When I broke my tibia, the doctors gave me ketamine to splint my leg. I hallucinated that the doctors and nurses were aliens and we were in some kind of zero gravity situation. The only difference between me and the guy who wrote that book is we hallucinated different things and I was rational enough to see the experience for what it was: a hallucination. And Bill is right. Even if this guy wasn't under the influence of a drug that the doctors administered, the brain releases a neurotransmitter when you are near death which causes you to enter a euphoric state and hallucinate.

Sharon these false beliefs are not just a happy time for people. It allows people to remove their reasoning skills in many other ways too. An excellent (horror) example is where the Christian father and husband commits the ultimate sacrifice (in your view) and kills his wife and children to make sure they go to mythical heaven (and he 'maybe' goes to mythical hell). THIS is what I'm talking about, when men (especially men) feel that mythical god created them and women were provided to them by this god illusion, they seriously could do just about anything at any time (ie their god may whisper in their ear!). I've read on one veterinarians Facebook page that some people brought their dog in for euthanasia, and the process was as heartbreaking as you'd expect so they changed their mind. About 14 years ago I contracted a serious infection while on vacation, went into a coma which I was then kept in. During the course of my illness my heart stopped about three times and I had to be brought back. At some point during all of this, probably towards the end I had a very vivid dream, (not about heaven or hell), which when I woke, felt real and like a memory. It took several days for me to realize it was all a dream. Because I don't believe in or think about religious stuff, that's not where my mind went so I guess it's easier for me to realize my memories weren't real. But they weren't. CNS depressants (opiates, benzos, barbituates, alcohol etc) and CNS stimulants (cocaine, methamphetamine, caffeine etc) are potentially addictive both psychologically and physiologically. A neurosurgeon does surgeries on the nervous system. A neurosurgeon doesn't do what a neuroscientist does. A neuroscientist studies workings of the nervous system and how it functions physiologically and they study it their entire academic career. A neurosurgeon gets some little bits of training of everything, but mostly just does surgery. Technically, you could be taught any surgical technique in medicine and not have a clue what is going on physiologically. That was the point.

God is not a magician, He will not appear to you in a snap of a finger, Who do you think you are? that when you call God He should just show Himself to you? I tell you what, He can come every time and make miracles, but it will still not work. The problem is people dont want to change, period. They rather live a life full of sins, jelousy, hate, selfishness, pride, to name a few. Seeing God is establishing a relationship with Him through His son Jesus, is repenting and admiting you are faulty and a sinner, is starting to live right, enough with this nonesense always against the good to accomodate and justify our wrong. Whats wrong is wrong and whats right is right, if everything is right and good then whats the point of God. Think about this, things are not the same they were 3,4 8 14 years ago, this world is on a downhill. Hard times are coming, repent and trust in the one that can save you. i love bill maher and logical people, and i know it sounds unbelievable but the NDE is something that has such a drastic impact, that you CANT deny it. And thats what scientists don't understand. But thoses experiences are actually going to be a worldwide thing in the future, and once science tries to look into that area, humanity will evolve into a peaceful place. weather or not the nde is real, it gives you the same experience and if the whole world had one today, tomorrow the world would change.
