Mandeep, thank you for your story. I have learned recently that "confusing" translates to "toxic" in relationship. It was inspiring to hear about your gut feelings and how you stayed with your instinct. You are courageous and brave.

I loved this type of yoga. I signed up for a month trial but when they pressured you to stay in the room when you are going to pass out and guilt you for leaving the room I stopped going. A person knows their physical limits and being told to push through is BS manipulative.

I had the same experience with Bikram Yoga. See my comment above.

Thats crazy. I've done a few sessions. Fortunately, I made it through. If I had experienced what you went through, I'd never go back.

I have done only asthange yoga. The main principle is that it should not hurt you… make it in your own pace. Be aware of your movements. Eat and rest well.

Mandeep, you are so incredibly strong and such an inspiration. I salute you and your victory getting through this. I was particularly gutted hearing how intense his enablers were, even his own family members. Thank you for sharing your story. Thank you both for sharing all these insights.

Mandeep you seem so dignified and intelligent . I'm so sorry you went through what you did. ...trust me , as a former student of Bikram yoga .. his reputation, for this very behaviour , was ruined . Well done for speaking up .

OMG I wish you could call Nazym Kakharman (Bishimbayeva) on this podcast! She's form Kazakhstan and she was married to a horrific person. I've been watching her on another podcast. She's very smart and wise. She tells a lot about how the relationship with a malignant narcissist used to be and how she managed to get out. Her escape story gave me me chills not because it was like a fairy tale, but because of how mush effort and time went into the planning, how she was dismantling the relationship one step at a time. Knowing now how close to a tragedy those relationship were, her story is the one of immense courage and wisdom. I don't know if she speaks English, but if she does, she would be an invaluable guest on your podcast!

It also sounds like he was testing to see how far would you go with his abuse. How submissive and obedient you’d be. Sadly these types read us and know

I went to one Bikram Yoga class. I needed a drink of water and the instructor started yelling at me for drinking water. She told me: "We aren't drinking water yet". My mind was like: "Who is we?" I am going to drink water. I also thought a yoga teacher yelling at a student is very yogi. So I started to walk out of the class. The instructor then started yelling at me to sit down. So I went to complain to the manager of the studio and when I did every sentence started out with: "Well, Bikram says". I never went back. What I did not know then, but know now is I had a congenital heart defect that I was born with and had no business doing any of the strenuous activities I was doing. I was an avid long distance runner and I was told that it is only by shear luck that I didn't drop dead from one of my runs. Being in a hot yoga studio was not a good idea either. I have had other culty experiences, but at least this time, I had enough sense to listen to my inner self. And because of those other experiences, I knew something wasn't right. I would love for Ramani to do a show on people from narcissistic families who attack cults. I have attracted several culty groups, but my will luckily go me away from them.

wow that's ridiculous . A lot of classes workout classes teach how to give alternatives , or if you have a knee injury, other alternatives . This style of yoga seems sadistic and very unhealthy . I once did a hot yoga and never again! I felt so sick for two days after. It's putting everyone at risk of heat stroke . Not a safe form of exercise .

Confrontar al abusador, dr. Iñaki piñuel comenta es la manera de detener el abuso: “confrontar, no sentir odio o animadreverison” confrontar con compostura. Justo lo que ella hizo!

"empty recreational pursuits" . . . someone coined that & i think it CAN sum up a 'western view' to yoga. my friend was, i think, in one of his classes & teaches as well. this situation w/mandeep sounds like she was being 'invited up' into a situation with which i don't think anyone would feel comfortable. stretching your legs out & putting them on a student's lap, thuings like that, are ways men show their sexuality & 'dominance' over another. to them it's an 'invite,' others don't see it that way . . .

A comment to the end: I had a boyfriend who said to me: “Don’t you see that there are other members in your family, too, not only your mom and sister?” I got angry at him! Many years later, when my mom “had done nothing” but in my opinion, destroyed my relation with my boyfriend (ahe had her ways) I remembered what he said. He was the first person who said it loud. No wonder why my mom hated him! Besides, his mistake was that he loved me, not my mom. It must have been hard for her. 🤣

Thanks for sharing your story about experiencing narcissistic abuse too Mandeep. There are more students in post secondary education programs now starting to complain about how more professors are acting like now instead of priests after everyone started seeing priests less as being superior to us human beings. Makes me wonder if predators sometimes when getting together at the bar in faculty clubs or whatever to enjoy a drink or 2 with their other old college buddy peers of the same gender who happen to be contracted in the same town for awhile to teach too ever have discussions with themselves about maybe what the best career to go into now in which they could have a better chance to get away with their narcissistic abuse. Or instead they are only being more devious than the average man on the make after watching one of those trashy videos too on how to get a woman or a man with less status however with enough cash to pay rent to them in bed faster while dating them and then keep her or him there often to profit from both rent and free sexual services until they get to decide when to kick their latest new romantic interest out the door. While then telling them that they should be grateful for all the help given to them instead. Believe it or not in Ontario right now I have heard through the grape vine that being a policeman now is the right career for any predators who like to hit on Indigenous women and Indigenous men too there while being in uniform at work is the best workplace to be in now for predating on people in general after that mass shooting in Nova Scotia happened. Anybody seeing a pattern now? Humans predating on humans are such cowards they prefer to be copy cats so they don't have to work so hard in pretending to be so much more mighty and more brilliant when it comes to being evil too than their victims could figure out soon enough. What a coincidence Mandeep. Just yesterday someone whom I thought liked me well enough for me to let my guard down to just have fun instead of feeling the need to act so serious all the time started treating me in the same way by insinuating that my joke now about why most single moms with a lovely daughter end up in debt must be proof instead that I must be gay or whatever only because according to him I blushed while telling it in only a recreational informal setting and then laughed just as loud as someone else in the room did too who wasn't him and so the first thing I thought then was aha! Right after I had told another man there who visits the group too who didn't laugh along with us women. A person whom I told that I want to remain only a friend to him instead of maybe for example dancing with him during almost every dance if a live band event there happens again or maybe going out to see a movie as he promised almost a year ago which might still happen after all of us started getting to see a free movie every once in a while instead only just because we are all senior citizens now recovering from whatever too. Now I know why some of my relatives soon after becoming a senior would joke around together by saying things like, "I feel like I am in my second childhood now that I have become a senior citizen" I wish predators would never catch up with them too until they are 125 years of age however given what is going on in the world right now thanks to the worst of the predators with faulty perceptions about all senior citizens I am not counting on it. A respectful woman or a respectful man in charge of anything is so hard to find. One who isn't into bending the rules to suit themselves while often expecting everyone else to just go along with it at the time. Is it me only who is starting to wonder if when you are a woman (or a man) willing in your innocence to go along with someone of the opposite sex who is wanting you to entertain them alone are we there then being expected to entertain everyone of the opposite sex well enough? Like if we were when walking into that room later in the evening unaware most of the time not wearing white if we are a woman or a black wedding suit if we are a man then if we later find out that no one including us except that predator in the situation was willing to do anything more ever than being entertained by others. A predator who gets off too when later another of his targets only because of his public persona in a power imbalance gets to see and hear later on top of it all that next victim of theirs being accused of living a high risk lifestyle by their fellow like minded predators.
