It's more of a colloquial term that people like to call it, but you're right, it wasn't a "bang" or an explosion, it was an expansion (which, I suppose, is similar to an explosion).

The thing is, that fact is based on a belief - a belief that the scientific method is a good way of accruing knowledge. Also, science is not about obtaining facts. It's about making the best guesses we can with the information available to us. I don't think either of these things discredit science in any way and I certainly believe in it myself, but I do think they're worth bearing in mind when having this kind of discussion.

I was Catholic for twenty years. I think I know enough about religion to be able to make my own decision. I don't want to sound rude, but people trying to change my mind is the last thing I want or need. My parents tried to make up my mind for me, and it took me way too long to learn how to make my own choices. Now that I can, though, I'm very easily frustrated by people trying to choose my religion for me again. I'm an atheist. End of story.

Well if you believe that God is pasta or takes the form of pasta then you would be wrong and I would recommend that you lay off of the psychoactive drugs. If God were "pasta" then he would be subjecting himself to our mortality because pasta is a man made finite object. God is an eternal, omniscient, omnipotent being with no definite form. So the idea of God being pasta doesn't make since and is also very unoriginal.

The proof of God you seek cannot be found with a hard heart. You must open your mind and seek God. If you do so he will find you. Right now, God could come down out of the sky tap dancing on a red carpet and you still would doubt it. If you're asking about why I believe in God that is an entirely different story. I believe in God because I believe in what the Bible teaches. I believe in the Bible because of the archaeological evidence behind it as well as the scientific facts found in it.

Again with the assumptions.. Assumptions don't prove a point they just make you look unintelligent. I based my beliefs on my own personal un-biased research. I used to be what you would call a deist. But I have come to the decision that I believe in now not because of peer pressure but because that's where the evidence pointed to.

Just letting you know that if you were in a group of real Christians, they would try to help people and they certainly wouldn't ostracize someone. But nonetheless humans will be humans. That's not quite it. Whether you know it or not atheism is a religion. People don't just come to the conclusion that there is no God. They usually go to "scientific" theory to come to that conclusion. If so that is their dogma.

Of course, maybe saying they go hand in hand is taking it a bit too far... However, science has not provided a full explanation for the question of how we are here. The initial starting point of the universe is still unexplained. I think that is one reason why one could both believe in a god that created the universe but also understand the truth that science has discovered.

Lying on your death bed will strip away the facade of words that life presented to you and get you in touch with your being and truth, and IS rational. Death is rational, and before we die we have time to deal with what we need to do before that time. Proof of God is within ones own understanding, it is a religion, a belief system. A belief system that denies God, is a religious belief system, because you only listen to the choir of your choosing, with friends with the same beliefs.

Call it a cop-out all you want, it's the truth. I can't come up with any other explanation. It's also not that we're too dumb, it's that what we are trying to explain is something that's outside of our own understanding. For example: try to come up with some strange animal. Even the weirdest animal you can come up with is made up of something that already exists. It's hard to explain, but we can't come up with things that are original.
@nathanweisser

"not to be rude" LOL. I don't believe what I do because an old book said it's true. There is solid proof that the Bible is factual. It's taken as historical fact. I can't explain the philosophical laws that prove God's and the Bible's legitimacy within this 400 character limit, but look up William Lane Craig. He'll do it for you. He's a Christian apologist (creationist debater) that always wins. You just have to have an open mind.

