Most of them were protesting the great depression. They weren't against the people, but the government. Like you said, Robin Hood type. I can't remember which, but he was in a bank robbing it, and got the money and a guy was standing in line to cash his check. And he cashed it out of the money he had just stolen. 😅 Great story, Ron. 👍

My husband lived in the Lincoln Court Apartments directly below the one Dillinger stayed in. They were exactly the same. Loved seeing it and the hallways and back door where the shootout and escape happened. My father grew up near Little Bohemia and told us about the times the gangsters came through town he grew up in. Said everyone left them alone and that they (the gangsters) kept to themselves but were also polite.

Another superb job Ron!!! I knew Billie Frechette was from the Menominee Reservation, when you mentioned Neopit I remembered that my wife's grandmother, Stella McNutt, was born in Neopit. I dug deeper and found that they both were born the same year, 1908, in Neopit. My wife's grandmothers father worked at the sawmill and her grandmother was around 10 years old when they moved to Crandon. Makes you wonder if they went to the same school and if she remembered the family. Kinda wish I would have known all this before Stella Mc Nutt passed away. What a small World.

FL knew it would get devastation from Hurricane Helene, as did southern GA. But TN and NC were shockers.

I have some information on Dillinger after Little Bohemia and before he was killed in Chicago. The gang somehow got to Howard, WI. This is a suburb of Green Bay. At the time it was a tiny village not part of GB. Dillinger showed up and he thought he’d stay here for awhile to hide out. I live in this village and the street this occurred on is only a 1/4 mile from me. There was an old dance hall/hotel called Kutska’s. I went to dances there in the late 70’s. It was tore down a few years later. Dillinger tells the people here he just wants to hide out for awhile. He said we won’t hurt anyone. So they stayed at the hotel for a week. He gave Mr. Kutska a suitcase and told him not to open it.There was a small train depot on that street. Dillinger used this to get his guys in/out of the area. For a week he was able to walk down the street and no one bothered him. He was thrilled. He got wind that the feds were looking for him so he had to get out of here fast. He left the suitcase behind. Mr. Kutska didn’t want to touch the suitcase and figured Dillinger would have someone get it for him. After Dillinger was killed Mr. Kutska hung onto the suitcase for a couple years. Then, he decided to open it. There was $150,000 in the suitcase. Mr. Kutska shut it up for awhile thinking someone would come for the money. Eventually they remodeled the hotel and dance hall. No one ever came for the money. Everytime I drive that street I think about Dillinger.
