This Olmo Road Bicycle was shipped over from Italy and restored in the UK. The video shows the bicycle being completely stripped down, cleaned repaired then built before being ridden again in all its glory. The video also tells the History of Olmo bicycles brand showing historic cycling footage of the man himself Giuseppe Olmo.

The video shows the full bike restoration, including the build and the ride. Plus hints, tips and help with your own projects along the way.
Watch as this Olmo Bicycle is completely restored to like new condition.
I hope that this video gives you some ideas, help and inspiration in your own projects. If you are new to the channel please have a look around with plenty we have many more Vintage Road Bike restorations and also Bicycle Maintenance videos to help a long the way.
Or why not visit our website for hints, tips and free downloadable vintage bicycle catalogues to give you reference and guidance with your own bicycle restoration.

Magnifico as the Italians would say. I was curious on how long it takes you from start to finish when working on a restoration? Last year I restored a fuji fixie which was completely stripped down and repainted from Black to Red and then reassembled. I spent about a week on that project with the intention of selling it. The bike was too small for me. Just curious Andy. Cheers fro Canada.

Hello John, regarding the time scale I currently have a few restorations on the go at one time. I did used to rush through them. However I wasn't enjoying what I was doing, so I now do an hour here and there when the mood takes me, a little bit like gardening. Let me think, the tubular tyres took some time I had to do three coats of glue and leave for 24 hrs between a rough guess 20 man hours maybe. I just like to have things to do and enjoy what Im doing if that makes sense. The Bike sold 2 hours after being up for sale, shame it wasn't my size. Thanks for your support and watching

What a great restoration! I think this is one of my favorites of yours. I really like the pain/pantograph you did. The personal touch is so great in a resto. I've gained a lot of good info from your channel, and am currently doing a 1978 Peugeot PY10 restoration now, for my son. It's a challenge! So then we can both do a L'Eroica event together. Super job and done to a very high standard again, well done mate. I love seeing these restorations and reminds me of my younger days working at Paul's Cycles in Bishop Auckland in the 80's as a lad. We used to hand build bikes in Columbus, Reynolds 531, 753 tubing and then 653 when it arrived on the scene, great times, great bikes and steel is always the real deal!

Yes, that bike is indeed a thing of beauty. I think your attention to detail, particularly painting the cranks yellow, was inspired. You have to hand it to the Italians, they know how to make gorgeous stuff! I have a Raleigh Grand Prix as my only bike (to which I have been giving a bit of TLC myself, but nowhere near the level of your much higher standards :-)). So I bridled a bit when I saw the same name of the bike you restored. But how could I object to it? It's a fab machine.

Hi thanks for the video I have a question I found a Olmo vintage bike with a Shimano 105 group set 2x7 and mavic rims Can you give me an approximate value One more question this vintage Italian bikes is the original group set gomes with is compagnolo or can be Shimano or something else?
@BikeItUK

I couldn’t give you an estimate without seeing it or knowing what tubing has been used. Generally Olmo would have Campagnolo components. If you want to send an image via our social media platforms that’s fine.

A beautiful restoration on an Italian classic frame, although I must say the paint on crankset is OTT for me. There is enough on the frame and leave groupo clean. My own build will be on the road in the spring, a beautifully refurbished Razesa SLX with original chrome forks and stays, Shimano 600 groupo, Brooks professional in tan leather and Mavic MA40 's. I've watched some of your maintenance videos also which have helped.🤠

Yes, got offered one of these frames late 80's. I Had pete matthews bikes 531 campag veloce groupo and record sprint tubs. 21'' frame made to measure like a saville row suit. White with black decals 1987. rode amazing. Moved onto a pete mathhews 653 campag veloce through again 92/93. Then moved onto a graham weigh columbus - campag (?) loved all 3 bikes but have best memories of my pete matthews, saving up working overtime, looking and dreaming in bike shop windows of campag - currently bordman SLR Race with campag record through - rides as good as any top marques.

