I recently heard the main shaft could break and noticed two situations in just one week. Curiosly I needed a LHD steering box here in Portugal for a friend and found a guy who break cars and getted it for a very low cost. Fortunately it is working very well and have any drop from it. I think I was lucky because all my PAS land rovers had to rebuild. But none needed more than seals. Lucky me.😀

Bugger,had the same thing even had a spare kit to reco it. Worm gear looked great until l looked at the bearing race which was badly pitted.🤨

Power steering is overrated anyway! Big bloody bakelight cartwheel that you can bang yr head against whilst your wheels wobble as you hit the pothole is what I say..
