Alankruti Poojari To me it's bittersweet. While I'm glad we can FINALLY get rid of that goddamn song, I hate the idea of it joining this "exclusive club" where only a few songs lasted a full year on the charts, especially since it didn't even leave the top 40

The song had to grow on me, but I'd be lying if I said I won't be at least kind of sad to see it off. While I know many will be saying "GOOD RIDDANCE!" when it leaves, I won't be one of them. For the outstanding run it had, it's hard to not feel at least somewhat sad to see it depart after how much it's gone through.

I initially liked it at first, but then got tired of it back in October as it became too overplayed. Even right now, I still don't find it that interesting to listen to, so it can be said that overplay has killed the song for me, and that I should be relieved to see it go to the récurrents next week.

@aronpuma59627 жыл бұрын
I realize that Disney is not about to spend much money on it, and that they aren't making something that they want ot last. I realize that the creators probably just aren't that interested in what they're doing and want to get paid. And I also realize that even when Disney people try, their productions will have staid cinematography and largely formulaic filmmaking (unless they are directed by Brad Bird) But I do expect that they can at least make it look like they are on a boat. Even if it's a soundstage, it is possible to make it look like they are on a boat for not that much money.

Nick Cruz I wouldn't say it's been forever, 2007-2013 was full of upbeat hits. The whole downward, depressing trend has been going on since at least late 2015 and will most likely continue until at least 2020. The charts usually determine what tastes the general public currently has. Without going into political conversations, if you've been keeping up with current events, the state of the pop charts usually reflect mood of the country as a whole. In short, expect more dour-sounding pop and trap-rap for the next few years. I personally don't like these trends, but I'm only one out of 300 million.

Man, Sofia, Cameron and Booboo really got the shaft this year. And let's be real, the only reason why 1D members' solo songs (which, for the record, are all lackluster) keep charting is because of their fanbase. If *NSYNC existed in the present day and their fans were as passionate as the 1D stans are, Blowin' Me Up (With Her Love) would've been a hit.