In 1988 I bought an Olmo San Remo from Jim at Settle Cycles, mixed build with a Corsa Record chainset and Dura Ace gears and Modolo brakes. Beautiful bike and road really well. I swapped for a Harry Hall 753 and some money, except the frame was too big. I still think about that bike.....

Man you did great as always. But you could have left mounted ofmega Mondial cranckset. That was a great masterpiece. If I were in your shoes, than i've probably seeked for ofmega master (or premium) rear derailleur to match it with Mondial cranckset. Super record is really nice but, in my opinion, doesn't fit nicely with Campy 980. Well done indeed, keep it up.

Hi mate ,I'm in the process of restoring a time trial bike from the seventies.its called a Sixar ,everything except the rear hub ( Royce) is campag including the dropouts. You clearly have an extensive knowledge on vintage racing bikes,was wondering if you knew anything , apparently there was a Sixar team but can't find any information on it,all I know is the bike was made in upminster Essex If you want to look at it I have a KZbin channel called Chricha bikes, it's the only bike on there so far ( apart from my fifties Holdsworth)

I've these bikes, I could be wrong but I think they had a special geometry. The head tube angle was tight and the seat tube angle a bit more relaxed. Love what you did with this restore. I remember these bikes in the bunch when I was racing in the late 80's always something to drool over. I especially like what you did with the crank set. One thing I noticed was the way you applied the bar tape, starting at the stem and working out. I have always gone the other way but think the way you do it is better. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the support and watching. The handlebar tape always creates a debate. Me personally, on my modern rides tape up from the bottom. However during the 80's one of the main ways to tape up was from the top down. Reason being, purely looks going from the top down you didn't require and finishing off tape making the job look tidier. great to hear you remember these bikes when racing, this bike was very lightweight. Thanks again for your support all the best Andy

Thanks for watching and the support, yes you are correct it is Bramhall Park. I live in Hazel Grove, I think you may know John Rochford. I used to work with John in the Fire. Hello Mate, I've got my hands on a 1970's Koga Miyata and my dad tried doing a paint job, suffice to say it didn't go so well. I'm going to have a go respraying it and cleaning all the components up as best I can. I was wondering a few things I hope you could help with. Firstly, do you have any tips on a semi-decent paint job, at the moment all I am aware of is high to low grit sanding, (wet or dry?), primer (do I wet/dry sand after each coat?) and then the final coats and gloss/varnish coat. The second question is, In terms of selling the bike on, are replacement decals and head badge going to drastically increase the sell on value? at the moment I've found some replacement decals for around £30. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers.
@BikeItUK
@BikeItUK 4 жыл бұрын
Hello and thanks for your comment, regarding respraying it is a good idea to gently rub down after undercoat. The under coat acts like a filler also ensure also that the frame is free of dust and dirt between coats using a thinner. Thin coats work best finishing with a layer of lacquer once hardened this then can be buffed up using a polishing compound. Regarding decals they are important however I’d say it all depends on what you’ve already spent what the bike is worth. If your doing this to keep the bike for yourself then the money isn’t the point. I hope this helps good luck and enjoy all the best

Nice build, but can you clarify about the Italian bottom bracket ? I thought the drive side thread is standard clockwise like English (so it self-tightens) but the non-drive side is also clockwise (opposite to English) ? Also which T-cut product do you use ? The standard polish type is too mild I find, but there is another that is like a more abrasive cutting compound.
@BikeItUK
@BikeItUK 4 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for watching and the support, regarding the Italian bottom bracket they are opposite to the rest of the world. The drive side is anticlockwise to loosen and Clockwise to tighten. I just use the standard T-Cut which I find ok, I have a look for the other one and give it a go. Thanks again all the best Andy
@johnmoruzzi7236
@johnmoruzzi7236 4 жыл бұрын
@@BikeItUK I think the more abrasive one is called "scratch remover", the basic milder one is "paint restorer" or perhaps now branded as "original" and comes in the traditional tin. I got nowhere with the basic stuff on old enamel frames.
