we take it for a ride and she rides like a good european car, like a volvo i would say. In a week we just buy one. 15k km already, rode across country, its a good car i cant really critisize. One thing that is really luckluster is a climate control - no idea why it is tuned so badly, otherwise its just a great car and i would suggest anyone to try it out. So this is the answer - people who think chinese cars or motos are trash have probably no relevant expereinece. In 10 years we will all consider them a 100 percent valid option.

I bought it to thrash around and not worry about it. At that price point it's a hell of a value and not really even worried about resale....the most I can lose is $5k lol.
@jamescrook35635 ай бұрын
Yes I would an actually I am looking at the 800 NK. I have a CF Moto U Force and love it. I have a good dealer and the build quality on the NK is top of the line. I have had Hondas , Kawasaki and Harley. So I feel as if I have a good grasp on what I want and can get for the dollars I am spending

Great video, I agree with you about the issues on purchase price and resale values, here in the UK the prices are around the same as yours being 500/700 ish less for the cfmotos, but the yearly comprehensive insurance is way higher for the cfmoto, so that's lower purchase price is wiped out in 1 or 2 years, add the resale value which is terrible for preowned Chinese bikes with no warranty, and it's just not worth u buying one over a Japanese bike or similar established brand

Yes. Yes i am planning on buying the Ibex450. I wonder if its going to be slightly different for us. As we can tune it higher HP. Also lm thinking like the KTM490Avdenture we had fully adjustable suspension from day 1. Other countries had to wait a couple years. So makes me wonder. Otherwise why change the name? What to match the Ibex 800 name? Could be. Only time will tell. I dont need to go fast, is i ride a DRZ400 everywhere. So looking for something to replace the KTM490 Adventure they killed. The Ibex is way cheaper. Its actually cheaper than a new DRZ400. Which my friend just bought a new hold over from last year. A 2023 DRZ400SM. He paid way more than i will for the Ibex 450. I dont need fancy stuff. But tubeless spoked wheels will be nice to have. Although in 40 years if riding, i have had maybe 7 flat tires. Keep doing what you do. Cant wait to see your thoughts on the Ibex450...aka 450MT

I'm just 600 miles into my new CFMoto 300NK, but from my early experience, it's one of the best bikes I've ever owned, build quality-wise, (and I've owned 74 of them, from most manufacturers). It just feels tight, solid, smooth, and refined. Time will tell if that lasts as the miles roll on, but a VERY impressive early effort from a brand hungry to dominate the US market. I test-rode the 450NK and was blown away by the 50hp parallel twin, and immediatly put down a deposit on an Ibex 450 (450MT).

Can’t sell them quick enough in the UK.. Demand for the new 450 MT is out stripping supply..We all know the 800 NK is basically a 790 KTM with slightly different mapping and a lot more tech for a lot less money (UK) My only gripe after riding a few of these bikes is the fuelling can be a little iffy at times..👍ATB

I just purchased the 450MT here in Australia, and so far it’s very impressive especially what you get for the price. It’s got good build quality and I think people need to change their stigma regarding Chinese products, because most stuff we own is from there. And with KTM having a joint venture with them could only mean they’re doing something right 👍🏻

I feel like I would rather get the Kawasaki z500 ABS and the Suzuki GSX-8S over either of these. Both are incredible value for what you're getting and you can actually resell them for a decent price. I was shocked when I saw all the equipment on the Suzuki GSX-8S and how nice it was in person at the price it was being sold at. I almost bought one until I found an ADV I preferred. I am not in any way saying these are bad bikes. I think they look fantastic. It's just those two I mentioned stood out to me. I had a z400 and I regret ever selling the thing. It was very reliable and fun to ride.

Great video. CFMOTO all day long. I've had two, each for over two years. Excellent fit and finish, great handling and brakes. My CLX SPORT 700 even had cruise control. I bought right and saved about 25 percent on each bike over their Japanese competitors. I've had many bikes and have had all the Japanese brands along with Ducati. The Chinese bikes are better if price and warranty are important to you. Truth is, China is entering the market, and knowing how they are working with the Japanese brands, buying from China is a better and better deal. Look for prices to climb over time. Enjoy the market while these conditions are available. Keep making awesome informative videos.

Yes based on CFMoto's excellent 4 wheeler ATV's (I know about 12 people that own them) and they made KTM motors for years. I think KTM partly owns them now. The 800 looks cool, crisp, and very snug and well put together. The dash, colors and front look with the lights. My Honda Transalp has a good functioning quick shifter, my 1st but I prefer using the clutch.

My response to would I buy a CFMoto vs other brands is: Depends on the dealer/support network. In my opinion they are too new and and too sparse on the ground. They appear to be mostly west coast for now. Maybe in a few years when they have an established presence across the U.S.

If you debadged either of these bikes or stuck, say a Suzuki or Kawasaki badge on them at that price point, people would snap them up. There are only 2 reasons not to buy one. 1. Relatively untested reliability and poor dealer network. But are either worse than, say KTM? (They use KTM derived engines) 2. You don't want to buy Chinese. Which is valid because I have concerns about China's labor, human rights, politics etc. But a lot of what we buy is made in China, so is this any different?