Ok, the new entries just sucked, so here's a list of my scores for the top 10: 10: Body Like a Back Road - 1/10 - *eww...* 9: Attention - 4/10 - It's alright, I guess. It's the best song to ever come out of Charlie Puth, so I'll give it that, but other than that, nothing sticks out about this song, nothing grabs my attention about it, so it is just relegated to background music. Can't say much more about that. 8: There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back - 6/10 - Easily the best Shawn Mendes song. Period. I doubt that there would be any other song by Mendes that I'd like - 'Stitches' and 'Mercy' leaves nothing to the imagination (ie. I couldn't care less about those songs) and 'Treat You Better' was absolute dogshit - so it's nice to finally have a song by him that I actually sorta like, even if only for the strong chorus, but hey, I'd take it at this point. 7: Shape of You - 3/10 - Honestly, I'm sick of this song right now. It was okay when it was fresh and new but it grew quite stale very quickly, and the fact that the song is incredibly formulaic, safe and uninteresting doesn't help. I mean, this tropical house formula has been done before, with pop stars such as Sia using this formula, that the song is pretty much unoriginal and just like any other song that you hear on the radio. I'm sorta glad that it's on its way out, but it's happening too slowly - I'd much rather this song gone now! 6. Unforgettable - 3/10 - I don't have much to say about this song, but it is pretty ironic that a song that is called 'Unforgettable' can be exactly the opposite of what it means. Meh, I'd probably forget about this song in a couple of hours, and be reminded about its existence during the next episode of Billboard Breakdown. 5: Believer - 5/10 - Not bad, but not good either. This song sits somewhere in the middle, interesting enough to make me intrigued but bland enough to make me regret I ever listened to it. 4: I'm the One - 2/10 - Ugh! This song is awful! And to think that Chance the Rapper is on this is easily the saddest part about it! Such a waste of talent... Anyway this song is only here because of Justin Bieber - and nobody else. Ugh, can't talk about this one anymore... 3: That's what I Like - 8/10 - Easily the best song in the top 10 at the moment. It's refreshing to see such a good song right here after all the mediocrity that is within the top ten. Geez, Bruno Mars is killing it right now! I know that the song is a bit old - I mean, it's been in the charts for months now - but I don't care, as this song is the sweet, sweet sugary goodness amongst all the stale bread in the top 10, and that's fine enough for me! 2: Wild Thoughts - 7/10 - Easily the best song that DJ Khaled is involved in, and it's all thanks to Rihanna and that damn fine Santana sample. Even Bryson Tiller is quite good here. Again, I hope songs like these stick around, because we all need it at this point. 1: Despacito - 1/10 - Ok, at this point, it's safe to say that this song is really getting onto my nerves, and I didn't like the song the first time I heard it to begin with! Again, this song is not here because people are looking for something different, or that there is a push for reggaeton to be the next trending genre in the charts, or that the charts are finally embracing diversity; it's only here because of FUCKING JUSTIN BIEBER!!! Look, there are lots and lots of non-English songs that I love, no matter how popular they are - for example: 'Drinkee' by Sofi Tukker, 'Tilted' and 'iT' by Christine & the Queens, '99 Luftballons' by Nena, 'KARATE' by BABYMETAL and even the cheesy but catchy 'Gangnam Style' by Psy - as well as many artists that, although they have translated or sung in English, they aren't afraid of singing in their native language - for example: Kaleo, Ásgeir, Milky Chance, just to name a few - 'Despacito' is NOT one of them. To conclude, this song sucks, it shouldn't be at no.1 and the sooner the song is out of the charts, the better. -sigh- Meanwhile, as I am Australian, lets look at the top ten songs on the ARIA charts at this moment: 10: In the End - 9/10 - To start off on this bittersweet note, the tragic circumstances regarding Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington has led to the reentry of several Linkin Park songs into the charts, and us Aussies have put their song 'In the End' in the top 10, something that the Americans sadly couldn't achieve. This is a great song, to be blunt here, and whilst I'm not personally into Linkin Park, I can appreciate their music to an extent, and this song is one of the songs that I really like from them. 9: There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back - 6/10 - (see my review for the song in the US charts above). 8: Mama - 6/10 - I don't mind Jonas Blue at all, actually. I really enjoyed his cover of Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car', and his other song 'Perfect Strangers' is alright too. Whilst this song is personally one of the weakest that Jonas Blue had done, I do like this producer and this song deserves some more attention, especially in the US. 7: Glorious - 7/10 - Macklemore and Ryan Lewis has always been a positive force in the charts, with songs like 'Thrift Shop', 'Same Love', 'Can't Hold Us' and 'Downtown' I always love to listen to, so it's nice to see them back in the charts, well only Macklemore going solo this time around. Whilst this song doesn't hold a candle to the hits that Macklemore made with Ryan Lewis, I can find this track growing on me in the near future. 6: Slow Hands - 9/10 - I am not ashamed to say that I didn't like One Direction and I never will, but I am also not ashamed to say that I love the solo efforts that some of the boys from this former boy band have made. I'd even say that the splitting of One Direction was the best thing to happen to them, as the quality has definitely improved, with Zayn releasing 'Pillowtalk', which I personally don't mind, and especially Harry Styles, who surprised us with how great 'Sign of the Times' was - I'd say Styles is one of the two boys from the band that I like the most. The other one here that I like is Niall Horan, who released 'This Town' last year, which I found okay but lacking in some fields and I found it to be quite ordinary. This year, however, he released 'Slow Hands', which, to my surprise, I actually found quite enjoyable. The song grabs your attention without even knowing that it has, and has you bopping along to it with its campy but completely singable melody. It's refreshing to have songs like this in the charts and I can't wait to see more songs like this. 5: Wild Thoughts - 7/10 - (see my review for the song in the US charts above). 4: Strip that Down - 5/10 - This is another attempt from a former member of One Direction to do well in the charts. Whilst Harry Styles and Niall Horan surprised me with how good their songs were (see 'Slow Hands' above) and Zayn's attempt at becoming an R&B heavyweight having some hits and misses, this attempt by Liam Payne however is something else. Whilst it's not bad per se, 'Strip that Down' is, well, not good, and Liam fails to match up with his fellow ex-band mates here. This song is just another ordinary pop song, with the feature by Quavo from Migos - a rap group that keeps popping up everywhere you go, with mixed results - just another ordinary guest rap verse. It's not bad and I definitely don't hate it, but it's nothing special, so moving on... 3: Feels: 10/10 - Wait, what??? A really good Calvin Harris song in the top 5? It's too hard to believe but it's true. Yes, 'Feels' is just the kind of song that is needed in the top ten right now (and the best in the top ten), and with the really funky, excellent production skills by Calvin, Pharrell's infectious groove, Katy Perry's BEST performance of 2017, and a surprisingly tolerable verse from Big Sean, even though it is winter here down under, it is the type of song that transports you to that perfect summer party. Need I say more about this? 'Feels' deserves the perfect score, and I do hope that this song becomes a #1 hit, because otherwise the Australian people would be robbed from the chance of having an awesome song at the top. Excellent job, Calvin Harris (and Pharrell, Katy and Big Sean, for making this song) and the Australian people (for giving it the popularity it so well deserves), excellent job indeed... 2: Thunder - 5/10 - Just like 'Believer', which is #5 in the US Billboard charts, 'Thunder' is *storming* up the charts here down under (sorry, I had to, just couldn't help myself). And just like 'Believer', 'Thunder' is another middle-of-the-road song, which means whilst I don't hate the song, I don't like it either. Alright, that one pretty much sums it up, so I'll get out of here before the *lightning* show starts (ok, sorry, I'll stop now). 1: Despacito - 1/10 - (see my review for the song in the US charts above). Ok, as I have now scored the charts, I'll conclude this by aggregating a total score of the US and of the Australian top ten charts. The US top ten get a total score of 40/100, which equals 4/10 or 40%, whilst the Australian top ten get a total score of 65/100, which equals 6.5/10 (13/20) or 65%. Make your conclusion of these results as you will...

