Ultra Duo mid drive is my first ebike. I live near a very nice trail system, some very small elevation changes. I can't believe the power this bike has compared to my buddies 500Watt hub. You certainly need to educate yourself with how a mid drive works before letting er rip. 2 thumbs up!

Agreed. It is a different way the power is delivered!

Speaking of "Canadian ebikes", I bought the Rize RX Pro and it's very similar to this Biktrix but 1000w and torque sensor. It has the same shifters and derailleur but I've spent hours tuning the thing to get it to shift and not jump out of gears etc. What a pain. I also have a Voltbike Yukon V2, a 750w hub motor with cadence sensor. That has the Shimano Tourney thumb shifter and what a relief that shifter is to use. When you have to make a quick stop from speed such as a stop sign or at the bottom of a very steep hill, it's a simple push with your thumb and you've gone from top gear all the way into first just like that. With the Rize it's pull in the brake lever so the motor stops pushing, push the stupid rapidfire shifter one gear at at time: click-bang-click-bang-click-bang-click-grind chatter bang-click-bang-chatter-click-bang finally I'm in first! I think! The Rize bike has loads of power to get up hills, even from a stop out on a snowmobile trail in 4 inches of snow. With a bit of peddling you can just power skyward like you're on a dirtbike. But my girlfriend on the Voltbike frequently runs away on me on smoother trails, because I get stuck fooling around trying to shift down going up the hills while trying to keep the 1000w motor from shredding the cassette! You have to have the foresight of a retirement planner to keep the Rize in the right gear, while shifting on the Voltbike just happens organically like any other mountain bike. I imagine if someone wasn't experienced in manually shifting things, like motorcycles, cars, and years of mountain bike riding, they'd probably have a really hard time getting used to shifting a mid drive and possibly even damage it prematurely. In my personal garage - the Rize is still the king for exploring in the gnarliest areas with it's more precisely available power, while the voltbike is a completely different riding experience and much more relaxed and care-free to ride around on. It's also nearly silent in stark contrast to the Rize. Any torque sensor assist bike is also better for someone wanting to train physically, because you can dial in the ratio of human power to electric power. With the cadence sensor assist bikes they seem to just ram up to a predetermined speed according to what PAS leve you're on, then they just ghost pedal there. More difficult to use if you're trying to stay in specific heart rate zones etc. If there was a decent 1000w+ hub drive bike with torque sensor assist out there for a similar price that I paid for the rize, I'd definitely go for that instead of the mid drive, knowing what I know now. Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents into the pot. Cheers.

Agree with your comment. I have a 500w hub motor bike and a MTB I converted into a 750w Befang mid drive. The mid drive can take the hills much better but mid drives are very gear centric. You don't want to go up hill in too high a gear or pull out from a dead stop in high gear. These motors do not like to be lugged. So I'm shifting all the time to get a good cadence and to keep the motor cool and happy depending on the terrain I'm taking. With the hub drive, you just get on and go, gear choice is much less relevant. For the average, casual rider I wouldn't recommend the mid drive, especially ones with bigger power. People who don't understand the gearing factor will probably blow out their controller and/or drivetrain pretty quick. But I like both mid drive and hub for different reasons. They both have there place.

Thank you for sharing,, I just picked up MY Juggernaut (identical to your model) (Fall of 22) Love it. I had 2 issues with Mine, one being the electrical Plug on Frame for charging, the nut on the inside vibrated off of connector(inside frame ) this caused the connector to hang out of frame exposing wiring, I was quick to remove battery remove some of the Battery locking hardware from frame allowing me to screw Nut back onto the tail end of connector,,THEN I smeared some Silicone RTV on nut and connector(on inside) this keeps nut from backing off . The only other small issue was the supplied bolt for the Stock Headlamp they provided was too long, found out that at one time or another the front forks compressed enough to impact this screw bending it (with minor paint damage,, Ive since upgraded the Head lamp and replaced long bolt with I nice slightly shorter Stainless bolt. Both problems have since never resurfaced. I did Call BikTrix and pointed these two issues , they seemed receptive and I hope no one else has these problems in the future. These two issues have NOT changed my opinion , I believe I made a very good choice with this Juggernaut.

Just bought a Classic 9 last night. The difference between these 2 seem very small and confusing at times. The screen is less and the shifter as well but still good quality and more than enough. Thanks for your review

Thanks for the review! I bought this bike in copper with the extra 17Ah battery. I was looking for a bike to use as a runabout and as an alternative to using my car so it needed to be able to carry lots of weight. 330lbs should do the trick. I bet the performance will be even better with the larger battery capacity. The Juggernaut Classic Duo seems like the best choice if you want a mid-drive with maximum range.

Great review very impressed with Biktrix maybe a little biased as they are a Canadian company, they offer a great lineup. when I do it again Biktrix would probably be either number one or two( Biktrix, Rize, MagicCycle), they offer off road configurations for us Canadians. Would love to see a review on one of their Hub drive versions and a side by side of their Mid vers Hub drives, even though it is an apples and oranges comparison.

So for the hill throttle test, what PAS level were you using the throttle on? Unless throttle is just throttle at the same power every time? (the ebike I currently use has the throttle power based on the PAS level it's set to)

New subscriber here, your reviews are excellent! They have a Juggernaut Classic Duo mid drive listed for $2,099 now. I am also looking at the Aventura 2 for $1,999. What are your thoughts on mid drive with cadence vs hub with torque sensor?

Such a tough decision. I'd really have to ride them side by side...Best I can say is watch both reviews and see if one seems the better fit for you. Sorry I couldn't be of more help but appreciate it if you use our links if you decide to purchase.

@EbikeEscape Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I am torn. As an old cyclocross and road racer, I like being able to use my gears with the Biktrix, but I sure wish it had a torque sensor. I also like that Aventon has a dealer network. Decisions...

Need to still get a cheap bike like the Kepler or Wired Cruiser and test those. I say cheap meaning still under $2,000 .. Not too of the line components for sure but both still marketed for all purpose use higher power bikes.

@@EbikeEscapeguys are adding 20-40 extra ah to the Kepler because it just blows through 20 ah stock when you are riding hard in hilly areas. Mounting dual rack batteries is common. But that bike has a nice open triangle. Just thinking. 😁👍

It's mentioned this Fat Tire E-Bike has only a Cadence Sensor as opposed to a Torque Sensor, or both, but no explanation as to the advantages of either ? Same w/ the Eco Mode vs the Sport Mode, no explanation as to the advantages of either or what to expect when using one or the other Modes . . . and now I don't know either. 😶 Why bring up the different setups/modes if there is no explanation ?

I really like the mid-drive belt drive ebikes - that's probably my top pick. But to be honest I ride both all the time. I like the less -things-to-worry-about aspect of the hub drive motors.

Fat tires are hard to pedal specially when you run out of battery skinny tires are better for light pedal on regular bicycles