You can speak in english if you would like lol. "declaratively imperative assertions" doesn't make sense. ANNYWAAYS.... Well, we can't know about it because we can't. It's as simple as that. There's no "self-contradictory quandary" here. (That doesn't make sense, either) We can't KNOW because it is impossible to get proof. It just is. and i do know that we all know that we know that we can't know about knowing about the origin of ourselves and knowing the know know to the knowbalooza know know

If someone showed us a picture of the sky that was colored pink but didn't tell us it was pink I would still identify it as blue because I know the sky is suppose to be blue but a person with normal color vision would identify it as pink. A person with normal vision can identify when an image is intentionally colored wrong but a color blind person would just identify the colors they know should be there even when they aren't actually there. You can find color blind tests online.
@RialVestro
@RialVestro 11 жыл бұрын
Basically because I was told that the sky is blue I assume anything that looks like the sky is blue but I've never actually seen blue and playing that game was the first time I wrongly identified pink as being blue. I took a color blindness test after that and found out I had always been perceiving pink but identifying blue because that's what I know the sky is actually suppose to be.
@RialVestro
@RialVestro 11 жыл бұрын
Because of a game I use to play. For 6 years I thought experience was displayed by a blue bar because to me that bar was the same color as the sky. The game had an update that added a new kind of experience in a different color but I couldn't see that and while complaining about the fact that I couldn't see my progress anymore I found out from other players that what for 6 years I thought was blue was actually pink. The new kind of experience that was added was blue.

I'm not saying I'm against progress or advancing as a race, I'm saying that we as humans will never be able to figure out what happened at the beginning of the world. We simply will never be able to find out. There is and WILL BE no proof. We can make THEORIES all we want, but we will not be able to prove anything. It's impossible. Dispute my main point instead of picking a random statement out to try and make me look like an idiot. If you wanna talk, be mature about it.

rational, not clinging to a concept due to likeness and self belief. Even though u are an atheist, u dont fully understand what atheist means and implies. And u also dont know what science grounds are (systematically finding natural truth and principles). A god/religion/whatever are none of these things and are polar opposites, they conflict on every level. There r many religions saying many things (conflict), but their is one science stating on thing (truth based on non conflicting evidence)

Ok. Why, if it all exploded from one spot, is the matter not evenly distributed? And why do we have some galaxies apparently colliding when everything should be moving steadily apart? He didn't get into the specifics here but supposedly the matter ball that exploded was spinning really really fast. Which would give all bodies (planets, stars etc) a rotation in the same direction, but they are not all the same. Why is that? To term something as science requires proof.

what if the god you think made all of this is not who you think is written in the bible? what if it is a higher being..an extraterrestrial being. the bible could just be a book written long ago and passed down all these years to make people think thats what really happened? anything is possible..what you believe in or what scientist say. just down force anyone not to believe in something.

That doesn't mean there's some amount of uncertainty about it. Pluto's orbit period is about 246 years. However Pluto was discovered in the 1900's, we haven't been observing it for 246 years, but we don't have to watch it go all the way around to know what its orbital period is. Given enough information we can apply what we already know about the universe (applying various laws etc) to come to conclusions, even without direct observation. This is called a scientific theory.
@nathanweisser
@nathanweisser 11 жыл бұрын
What questions? The Bible answers it just how it needs to: it says God created everything "ex nihilo", which means from speaking. He spoke it into existence. When it comes to the details, we best not try to figure it out, because we can't. But it's pretty messed up when someone puts up a bible verse and gets downvoted to oblivion just because it's a bible verse. I can't be the only one that sees the discrimination here, right?

For the first part of your response - hey, I guess you're rightright! Last time I read anything about the religion-to-religion ratio was a good few years ago, and Islam was first then. Apparently it isn't anymore, though apparently the first and second place in the race are rather often exchanged between the two. I made a mistake then, sorry about that. For the second part though, how does that make my comment irrelevant? Especially how the religion-to-religion ratio has nothing to do with it.

A theory is a way of trying to explaining something that we can't prove. A hypothesis is a guess that can later be tested by the scientific method, which will later be compared to the end result. Evolution is a theory because there is no scientific method that can prove it and it just tries to explain the origin of life without proof.

We as humans can not comprehend how God was always there, because we were born and in our eyes that's impossible. But its not impossible for God. People, evolution is a scientific theory. Everyone has the right to believe in what they want. There is no point arguing about the 'truth', because there simply isn't.