Also, fuck them for not having Talking To Myself chart because of Meek Mill in particular!

(warning: my opinions are mostly just from listening to the radio) Yeah I still think Liam is making the worst music. Niall's is OK but not that interesting, same with Zayne (but I find Zayne more annoying). Harry is the most interesting and promising, but he still has maturing to do. I like Back to You but I've only heard it a couple times.
@cccornel77227 жыл бұрын
Lucy W IMO Niall>Louis>Liam>Zayn>Harry Even though Harry is last for me, it's more because I least enjoy his music. I still think he has more of a promising career then Zayn cause you're right he is annoying. I was one of the few people that kinda liked Strip that Down but Get Low was forgettable. Back to you was the song that propelled Louis over Liam. Niall leads cause I love Slow Hands and This Town is decent.

For some reason there's been a lot of weeks this year where I like your "worst of the week" or some middle tracks a whole lot better than your "best of the week" This is one of those weeks, 1942 flows is great, fuck that check up should be worst of the week just because being renegaded by Uzi should put you in rapper jail for at least a month

Mark, Romeo Santos sounds different from the other mainstream Latin artists because he doesn't do Reggaeton. Bachata is a completely different genre.

It's not often that the #3 album on the 200 rules the charts. Even though #2 especially and yes even #1 being better. 1942 Flows (Best of the Week) Meek Actually has interesting lyrics! Wow! Imitatora (Honorable Mention) decent Spanish song. I'll take it. What's My Name (Dishonorable Mention) what a waste of a decent beat. It was semi-tolerable until the rap verse. It's worse then some meek mill verses. Yeah. The one with Meek and Young Thug (worst of the Week) I couldn't even stick around for the Thugger feature it was so boring.

It makes sense when you look at the numbers. Lana Del Rey earned 107K units with 80K album sales. Tyler, The Creator earned 106K units off of 70K album sales. But Meek Mill got 102K units with only 37K album sales. Remember, every album sale hurts your chances of getting individual tracks to chart, so Meek Mill's comparative shitload of streaming lands him more Hot 100 debuts.
@cubedmelons8767 жыл бұрын
Still, doesn't really add up. Kendrick still has 4 songs on the chart despite only a 48k week, so I thought Lana and Tyler would be able to get at least something on there with similar numbers.
@mariokarter137 жыл бұрын
An album sale is a sale of every song on the album, ergo none of the individual tracks get a boost. The Hot 100 charts individual tracks, not full albums. It's also why earlier singles tend to perform better than later singles, if everyone that would possibly buy the album has already bought the album, why would they buy or stream the single from an album they already own?

Thank you for your perfect reviews on the Meek Mill songs. There was nothing remotely great about them, they all sucked. And the fact that his album sold less than 50k in pure sales proves that luckily his fanbase is starting to shrink. Without Tidal, there would no new entry from him this week.

tbh I am really surprised Pillowtalk got best of the week. True to its name that song is just so sleepy, languid, trying to seem dramatic and failing. I forgot Mark liked it. Also, I like Back to You okay.
@legendbtv7 жыл бұрын
Lucy W I don't like Pillow Talk Sign of The Times is good, except for the parts about the bullet the vocals annoy me Niall's slow hands is actually really good so no negativity here Liam ........... Sadly... Louis' song was just too bland and boring
orlock20 With Portugal the Man's charting and rising and The Revivalist possibly adding to the conservation in terms of mainstream relevance in the Bubbling Under, albeit hovering/clinging on, it could happen from rock based blues prospective. With country, I'm mixed with that. Yes, if it is something more of the neo-Traditional sound or Chris Stapleton that was initially pushed this year. Or some of the country ladies could make traction. The Hot 100 may not reflect it, but the women in country has produced some great songs. But something like rejected Luke Bryan bro-country from his presumed successor/replacement needs to go away.
@crazyluigi66647 жыл бұрын
I'd have been happier with more Linkin Park & Tyler The Creator myself, but country and modern blues works also.

@theidealistic70307 жыл бұрын
+Clash of Clans with Alan Secondly, ending off with "keep listening to Bieber" is goddamn asinine for many reasons. How does him negatively reviewing Meek Mill (who isn't a good or particularly talented rapper, for the matter) determine his tastes in other music genres or even possibly raise the hasty assumption that he likes Justin Bieber? Besides, Spectrum Pulse isn't too fond of Bieber overall and considers him to be mediocre.
