Fantastic clip from KXOL. This is another KXOL-ex who'd go on to do TV work. Bill would eventually move to KPRC 2 (NBC) in Houston to be their sports director. We lost him way too soon in '73.

This is great. Thanks for posting. Cool photo too. That image is from the same time period around 1962. This broadcast had to originate from the KXOL building on "West Lancaster, across from Farrington Field".... as it used to be said. This writer has a 35mm transparency of Bill in the "Control Room" sitting behind that homemade audio board built by, if memory serves correctly, Wendell Mayes. Carlin used to work behind that board too. As did Roddy, and Mitchell (both of them), and Burns and Tucker. Jim Tucker... another great guy. Both Enis and Roddy were Fort Worth natives. And 2 rooms down the hall, on the right, was the the "Newsroom" where worked Gene Craft, Bruce Neal, Roy Eaton, Russ Bloxom, Jack Burns and Bob Schieffer. Burns and Carlin eventually teamed up and it was "off to Hollywood". The "control room" and the "newsroom" were separated by the "Production Room". Good memories from those days and that building. There was a remarkable amount of talent that passed through KXOL while on their way. This writer mentions only a few. Thank you Earle Fletcher and your wonderful KXOL. We miss you both. And thanks again for the post!

whenAMradiorocked Sorry it's taken a year for me to respond. I would love to add the pic you have of Bill to the KXOL memorial page. It was infact Buddy Crouse that hand build all the boards at KXOL. i worked on the last one he built there that operated for over 20 years. :)

@@johnlp937 Hello John. Funny how times slips by. Replying now, after 4 years. My error. Sorry about that. Yes, it was Buddy Crouse. I thought I was misremembering that name. I only met Buddy a few times. He and KXOL engineering were located a few blocks away from the West Lancaster studios. Thanks for the correction. Always admired Buddy Crouse and his work. And, I do have a 35mm of Enis, sitting behind the "homemade" board in the control room. Enis was a nice man too. But I was only a teenager at the time and everyone was nice to the kid. Lucky to have the memories. Feel compelled to share a short story about Carlin. The last time I saw George, he was guesting on a show I worked, The Merv Griffin Show. I went to see him in the green room. It was just the two of us. We hadn't seen each other since the KXOL days. We both had a feeling of "well, look where we are now". We were recalling shared KXOL memories when Carlin began to speak about Bob Schieffer. He was so pleased about Bob's success. He went on for some time about Schieffer. Always appreciated that George considered others and took pleasure in their success. I think George really appreciated his own success. Me too. John, Thanks again for your posts.

whenAMradiorocked Hey, Bill was my grandfather. He passed before ever getting to meet him, but listening to this broadcast and reading things that y’all write are awesome, I’ve heard so many great things about him. Wish I would have had the chance to meet him.

@@williamenis2646 I loved your grandfather. I knew him when he was at KXOL. Remember once Bill gave me a ride back to the station from Lake Worth, where he had MC'd a teen dance. One of my favorite photos from those days is of Bill sitting behind the control board at KXOL. Bill also did a voice over for PAMS jingles series 29. I was working a station in Florida when a new sampler package of jingles came in from PAMS. It was for series 29 and WABC. Bill never worked there, but as I listened to this new jingle package I heard Bill's voice and recognized it immediately. I said to my friends "That's Bill Enis!" kzbin.info/www/bejne/el6UZ6Z6aKeBbLs Loved your grandfather. He was a nice man. A man generous with guidance for a younger one like me. We were all shocked when Bill passed away at such an early age. Thank you for your message.

The DJ announces that it is Thursday and then at about 7:53 he announces that the date is January 4th. The 4th did land on a Thursday in 1962. There is a problem though. At 17:23 the commercial for Kissinger’s Discount Auto Supply says the grand opening of their new location, will take place Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th. What happened to the 5th? The 6th and 7th did not land on Friday and Saturday in 1962. They landed on Saturday and Sunday. The 6th & 7th did land on Friday & Saturday in 1961. Perhaps the people who paid for the add, (Kissinger) placed the add so far in advance of the airdate and grand opening, they made a mistake on the dates.

Or maybe Kissinger accidentally used a 1961 calendar when planning to take out an add with the station. The date of this aircheck, is definitely Thursday 1/4/62.
