There are several ways to attach a patch. Some people like to sew them on, others prefer an iron, but if you don't want to spend your precious time doing either, there's an easy alternative. In this video, Neil introduces Badge Magic and shares step-by-step instructions for using it to attach your patches quickly and effectively.

I use a product called Secure Stitch. It’s a liquid and the kit comes with two different compounds, one for porous items, one for non-porous. Holds like iron and I’ve never had to redo or touch up any patches I’ve done. It’s available on Amazon.

Thanks for the post! I've been avoiding the needle & thread as well as ironing on some as I didn't know if the heat would damage the bag fabric.

I use a Cricut Mini Press for stick on applications, and works like a charm. A tail side idea taking a hint from cooking, take a brick warmed in the oven (~110-120 F) and use that to apply both weight and heat to the adhesive to get a better bond.

Thanks man! If only Badge Magic was available on our side of the pond. Had considered double sided carpet tape but will read the comments to see if anyone has suggestions that we can actually purchase.

I’ve recently started using this product. Works great. I take the bag off the bike and use a stack of books to press it down for a couple hours to get it really stuck. Not sure if it makes a big difference or not.

Shoe Goo is like magic. To clamp the patch while the glue is drying I have a big, round magnet (it was originally to do something for a pacemaker) that is seriously attracted to my enameled steel Porcelain Rocket/Bunyan Velo coffee cup. If a corner of the patch comes up or just needs some help, then I'll put a few stitches in but seal up the stitch holes with Shoe Goo or Seam Sealer.

Usually I use about a half dozen sheet metal screws and some pre drilled wood or plexi for backing. Very secure. Then again I usually use an overturned canoe for a raincoat so what do I know?

I have a hard time with that myself. I finally went for it on my current bag and really love having done it. That being said kind of wish I had a velcro section of my bag so I could add some velcro backing to the patches and just swap them out regularly, though I'd also worry that they'd come off mid-ride and I'd be even more sad.

Why not just stick the patch to the sheet and then cut it out around the patch edge? then no lining it up later, just peel the backing and stick
@amk221
@amk221 Жыл бұрын
Uh, that sounds sensible.. but I tried it and it was tricky, due to the intricate badge shape and the stickiness of the badge magic whilst cutting.

That it is widely accepted that when buying a patch, a shoe box full of kit, a few Amazon orders for more sticky stuff, a you tube video, and a couple Andrew jacksons are needed to afix a few sq/in of material is mind boggling to me. But hey, tire tube patches don't stick either so at least they are industry norm. 🤷‍♂️.
