Aussie here too. Our little town only had a Yamaha dealer. One of my big brother’s and his two mates went together and bought one each. It was the first road bike I ever rode. Owned another one later. And another mate barn found one last year. He is currently putting FZR 250 front end and back end on it. Front end bolts on. Rear requires mods. Looks good but the twin disc front end is overkill! 😂

It wasn't detuned for the U.S. It was brought in with the same horsepower restrictions that were required in Japan for insurance purposes. If I remember correctly the restriction is a washer that is tack welded into the exhaust outlet, and a smaller set of jets. Easy to undo. I've been casually looking for an SRX600 for over a decade, and have only ever seen a few up for sale in that time. Even though it's a 250, you scored an amazing deal.

My brother bought a brand new one here in Australia. It was red with black side panels. The engine was all black. It was a great first bike. It was small (So was he), light, easy to ride and fun. It would get up to 150-160 kmh (On the speedo) in the right conditions. It was simple and reliable. He didn't keep it long as the power bug bit and he went straight to a low km Katana 1100. I still have a real soft spot for the SRX (And the Katana...) as it was during those exciting early days of our motorcycle adventures.

That is a stellar example. Very rare find. The bar ends are not stock they should be black. That 17hp still propels the bike to 90 mph. Don't break the turn signals. You can't get them anymore. And you are correct - the engine side covers were puter in color with black lettering of Yamaha logo. I sat on that bike and the 1986 FZ600. The SRX250 was only in the US in 1987. I have an SRX600, only made in the US in 1986. Just did a fifth gear replacement on mine (45,000 miles on it). I bought it 5 years ago with 6,000 miles on it and rescued it from the junk yard. It has a SuperTrapp exhaust and a jet kit thanks to WeBike Japan. Harley riders turn their heads when I pull up because the sound of a thumper that breathes properly is a LOUD bike. I've dropped my SRX600 a couple times. Never any real damage except a bent clutch lever...lol. The footpegs act as sliders. Same concept as the SRX250 with 18" wheels front and rear. Great canyon carver. Curb weight of the SRX600 is 287lbs wet. Not sure about the 250. Probably around 250lbs. Oh and btw, the SRX600 is stock with self cancelling turn signals. Not bad for $2,600. But then, it died because it sat next to the FZ600 at the same price. Both the 250 and 600 models enjoyed production in Europe and Japan for many years. The SRX600 got an electric starter, and the last few model years were even fuel injected! Your particular bike is missing the chin fairing down below. They all spray paint those motors because the factory paint would simply flake off after very little use. And correct again that the fins were painted silver, like my 1982 Yamaha Seca 650 Turbo. Same crap paint.

@@kanetheriot3204 then you should watch someone with a channel that rides a Buell, and probably a channel with a guy that works on Harleys. This guy has basic general knowledge of a thousand different bikes, and not intricate knowledge of a specific bike. Nothing against Sean, it's just not what he does. Whenever I buy a specific product I go to the forum pages for that product. Then whatever year I'm interested in, I look up the pros and cons of that bike. Also watch several videos from the people that own and ride them. A lot of people do the 5 or 10 things they like/hate about said product. Much more information then a guy that sells every brand under the sun. Sean can give you general knowledge, which you can pretty much get for yourself after riding it for a few weeks. The rest you need to learn from someone else.

I own a 05 XB12r. The first gens had their problems but the XB's especially the 9's are bulletproof. Get yourself Buelltooth/ EcmSpy and a free service manual @ buellmods.com then join the buell forums, they're a close great group. #1 problem you may encounter after 10 years is a failing fuel pump. Just about every part can be cross referenced with Ford, Bosch or even a toyota Yaris oil filter to fit and work on the bike. St. Paul Harley Davidson still distributes OEM parts as well. Most Buell owners with problems have no mechanical knowledge and expect Honda perfection. If you're someone who doesn't want to wrench on a bike then you may want to sell it. While you should be able to drive tens of thousands trouble free miles, do your due diligence and research, they are very simple to fix and the engine could be rebuilt in a weekend if need be. Careful, once you drink the Buell kool-aid there's no turning back. You have an iconic piece of history which was designed by one of the most talented designer/engineer/builder in the world, Mr. Eric Buell. If you love your Buell she will kindly return the favor. Welcome to the Dark Side my friend.

The best way to clean a rusty tank is with a fresh piece of low carbon steel, a mixture of washing soda (sodium carbonate.. NOT BICARBONATE!) and water and you put a trickle charger on it with the ground to the steel and the positive to the tank. It's electrolysis working for you, it strips the rust off and makes it eat up the anode (steel) instead. It takes a couple days (depending on temperature) but it works REALLY well. Then once it's clean you can actually take a mild acid and reverse the polarity with a fresh piece of steel or copper or tin and plate the inside of the tank. Yes I've actually done it.. did it on my dad's rototiller's tank last year. You just have to make sure to clean the rust off the anode regularly (every time the process slows down) and make sure it doesn't touch the tank or you'll have a short... I just put it in a piece of a Folger's coffee can lid and set it over the fill hole.

In Ireland in the 1990's - 2000's (not sure if it has changed now) new riders started on a 125cc or lower. I used to think a 250cc or 400cc was a large engine, because so many people just had 80cc/100cc/125cc bikes - Some people even had Honda 50s and Honda 70s (50cc and 70cc) Even our cars, a 2Litre engine is considered large. But in Canada/USA that's considered very small LOL

I bought a pretty clean 1991 Honda Nighthawk CB250 with 12k miles on it 2 years ago for 800$ and got around 4k miles out of it before I sold it for the same price. Was my daily driver in the city 12 miles a day during every season unless the rain or snow was too heavy for any bike to be out not including when I'd ride in my free time. All I did to it was change the spark plugs, the oil, and cleaned the carb when i got it and then I changed the oil and cleaned the carb for the guy I sold it to. back when titles and registration were only 95$ I spent just under a grand for everything. Was worth it. You just need to keep an eye out for the right bike at the right price and know a little bit about them so you can at least do basic servicing yourself and have cash in hand and people are usually willing to lower their asking price

I had the Kenny Roberts RZ350 in San Francisco. 2stroke- obnoxious. Blew out first gear and sold it for more than I bought it. Too much fun! *A.

While I didnt get it on CL you can definitely get a very nice bike for a grand. I bought a pampered & garage kept 2006 Yamaha V-Star 650 from a friend for only $1000. It had sat for a few years but after I flushed all the fluids, rebuilt the carbs & put new tires on it it's 100%.

These were popular in Australia they run xt250 motors, fit a pair of small mikuni vm carbs(32s maybe) and a split cable and it will come to life.

I had this same exact bike. It was my first bike i ever owned right out of High School and to this day I've only ever seen 2 more of them out on the road. Definitely had a lof of fun with this bike and if i ever see another one in decent condition i will try to buy it on the spot! Absolutely Loved this bike! It was like having the coolest and fastest moped around lol Very dependable and it actually rode super smooth even going around 90mpg which i could hardly believe. Amazing machine!

I know this vid is a little old but it's the first time I've seen it. Not sure how I missed it but I did. I had to comment. Loved the idea on the pike. The tolls are ridiculous. I think shawn is such an honest guy he prob sent the turnpike commission the toll later for the bike.

I would say no having looked at those ads for a couple of years. I was able to buy one local on a local yard sale website for $1,000. It was a Honda Magna V30, and I got 50,000 miles out of it before I had a part break that couldn't be replaced since Honda didn't make it any more.
