I gave Bill a hug and bought him a beer at Ground Up Music Festival 2017. I did this for all of you, like me, who can't thank him enough for this brilliance. Just pure brilliance. Thanks to all of you at ground up for all of this.

Where do I begin.... 1. Million dollar bassline and guitar solo by Mike here. NOW I'm convinced that he is in fact, a guitar virtuoso. Such feel to his playing on whatever instrument he touches. 2. Man the arrangement on this song, very innovative fusion of a somewhat disco beat and feel with a funkiness and orchestral flare to it, very cool stuff here. 3. Some of the best string arrangements I've heard, again the bassline and those melodies work so well, I don't know how these guys keep blending 3 completely different melodies together so perfectly. BRAVO! 4. This song really fits it's title, just saying.... Overall, what can I say. We should learn to expect excellence yet put aside all our expectations to embrace something new and innovative which these guys will no doubt shower us with. Do I need any more reason to justify why these are my favourite group of musicians ever?!

What I love is that Mike isn't even really doing anything melodically innovative here (IMHO) yet he's delivering pretty much exactly what the tune needs aesthetically. I like his tone, too.

5. The faces Mike makes anytime he's soloing on an instrument. How can you NOT enjoy those? They're like his trademark by now.

It's easier to hear around 5:22 -ish. It seems it actually isn't detuned, but fluctuates between tuning. They've got on some sort of detuning effect, I would assume.

I think Bill likes music with more of an emotional, highly meaningful touch. Cory and Sean are f'n great but their gospel backgrounds probably would have changed the song in a way Bill wouldn't have wanted.

Anyone know what effects Bill has on the rhodes at 2:35?
@noyd4172
@noyd4172 5 жыл бұрын
I think he's using a chorusing effect on the Rhodes; in an interview, he mentioned that he uses the Roland Jazz Chorus 120 to amplify his Rhodes, so it's more than likely the amp's onboard chorus giving the rich and synth-like texture for that particular section. I think he may have also doubled the riff with a lower volume Moog track with some healthy pitch modulation.
